  1. I think BG will always be top 5 in this class the team I would have to move out is Christian County. Losing a lot from last season with a 4 year starter at QB and a D1 defensive back who won 3-4 games himself on pick 6, scoop and scores, or a punt return for TD.
  2. Graves County/Mayfield would be a very tough football team to compete with and would be a very hostile crowd to play against on the road. Let's name them The GravField "Grave Diggers" "Where Seasons Come to Die!"
  3. I don't agree with this because what about teams who play in super competitive districts? If you look at 5A in the West there were some really good football teams that were all deserving to make the playoffs and who could have gone on a run to make noise. Now I do believe that 6 classes in KY is a joke we need to go back to 4 classes maybe even try 5 classes.
  4. They will never merge the two schools because of the history of Paducah Tilghman. It would create an amazing athletic dynamic in all sports but it would never happen. I believe that merging several schools across the state would help with taxes and allow for better school buildings and athletics. Think about if Graves County and Mayfield were to combine on the western end of the state as well. When there are several schools in 1 county the money gets divided up instead of combining it.
  5. Every school situation is completely different. I have seen places that want their players in the weight room every morning early and working so that it keeps the players from running around at all times of the night staying out of trouble. I have heard of other schools doing the opposite and being successful. But you will never convince me that kids can take June off with no weight room work or conditioning and roll in during July and not have injury problems and risk health concerns when conditioning. Not saying you need them there 5 days a week for 5 hours a day but a 90 minute lift with 1 hour on the field work 4 days a week will always benefit your team. It's not mandatory but your kids that aren't involved in other sports that don't show up until July tell me how they look the 1st 2 weeks of practice and how their bodies hold up coming down the stretch in November. Football is the most regulated sport in KY and we don't have the AAU 7 vs 7 leagues like other states do. Kids in basketball and baseball play games all year either for the school or for an AAU type team. Heck I coached a district game this season where the baseball team had a intersquad game with paid umpires that was still going on at kickoff. Football is not the reason why kids are over worked with all the regulations that are placed on practice. Coach your team how you want, practice them how you want, but the weight room is where games are won in the offseason and that's where I put my emphasis on players from January-July.
  6. Grave County has been wearing that eagle sticker for the last 3-4 years.
  7. What matters is having a system and a game plan that puts your team in the best shape to win ball games. It doesn't matter what type of offense you run as long as your staff knows how to coach it correctly. I do believe that teams who run a downhill, smash mouth type offense involving TE and fullbacks give high school teams and coaches trouble because you simply don't line up against it. I have also seen teams who are high profile wanna score 60 a game go up against less talented running team and loose because time of possession. I also have seen smash mouth teams loose ball games because they get down 14 and cannot score quick enough to win the game. If your gonna play ball control smash mouth football you better play defense as well. If you wanna score don't worry about it and try to get 3 stops a game. Kids care about what offense they play in but not as much as their mommy and daddy in the stands. This is what has become the problem because its about my kids stats more than being part of a team that is bigger than the individual. If your son has the ability to play at the next level I will promise a good football coach will get the ball in their hands as many times as humanly possible without having to put a oxygen mask on him during time outs.
  8. I would actually beg to differ. If a team has better athletes than you running a ball control offense keeps the other team from having the ball. If you can dominate the time of possession and have a solid defense you can give high powered offenses with great athletes fits. Look at Georgia Tech and Navy. They have adopted that philosophy and are able to beat teams with greater talent.
  9. If you are saying that struggling to beat the Metro schools means your program isn't growing then I guess a vast majority of 6A needs to find new coaches because teams outside of Louisville winning State Championships isn't exactly happening very often.
  10. I'm pretty sure playoff districts rotate in 6A and in the 2015-2016 season they made a Regional Championship appearance losing 7-3 to Central Hardin. So playoff games have been won at McCraken County. Yes the Metro schools are always waiting but there are opportunities to advance in the playoffs when the rotation is in your favor.
  11. What needs to happen is every school has the same fall break in the state and every team needs to have their bye week scheduled for the week of fall break. KHSAA needs to mandate that no practices can happen during fall break. These are 14-18 year old kids and coaches spend tons of time away from their families during the season and everybody needs time to recharge their batteries. It would be great if somehow fall break and bye week happened and teams were able to start district play right after that. Or have a non-district game after fall break then begin district play. There is no excuse for parents to schedule a vacation during fall break if the coach is clear on his policy. Many parents prove that they don't care about the team and only about themselves and their kids which is the reason why many good coaches don't coach anymore.
  12. I 100% believe McCraken Co is on the right track to building a successful 6A program. Yes facilities don't win you ball games but they sure don't hurt you when trying to get the best players in the school building to come out to play. This is a team that lost to an absolute power house in PA Academy and lost to one of the best ran programs in the state in Mayfield and even looking at the loss to Mayfield McCraken was out scored 25-0 in the 1st quarter and then outscored Mayfield 41-20 for the next 3 quarters to lose the game 45-41. If McCracken didn't play so poorly in the 1st quarter that outcome could have been very different. I can't understand how a team looses a couple games to quality opponents and all the sudden they are not building a program correctly? It takes time to build a program especially when talking about competing with 6A schools in Louisville.
