I haven't read much about this, but I remember seeing that Donald Glover was being tapped to play Lando Calrissian, which seems like inspired casting. He's awesome.

As others have said, he did have the money. He had plenty of it. That's the least mysterious part of this whole story.

Yes. Looks like Jones had it first but everyone's running with it now. Now that the investigation is over and the NCAA has published its findings, I don't see anything wrong with him writing to supporters. I actually believe him on this. I don't think he knew anything. That DOES NOT absolve him of responsibility. It's his job to know, the new NCAA rules are crystal clear on that. I'm still surprised that a longer suspension for him...

Hold on, the Republicans just won the Georgia 6th by their slimmest margin in at least 14 years and it's the Democrats that should be concerned? These are Republican strongholds in districts with representatives plucked by the Trump administration for federal jobs. You know what I'm taking from these races? That South Carolina and Georgia are still conservative. It's a real stunner.

A lot of the politics involved in BLM as a movement are centered on an idea in a lot of social science writing in the last 40-50 years that suggest that "racism" requires a political-power element. The idea is that there is a difference between racial bigotry or prejudice or whatever you'd like to call it and racism in itself, which requires a dominant racial identity (in this case, white) asserting itself over another (black) in a cultural,...

Agreed. I've been about to the end with using militaristic and violent analogies and terminology when discussing politics for a while now. It doesn't help and all it does is whip your most ardent supporters into a frenzy. It's why I've hated the "Resist" rhetoric from the left since the minute it started after November's election. It doesn't win votes, it just riles up all the folks that already agree with you. ...and it's way easier...

Perfect storm. It's a mess around here and nobody wants to look too hard because everyone has their hands in the cookie jar. It's easy to forget the log list of developers and businesses and politicians who pushed hard to get UofL the sweetheart deal they got to move into the Yum Center because those business and political interests really wanted the arena downtown despite Jurich wanting to build something on campus. Lots of different...

I don't know the NCAA rules well enough to say for sure, but I'd assume the appeal will regard the length of the retroactive suspensions of any involved player.

Hah! True enough, but not, I think, without cause here. The folks on the appeals committee are all lawyers, and none of them work for university athletic departments, I don't think. There's reason to believe that they'll be more receptive to Louisville's arguments regarding the appropriateness of the penalties levied by the infractions committee. When the 2013 banner literally hangs in the balance, I think the appeal is worth the effort.

Refusing to accept the evidence and wanting UofL to appeal are not the same thing. I believe the evidence and the official accounts of what happened. I also want Louisville to appeal because they'd be dumb not to.

Yeah, it's annoying. Some of the MLS-owned teams have dedicated themselves to winning games and generating a fan base for themselves but New York is completely uninterested. They have a massive youth academy and so a boatload of good players, but they could not care any less whether anyone shows up to watch them. At least Louisville looked really good. The switch to a 3-4-3 has really worked so far. In the last three games, Louisville's...

I agree, but if we ever did hire a Latin coach, I think I'd be really interested to see what Atletico Madrid's Diego Simeone could do with this crop of young American players as the USA coach after Arena is done. I think those specific attributes are really on display with Simeone's teams.

I'm sure there will be another leader, but the charisma and experience of a guy like al-Baghdadi are a big part of what allowed ISIS to be born from the ashes of al-Qaeda. Even if it proves to be a hydra, cutting off a head can still slow the beast down, especially when it's already bleeding as much as ISIS seems to be.

The chancellor of Germany from 1982 to 1998, he oversaw the end of the Cold War and the reunification of Germany. He was also, along with French President Francois Mitterrand, the architect of the Maastricht Treaty that created the European Union. His 16-year administration was the longest of any democratically-elected German leader and he was an instrumental force in shaping Europe and the world at large at the end of the Cold War and after...

How could you possibly be surprised? Sports is the last politically correct form of tribalism... apart from politics itself. And it's far and away the most common. An attack on one is an attack on all. Never let anyone outside the tribe see your warts, but if they do, run the outsiders off your territory. It's not anything new.

With Mexico sending almost all their best players to Russia for the Confederations Cup, this will be a chance to get out ahead of them and grab an early shot at the 2021 Confederations Cup by winning this tournament. I'd bet we see a lot of new faces in the group stage but a lot of the top regulars come the knockout stage.

Very worried we were sold a bill of goods on Smrt's expertise and influence. But the self-imposed postseason ban seems to have been a good idea as that definitely would have been part of these sanctions had it not been done then.

There is a special appeals committee made up of people that aren't on the Infractions Committee. They'll hear and decide the final appeal.
