  1. Yep. Local schools will have to get ready to defend a little Georgia Tech, Army, and Navy. Dunbar had a really good Freshman team this year. I believe Wes will do well at Dunbar. He knows how to coach kids up and compete when over matched athletically. He did that very well at West Jessamine from what I can tell. Hope Dunbar gives Wes a chance to build something at Dunbar because it will take time.
  2. I had breakfast with Wes this morning. Great friend and I am really happy for him! Randy Wood - main assistant who was with him at West Jessamine Jay Singleton Tyler Goble Alex Montgomery Maybe Jo Jo Kemp who just finished at UK last year.
  3. Game was actually close until very end. Scott County lead 14-0 at halftime. Henry Clay had the ball twice inside the 10 yard line with 1st and goal and came away empty both times. Give credit credit to Scott County defense, but sometimes, a QB has to get under center when at the 1 ft line instead of 5 yards back. Call me old school, but the play is quicker and running back is hitting the line with full steam. Henry Clay scored in 3rd to make it 14-7 and then it was 28-20 with about 6 minutes left in 4th quarter. Henry Clay threw an interception that lead to a score and the rest was history. Blue Devils gave good effort, but could not handle strength and offense of Scott County.
  4. Henry Clay has the athletes to pull off an upset, but they have to play a different defense to defend the Wing T. Coach Simpson is like 0-12 against Scott County in recent past. There is a business saying,"Your system is perfectly designed to produce the results you are getting". They must throw away the system which has been dreadful against Scott County and try something different. What do they have to Lose?
  5. I used the restroom at half time and heard a Southwestern fan saying Henry Clay is a pretty good 0-3 team. Henry Clay was right there with Ryle and Johnson Central in both games, but came up a bit short. You could see the improvement each game and the kids finally used that as motivation to get the win last night. Week off and then Lafayette.
  6. I can tell you what killed their offense. Giving your senior QB and offense a vote of no confidence on Monday after Friday scrimmage against Central Hardin. They changed the offense 4 days before the 1st game to a Wildcat option after you had practiced a different offense for 3 months and played really well in UK 7 on 7 passing tournament. Henry Clay had controlled scrimmage (10 plays on, 10 plays off - no score) against Central Hardin and neither varsity team scored. Both teams moved the ball, but neither put it in the end zone. I guess that freaked out the coaches? Coaching staff sat senior passing QB for running sophomore QB who had never started varsity game before. The results speak for themselves. Offense looked like it had prepared for 4 days. 92-0 against Tates Creek the past 2 years is simply unacceptable.
  7. Your post pretty much sums it up! I might understand last year, but not this year. There is a saying in business that say's, " Your system is perfectly designed to give you the results you are getting". Sometimes you must coach the kid's talent instead of forcing a system on them.
  8. Funny you say 11 in the box and dare Ryle to throw the ball. That is what I would do against Henry Clay as well. Tates Creek is 92-0 against Henry Clay the past 2 years bringing lots of pressure and daring Henry Clay to throw the ball. Ryle has had pretty good luck against Henry Clay past couple of years. Should be interesting to see which coaching staff makes best adjustments?
  9. 6A Henry Clay vs 6A Tates Creek 6A Lafayette vs 6A Bryan Station Any thoughts on these Lexington City openers?
  10. I don't know about Bryan Station, but I know they got 4 up and coming junior players from Henry Clay that would have either started or at least contributed to varsity play. They did not get the best players from Henry Clay nor any seniors. I just have not seen new schools do what they are predicting. Don't get me wrong, they have some talented kids, but will be very young as I believe the senior class is very small. I think they will be competitive, just see it taking more time to equal the success of Scott County, Lafayette, Henry Clay.
  11. I believe in confidence, but this article seems over the top. 2nd place in district? King of the Hill? Step up academic endeavors, really? Why would you want to anger your district rivals right off the bat. Let's see if they can back it up? I have my doubts?
  12. It is tough to gauge teams from 7 on 7. All I look at is from experience. Henry Clay was 1-4 last year at UK 7 on 7 and lost in 1st round after pool play. None of the games were even that close. This year they were 5-2 and got beat in the finals. That is improvement that was seen on Saturday. Hope it rolls into the regular season. Lafayette should be the favorite and have certainly earned that. You are correct, HC could not run or throw last year. I believe it comes down to the O-line play which so far has been much improved over last year. There are some kids that that have made huge strides with weight, conditioning, and in the weight room. Time will tell. It should be an interesting year in the city to see who comes out on top?
  13. Semifinals: Anderson, Ohio beat Lexington Catholic Lexington Henry Clay beat Fairfield, Ohio Finals: Anderson beat Henry Clay There were 20 teams total. Here are a couple of observations from what the teams I saw: For a 2A school, Owensboro Catholic looked really good. They lost in a close one to Lafayette (33-30) in 1st round after pool play. They have good size and some nice skill talent. I look for them to make some damage this year. After 2 consecutive 6A finals, Lafayette is down this year. Henry Clay beat them on the quarterfinals. You better get them now though because their freshman class last year was the bomb! They crushed everyone they played and had almost 50 players on the team. Frederick Douglas has a lot of speed and skilled receivers. Very fast and can catch the football. They are very small which might be a concern once contact starts. I have no clue what they have in the trenches, but getting players from 3 schools will help them be better than expected. We will have to wait for real football to see? FD lost to Fairfield Ohio in quarterfinals. I was not able to see much of Tates Creek, Bryan Station, LCA, or Lexington Catholic as they were in the stadium or inside. Henry Clay is going to surprise some people this year. For not being a passing team and only playing one 7 on 7 tournament this year, they got beat in the finals. They have 2 senior quarterbacks that can both play and manage the game. Their speed is ridiculous at skill position and on defense. O-line and D-line will be much improved over the past several years. If they can run the football (they could not last year) watch out for this team to be better than expected.
  14. Correction, it was Fairfield, Ohio not Fairview.
