  1. If it was single elimination, McCracken would have never even got a second chance. If you lose a game, life is going to be hard. Don't want to play four games in one day? Don't lose.
  2. Where I've been, officials on the field keep time but inform the press box whenever their time is different than the scoreboard time during a stoppage of play. In my opinion, that's how it should be. Both should keep time.
  3. I'm against spring football like I'm against summer basketball and fall baseball. The kids need a break from those particular sports. For football players - winter and spring should be a time of rest or a chance to play another sport. For basketball players - spring and summer should be a time of rest or a chance to play another sport. For baseball players - late summer, fall and early winter should a time of rest or a chance to play another sport. When I say rest, let the kids be kids. Let them go play pickup basketball, grab a whiffle bat and play whiffle ball, go swimming, go bike riding, and if they want, let them play video games. Mid July approaches in a hurry for football players as does mid October for basketball and mid February for baseball. I'm not a fan of the AAU culture or the spring football culture. The players today aren't any better than 50 years ago. And, those guys didn't have spring football or the AAU circuit.
  4. I think the only way baseball is changed is if it's changed to a double elimination like softball. Don't be surprised if the state tournament would have to be moved to high schools sites so that two games can be played at a time and those who lose might have to play two games in one day. Districts and regionals won't be changed to double elimination unless the KHSAA were to allow softball to go that route.
  5. Holy Cross won Sixth Region and Male won Seventh Region tonight.
  6. This district likes to hand out participation trophies. The best team should get to play the worst team in the district semifinals. An 0-10 baseball team should be playing the best team in the first round of the district tournament. That's their punishment for not winning a game. A blind draw is plain dumb. Anybody who supports a blind draw has no argument other than that they like participation trophies. If you want to play in the regional tournament, start winning in the regular season.
  7. But, does EKU want to host? Is there a sponsor that can cover the cost for the KHSAA? Wherever the KHSAA can get the best deal is where the finals are going to be. It's just like any normal family, you aren't going to pay 100 bucks for the exact same meal when you can get it for 50 bucks. EKU and WKU both have nice facilities. It's where the KHSAA can get the most bang for their buck.
  8. Look, money talks. The KHSAA is an organization and has bills to pay. If the KHSAA goes under, the kids lose. If the KHSAA keeps the football title game in Bowling Green forever, 99 percent of the people win, the whiners and it's all about me, me people lose. Looking at the state championship sites, most are either in Louisville or Lexington. That's where most of y'all want the football state title to be played. Golf: Bowling Green Field Hockey: Louisville Soccer: Lexington Cross Country: Lexington Volleyball: Louisville Swimming: Louisville Boys Basketball: Lexington Girls Basketball: NKY-Cincy area Archery: Lexington Bowling: Lexington Bass Fishing: Marshall County (Far WKY) Tennis: Lexington Track and Field: Lexington Baseball: Lexington Softball: Owensboro Fact is, if Murray State had put in the best bid, that's where the football state titles would be. If the Univeristy of Pikeville had put in the best best bid. that's where they would be. It's not because the KHSAA hates y'all. EKU might not want to host because of the D I-AA Playoffs. UK might not want to host because it's too much work and they don't get enough benefits from having the event. U of L might not want to host because of the same reasons UK has. Murray State might not want to host because their facilities aren't the best and perhaps miraculously one day they'll host a D I-AA Playoff game. Not sure why Morehead wouldn't put in a bid. But I'm sure they have their reasons. Hosting the state football championships isn't as easy as we think they are because the University is gong to want to use it as a recruiting tool. At the end of the day, the people who care, will attend the state title game. I'm sure Junior's parents out of Belfry would travel seven hours to see him play for a championship if they were in Murray. I'm sure sure Junior's parents out of Paducah would travel seven hours to see him play for a championship if they were in Pikeville. Location is the least of the KHSAA worries. Somebody will get screwed.
  9. This shocks me the KHSAA still doesn't mandate seeding. A team that goes 0-3 or 0-6 in their district deserves to play the team that went 3-0 or 6-0 in their district in the first round. If you want to play in regionals, figure out how to field a winning team. St. Patrick and Augusta fans are saying the Philadelphia 76ers deserve a draw to be in the NBA Playoffs. They're saying the Atlanta Braves deserve a draw to be in the MLB Playoffs. They're saying Boston College's basketball team deserves a draw to be in the NCAA Tournament. They're saying Kentucky deserves a draw to be in the new NCAA Football Playoffs. You always have the All "A" Classic if you're a small school, quit whining and man up, and figure out a way to win. If I'm the Bracken County and Mason County athletic directors, I'm going to petition to the KHSAA and ask for them to take a vote on mandating seeding in all districts throughout the state and splitting the postseason payment to every school in the district and regional regardless of who wins or not. I realize some of the smaller schools need money to play sports. That would eliminate that problem. But fact is the winners deserve an easier road to a title and the losers should be punished by having to play the best early come tournament time. If you want to play in regionals, figure out a way to field a winning team and that starts at the youth level trying to find parents who are willing to teach kids how to play baseball, basketball, soccer, softball, and etc. If the community doesn't want to take the time, then don't expect to garner the joy of playing in regionals.
  10. So, we're penalizing her for being on a bad team? Good players on bad teams are going to take a lot of shots because that's how you win ball games on not so great teams. The fact that she took so many shots and still shot a high percentage is remarkable. She's getting penalized for being on a bad team. I almost assure you if she averaged 30 points per game and 14 rebounds for Perry County Central, Knott County Central, or Letcher County, that she would be on the BGP team and we wouldn't be siting here having this conversation. But, here we are, where Creech scores 5,000 career points, and averaged an astonishing 50 points per game as senior, yet that's not good enough because she was on a bad Jenkins team. I don't know if I'd blame the AAU circuit for this, but it's a shame that Creech isn't getting the respect she deserves. What she did this past season will probably never happen again, that right there makes her worthy of being on the BGP team. This was a historic season.
  11. I've lurked for years, but I finally had to say something. Leaving Whitney Creech off this list proves that making the BGP Team isn't that big of a deal. The team isn't credible leaving Creech off. It's just not. I don't care if she played poor competition, 50 points per game is 50 points per game. Come knock at my door the next time that happens, I might be dead by then. She should have been the second player on this list behind Erin Boley. No ifs and buts about it. I bet half of those players wouldn't have averaged 50 points per game if they had played for Jenkins this season. Jenkins would have been lucky to have won two games this season without Creech. And, Creech didn't just take a 1,000 shots and make only 30 percent, she shot 56.1 percent while taking 1,102 shots. That's impressive. Then, you can add in the fact that she averaged 14 rebounds per game while she's only 5-foot-8. Leaving her off the list is a JOKE. You're punishing her for being from Jenkins. That's not her fault. Think about it this way, would you not name Pete Maravich (averaged 40 plus points per game in each of his four seasons) an All-American even though LSU never made the NCAA Tournament while he was there? He was named an All-American three times and Player of the Year by many publications his senior year. Yet, Creech doesn't get named to the BGP team because she didn't play for a great team and isn't going to a high caliber D-I school. She may not be the most talented, she may have done it the old fashioned way, but she made her team 400 percent better. For me, if you average 30+ points and 10+ rebounds per game and lead your team to a regional final, I don't care if you're going to an NAIA school, you deserve to be on a list as one of the 10 best players in the state regardless if you're a freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior. I've said my peace and now I'm going to go back under my rock and lurk.
