  1. As a fellow Graves County fan, this is incredible. I have always thought it was odd that we would drive pretty much by other 5A schools not in our district only to drive another hour to get to a school within our district. I always wondered if KHSAA just didn't know how spread out things were this far west. Your numbers really put things into perspective, especially the point that the AI's farthest sister district game is the same distance as a current district game. This should be changed.
  2. Yes, same family, a Graves County family at that. From the circle I speak with about GC Football and high school football as a whole, is made up of Graves, Mayfield, and Paducah guys. All were in agreement that this is an excellent hire. It was an easy choice. Sometimes the easy choice is hard, glad the hiring committee didn’t over think it. He’s been Graves DC the last couple of years and the last couple of years that has been where the team has excelled.
  3. 2014 Cody Crider. Lead the state in rushing with a very minimum passing attacker that year. Teams played man and loaded the box and he still would get 1-200 yards a game. He then would turn around and play DE/OLB and recorded close to 100 tackles I believe. Took Graves to the State Championship after knocking off Bowling Green in the third round.
  4. I do not believe Coach Gregory has any interest in the job.
  5. From what I have gathered. Taking applications up until the end of this week and possibly even end of next week. I would imagine to give assistant coaches who coached in finals time to consider it. Will probably start interviews week before or after Christmas. I am not aware of anyone applying besides the one man in house I spoke of before.
  6. Hatchell would be a great hire! His dad was the second head coach in Graves County History. Here’s where that might keep Hatchell away. There were a group of parents, definitely a minority, that blindsided his dad with a meeting to run him off. They tried to do it in secret so the rest of us who were for him wouldn’t find out. He wasn’t scheduling the Fulton’s and ballards of the world to get a 8-2 record. He came to build a legit program and we struggled early playing legit teams. I hope Stephen understands the program was 10 years old at that time. Nobody had a clue what they were doing. We now have had three good coaches (Rogers, Gregory, and Kemp) build a total new culture and where mommas and daddies don’t run the show. (Yes I’m campaigning a little incase he sees this. I hope he applies haha) I also heard that an assistant on staff that has not been named plans on applying. I cannot confirm if true, so I don’t want to post it just yet. He is young, but highly respected among the program. I would not be disappointed at all if he got it.
  7. No, but definitely could have and changed the expectations of the program and proved it could be done. Also beat a Bowling Green team nobody else in Kentucky could while on the way. I’ll end this back and forth as it’s not what the topic is about, but the sell “won’t ever get a ring at Graves” died in 2014. I know you guys need that perspective over there.
  8. Graves can’t win it. Can’t win the whole thing, blah blah blah. Heard it since the school consolidated. That was proven wrong in 2014. Can’t use that narrative anymore.
  9. Graves County has never hired an alumnus for Head Coach. I’m not sure who the good ole boys are that anyone is referring too. The last 10 years has been the most consistent years in program history. Graves consistently has a top 10 program in 5A. I’d argue more like top 8. The issue is they have a tough time getting out of the first few rounds because they are always matched up against Owensboro, Bowling Green, or South Warren. They consistently beat everyone else besides those 3 and Mayfield. They usually split with Paducah. They even split games with Bullit East a few years ago. I've got my hopes on who I want to get it, but I will keep that to myself for now. The Cruce situation was a disaster. The issue for Graves is and always will be losing kids to Mayfield. I counted 6 kids starting on Mayfield who were once Graves kids the other night. (Those are just the kids I know) I do think integrating the elementary schools into one team has helped that. Kids are becoming eagles earlier and it’s harder to move on your friends when those relationships start younger. Not to mention, even though they are still losing kids, they are still competing and beating just about everyone except the cream of the crop in Kentucky.
  10. Mayfield hitting the big plays and Beechwood having to methodically get down the field.
  11. I got to thinking. Didn’t Cartwright start as a freshman and is now a 5th year senior? He may have played more high school games than any kid in Kentucky if that’s the case. Experience definitely matters and an extra year in high school is way different than an extra year in day 4th grade. However, everyone had a chance to do it, so nobody can really cry foul play.
  12. For your sake I hope you’re right, but I doubt it can be much more advance than Paducah. Paducah out “athleted” mayfield so maybe the concepts of the passing attack are more advance. Murray game was weird. They ran two hook and laterals successfully. I honestly think Mayfield might have spent next to no time preparing for Murray and spent their entire time preparing for LCA. That is purely speculation.
  13. Beechwood depends a lot on the pass and Mayfield has done an exceptional job stopping the pass. Maybe Murray the stats show more yards than they probably should due to hook and laterals. Paducah also threw a lot but Mayfield did cause some problems. We all know about the problems they caused last week against the number 1 qb in the state. They do struggle a bit against the run in games I have watched, but that’s not Beechwood’s strong suit. With all that being said I do think Beechwood puts up some points, but Mayfield will get stops. I’m not really seeing Beechwood getting many stops.
  14. Bad matchup for Beechwood based on film I have seen. I think Mayfield wins by 2-3 tds.
