  1. OC should be returning a strong group and will be among the better teams in Region. South was following their script with Devin Young being the spotlight player with Luke Morrison and Sm Beard moving into starting roles. I hear they are losing Peyton Hicks to a family move out of state that will hurt them. Unless some of the JV from last year make large improvements over the summer it could be a long year for South
  2. We played on HLB AAU a few years back with Feltner, Pittman, Allison from CAL, Howard from Fern Creek, Brown from Male, Johnson from North Bullitt and a guy from St X. Feltner and Pittman good players and good kids. They had a good coach named Dale Easley.
  3. South will follow the blue print Simpson has been using - graduate a majority of you playing time and bring in the next senior class. Next year he will have Young back to be the nucleus with Hicks, Beard, Vincent, Hubrich, Mickel as Seniors. Morrison will be a Sophomore. Expect a few Juniors off JV team and he usually brings one Freshman up. I think it will be Beard, Hicks, Morrison, Young and one more to round out the starting 5. Except for Beard they will be between 6'2" and 6' 5" and will shot the three well. Will be chasing OC in 29th next year.
  4. Think the AC South game may come down to defense. Can AC control the three shooters from South and provide some help defense on Griffin getting to the paint. I am not sure who AC will put on Griffin if they go man but probably not Penny or he will be in foul trouble early. If they go zone they will have to extend to prevent open looks. For South they will have some of the same issues - if they go man who matches with Penny and if they go zone to help with the inside threat does that open up the outside shooting for Pittman and others. Big unknown is how physical will the refs allow the game to be. If they let them play then advantage goes to AC and a close called game will put Penny in fouls trouble and keep Gritton in check on the boards - better for South. I am looking for Young to have a big night for South
  5. I have not been around long enough to have the full picture but it seems like they are running into teams that play a great game against them. Maybe the other teams are better mentally prepared. With the talent that OC seems to have year after year something needs to change in their mental preparation for the Regional. I felt Collins had the inside game to take it to OC and sounds like they did. Congrats to Collins and to OC on another really good year.
  6. Collins may have a chip on their shoulder after losing the district at home. If Feltner can get on track early the size inside can match up well and they (Cochrane and co)are better scorers than Henderson and Larrimore. Agree if OC gets by Collins match ups and scheduling put them in the best position. Would like to see South and AC square off again after last year. With AC playing better and South not shooting great right now it would be a evenly matched game. Assuming South gets by WV. OC the favorite but we all know what happened last year to Owen. Lets hope top players step up to the challenge and the crowd energy an match last years.
  7. OC controlled this game from the start. They were more physical and a step quicker than South all night. South could not hit much the firs half which forced Griffin to ty and put it all on his shoulders and at times he tried to do to much on his own. Without the three shots falling OC was able to sag help back into the paint to stop Griffin from driving. Heelan it some big early threes for OC and Gibson controlled the tempo. The quickness of OC took advantage of some lazy passes from South and the turn overs started to grow. South made a run in the fourth with Young finally getting a couple of threes to drop which sparked a short spree but they could not keep it going. I would have liked to see them run Young off a few more screens to get him looks because if he gets his stroke going he can quickly light the score board up. OC had really good ball movement most of the time. They may not be tall but have enough mass with Henderson and Larrimore to have an inside presence and they attack the seems to get some nice easy baskets. It will take a strong effort by another 8th team to keep OC out of Rupp. South will need to get their three game going if they want a rematch on 7 March. Great crowd and energy made it a fun game to watch. Good luck to both next week.
  8. Looking forward to the rematch between OC and South. OC won by 6 on their court earlier. Griffin was sick so it will be fun to see how it plays out. OC playing really good ball right now and will have home court advantage. With Griffin driving the lane and Young getting into a groove from outside it will be another close game. If not mistaken I think the three times South as won the 8th they did not win the District.
  9. With Collins healthy and the lose call last time they met I do not think this one will be close. Collins will make a statement at home.
  10. Penney and crew are tournament tested after last years run to the regional finals. If it is close going into 4th quarter that experience and the youth of Spencer may give the edge to Anderson. Very tough first round game with a good team going home early.
  11. Glad to see Jacob Feltner back playing. He is a good kid and a heck of a spot up three shooter. Give him time and he will drop in some big numbers. Teams may want to run Collins to see what shape the returning players are in maybe the only way to get them off their game now that all the pieces are back. Should be another good district tournament to watch.
  12. North is peaking at the right time. I believe they have won twelve of their last thirteen. I would not think it would be an upset next week if they take down South in first round of 29th Tourney especially on neutral court. Should be a great game and matchup between Griffin and Henry.
  13. I am sure Simpson was not pleased with the first quarter but South lives and dies by the three. Good to see Beyerle with a good game, he has not been a big scoring threat so far this year. This is what makes South a dangerous team when you know that you will get steady performance from Griffin but then you have Young and Franklin who can drop 40 on any night and throw in Hoover and Beyerle who can hit from the outside and you have a defensive problem. Morrison and Hicks are contributing and will be leading the way next year. The first round game with North at OC will be a challenging task for one team to get to the Region
  14. Final score from Crestwood South 74 Owen Co 51. Good thing that South did not shoot the ball well or it could have gotten out of control early/ Owen had difficulty with South pressure which lead to several easy points. Looked like Young must have some nose injury - he was wearing a facemask which seemed to effect his play. Griffin continues to shine for South. He does not get off the court much so South needs to find some quality minutes from Beard going into tournament time to keep Joe fresher in 4th quarter. Beard may be the replacement for Franklin next year as the #2 and 3-point shooter instead of the point. Monday against WV should be a fun game.
  15. I think lots of head coaches can be difficult but with Saban it is hard to argue with his success and his coaching staffs success in moving to bigger positions - just look around the SEC. He has always ben about the process and how each piece needs to do its part for the whole to be successful. A rested Bama D is unbelievable but we saw that they are human and got tired towards the end of the game and without the offense being able to control the clock and give the D rest they could not contain Clemson. Stretching the limits of the process is one thing but you have to understand your core strengths which may have not been followed well by Sark. Someone who thinks like Kyle Shanahan would be nice - run and pass
