I keep thinking about that moment in the final minutes when Zion fell over trying to get a rebound, then Christen Cunningham slipped in that sweat spot and lost the ball, which fell right into Tre Jones’ hands under the basket for the easiest two points he’ll ever score. Just a stunning turn of events. I believe it’s time for us to consider that while we thought we might have paid a penance already for our hubris during the “Year of the...

Itís been pretty depressing to watch the absolute panic in the eyes of Louisvilleís guards down the stretch in the last two games. Almost innumerable turnovers in moments with the game on the line.

Duke will win this pretty solidly I think. It won't look like the FSU loss where Louisville turns it over a bunch and looks shoddy... Cards simply won't be able to keep pace.

I'm curious to know how much slack Louisville gets in retaining a top four regional seed. Can they lose the three remaining games against Duke and Virginia but win the other four games and hold on to that spot?

23 turnovers. That’s just insane. Can’t believe they were even in this thing.

I assume because crime reporting tends to draw viewers as well as be less labor-intensive and thus cheaper for stations to produce, but I've never been a news producer so I don't really know.

I'd love to agree with you, but I've never seen any local station in Louisville do any investigation that wasn't on the coattails of print media. WDRB has been at the front of things on occasion lately, but that's because they hired away all of the C-J's staff to write for their website. Local television news in Cincinnati has thus far proved to me to be pretty similar to Louisville: not a lot going on from day to day. They're good at...

*UPDATE* Nevermind, I quit. This research is too depressing. Looked up the country with the highest birth rate in recent years. It's a country in Northern Africa. Approximately 43% of children between the ages of 5 and 14 work at least part time. However, the data remains unreliable because of the large sectors of the population engaged in hereditary slavery and the practice of some young girls born into slavery being sold as "fifth wives"...

I'll need to do some research, but I would bet that the primary correlating factor to birth rates falling in the first world is widespread economic growth across all classes of people. I believe there are a number of studies that can back this up. I have some problems with some of the global poverty-reduction numbers floating around these days, but I believe the data in developed countries is pretty strong. In how many of the nations the...

The look of this field for the Seventh region tournament is in itself enough to make me wish I still lived in Louisville. It's going to be a doozy.

Gotcha. Yeah they dumped a lot of money into that last round and the result is impressive. And I agree with you that I can't imagine they skipped out on anything they could have possibly done to improve the sound inside the actual theater.

Its historical status makes too many renovations impossible. These days, things like lighting rigs would be hung from catwalks hanging over the stage. Music Hall's are directly recessed into the ceilings and walls in the old style and they're the weakest points for soundproofing.

Because it's a rule of life that this drama can never end, a report came out late yesterday that sounds from the stadium will interfere with rehearsals and performances inside Music Hall. One of the City Council committees met on it this morning. No idea what's going to come of it. As much money as FC Cincinnati has behind it, there's an insane amount of old, highly-connected money behind the Cincinnati Arts Alliance and all of Music Hall's...

This forces me to think about how ridiculous Louisville's schedule has been this season. Before the regular season ends, Louisville has played or will play 6 of the 8 teams currently appearing on the 1 and 2 lines as of the 2/5 update.

McMahon went crazy for 90 seconds and sealed the deal. Nwora and Sutton were really, really solid. That’s a recipe for success.

I find myself in the market for a new electric beard trimmer. I've been using the same trimmer for years but the thing's kaput. Anyone bought one recently?

To a certain extent, I get what Mack was trying to do. He was willing do give up some defensive rebounds in order to get guys back and prevent fast break points. Unfortunately, it just didn’t seem to work in huge chunks of this game, and all those offensive rebounds don’t result from that strategy, they result from just getting beat. It was like the opposite of the first game. UNC got to every 50/50 ball and made every clutch play.

Cards actually won the second half, but dug themselves a massive hole in a very poor first half. Gave up WAY too many offensive rebounds and gave UNC too many easy looks in the paint, something the Cards effectively shut down during the big win in Chapel Hill a few weeks ago. Time to buck up and get it together. Just over 48 hours until a trip to Blacksburg and the #12 Hokies.

How dominant is UConn? This year is only the third in the last 12 seasons that the Huskies have lost two regular season games.

Unless you're an absolute powerhouse of a program, firing a good coach to try and find a great one is a fool's errand. Wake has been a study in mediocrity since the day they showed him the door. They had some really good years under Dave Odom and Skip Prosser, but the fact that they fired a guy after making consecutive tournament appearances in his second and third years is still mind-boggling.

I came back to follow up my last post with this: even if Louisville takes their lumps and February is a disaster, the UNC and NC State wins are legitimately impressive. No chance at all last year's team wins those games.

I'm fully expecting them to lose at least three of them. If they can get a split, and win the games against UNC and Florida State, I'm going to be thrilled.

I have a feeling Louisville is going to need all of those 7 wins in the league standings. It’s time for the hard part... Louisville has only played two games against teams in the top half of the ACC standings and only have three games left against teams in the bottom half.

No, but if you told me they were, I’d have given you twenty to one that the loss would be at UNC and if given three guesses, would never have come up with Pitt.

I don't think Louisville will ultimately end up as a four. The February schedule is too brutal. They're going to take some lumps. Maybe a good ACC tournament can get them back there, but I ultimately see Louisville, playing at the level they are right now, ending up a 5 or 6. They take two of the four games they've got to start February -- UNC, at Va Tech, at Florida State, Duke -- and I'll revisit this. I still think they're losing three of...

Yeah it's a shame, and I've never lived there so don't know if the Enquirer used to have a halfway-decent NKY edition or not, but it would be great if they had the reporters available to do some work in Covington, Alexandria and Burlington.
