12th Region JV Tournament Results
onebadmanisme replied to KYgentleman's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
Sorry, but these tournaments just don't mean too much. I think players are allowed to play on JV through their junior seasons. Obviously, the better ones don't, most playing meaningful varsity minutes as freshmen or at least as sophomores. If it were truly a sophomore and below tournament, and all regional teams played all of their soon and below kids, then it would be more representative of a team's future. But, they don't. It's apples for one team playing oranges for the other team. -

When was the last time that the 12th chose co players of the year? Other regions seem to do it frequently. Doesn't seem like the 12th does. -

You said "true" point guards. I've not seen the other 2 play but that's not a label I would use to describe Young. He definitely has a shoot-first mentality which to me isn't a "true" point guard. I don't say that in a derogatory way about him as he's a very good player. If he had the luxury of playing with a true point guard, he'd be a really nice SG. Anyone know if he'll be playing in college? I think he's good enough to play somewhere. -

Anyone that doesn't think he's at least top 3 is just plain silly. Kid is special. -
Corbin 72 Harlan County 54

Taylor is awesome. Love the way he plays and the conducts himself. Love what I've heard about his academics as well. But I'm not sure I'd call him the best in that class. He's certainly in the top 3-5. -

Calling him a PG isn't really a fair description, at least not in the traditional sense! He's simply their best ball handler and scorer. But I agree with you about how good he is. I said before that he is the best offensive player in the region. And I'm talking about as a high school player, not talking about college potentual. This team is really fun to watch. Small, quick, scrappy and can shoot the ball. -

So Fraleyy is playing PG. That knocks (senior) Landon Powell out of that spot. Obviously, Sylvester, Butt and Fitzgerald are starting. Who is the 5th starter? Is Powell even starting? -

Southwestern lost 2 players to Pulaski over the summer. Many thought that would be their death of that team. They will have much better chemistry this year and, if they're hitting that night, can definitely beat Pulaski. They are so small and elusive which allows them to get their shots off. And there's not a better perimeter shooting team in the state. I've followed the 12th closely over the last several years. In my opinion, Gover is the best offensive player in the region this year. And he is in the running for best overall player. He's that good of a high school basketball player. -
It's more about timing than anything. Hawkins and Willis type offers will likely only come when there is an extra scholarship hanging out there for the Cats. And if it happens, those kids have to be ok with limited roles. Maybe Kentucky produces a legit Cal-caliber kid once per decade, and that's just maybe.

Cats Pause 12th Region rankings
onebadmanisme replied to PurplePride92's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
Agree. Smith is a top 5 player. I think Faulkner and Fitzgerald are the top 2 regardless of which one you put first. After that, I think Gover then Smith. Sylvester, Gentry and Young after that. The team ratings are a little surprising. Can anyone tell me who did and didn't stay at Southwest? I don't know. Leaving them out for the moment, considering how teams finished the year and who these teams return, how could the coaches not have voted for Casey and Rock in the top 5? Pulaski is the clear favorite. Assuming Southwest retained enough, that'd be my top 4 teams. After that, I'd probably have Lincoln, West and Mercer on the outside looking in. Possibly Boyle.
