My Dad was a HS football coach... an assistant at Lafayette HS, then the head coach at Boyle County, then Mercer County. I can remember picture day at Lafayette in 1968 (3 years old) & passing out equipment the first night at Boyle in 1969 (4 years old). My best times growing up were with my Dad, his players and coaches. I love kids and football. I'll coach as hard as I can til I run out of gas. Then, I'll spend Friday nights with family or...

I was proud of our effort and in spots we played some good football. When we did not, credit goes to the Rebels. They are a very good team. I really appreciate Coach Chuck Smith being complimentary of our team & kids in the media before and after the game. Legendary coach but even better man & friend. Good luck to the Rebels going forward. Our guys will build on the positives and the areas we need to improve.

Coaching at Paris HS, I got to know Coach Bill Arnspager, who I regard as the top defensive coach in the history of football.... DC for the only undefeated Super Bowl Champion... ever..... the Miami Dolphins and was Head Coach at LSU. Coach Arnsparger coached against and knew all the big time guys in the 60s and 70s.... Lombardi, Starr, Shula, Sayers, Jim Brown, Night Train Lane, Nitschke, Butkus, Bear Bryant, etc. Great football coach and...

Not crazy about it, but it might be necessary to field a JV team so that some other kids can get to play a game and to develop as a player. As numbers decrease, navigating frosh/JV football gets tougher. Even though at Mercer we have been fortunate to field frosh teams for 5 straight years, we have restructured to a freshman-sophomore team because so few of our opponents were able to field freshmen teams. It's tough. You want kids to play...

We are excited about the challenge. The Rebels have an outstanding program lead by one of the finest coaches in the history of KY HS Football. Both teams are 3-0. Alvis Johnson Stadium is a great place for HS football. We have new bleachers, lighting and an immaculate bermuda surface. There are no visitors bleachers so we also have a great setup for tailgating up and down the entire sideline. Hope to see a bunch of KY HS football fans in...

Normally, I am not a big fan of August games on turf at 5 pm on a Saturday. I am one of those traditionalists that love Friday nights and the short week makes it tougher for the following game. We partner with Boyle and do the bowl games on consecutive Saturday nights to raise significant funding for the athletic departments at both schools. Over the past five years though, I have begun to appreciate the Rebel Bowl. It gives me a chance...

The win over West Carter was hard fought. They played their guts out against us. 6-0 going into 4th. Very impressed with the job Daniel Barker is doing with the Comets.

We faced Coach Lucas’s Newport Teams at Mason County. Those were tough, hard-nosed, good football teams and players. The Lucas’s are a wonderful football family. God Bless them and thank you for sharing a great man and coach with all of us.

In the winter/spring of 2018, Boyle County had just won the state title with a sophomore dominated team. When I advertised on the listserve to get teams for our Bowl, ONE team responded wanting to play Boyle in the bowl. That team was Iroquois. At that time, no one had any idea the struggles they would face leading into the 2019 season. The staffs and administrations of all 3 schools have been in conversations and talks the last few months...

We WANTED Russell to be our rival because we had so much respect for them and they were so good. But, we had to win a few to make it a rivalry. Year round.... Russell drove much of what we did and we were always talking about ....FLATWOODS! Love that place. Love Ivan and those coaches there. Not sure it will ever happen, but would love to play in Flatwoods, October, cold, wind, rain, ONE MORE TIME. I am a big fan of Coach Maynard...
