  1. LC played well defensively against St X and almost stole a win as LC was leading 28-26 with 6 minutes left in the game. With that said, JC OL is a notch above St X and LC will have to outscore JC if it expects to win. Offensively, I think LC will put some points on the board. LC 38 JC 34
  2. Why is a Catholic school practicing on Sundays ? I graduated from a Catholic High School and there was a practice scheduled for a Sunday morning. (Thursday game). As practice was starting, the President of the school, a Catholic priest, walked over to the head coach said a few words and walked away; There was no practice that day. The Coach was let go at the end of the year. As a 17 yr old, I did not understand the significance of that brief exchange between the Priest and the Coach. Today, however, I realize the impact that one Sunday morning had I how I live my life. Seems to me that the leadership at Covington Catholic would benefit from a "brief conversation" between Priest and Coach regarding priorities and what it means to be "Keep Holy the Sabbath". .
  3. I am sure he is a very good QB, but St X staff must feel that Ritter gives St X a better chance to win or he would not be the #1 QB. No disrespect intended, but there is an advantage for LC to play against the #2 QB as opposed to the # 1 QB. Not saying that there is enough of an advantage gained such that LC steals a win, but perhaps enough of an advantage to keep the score close for the 1st half.
  4. St X has to be the favorite to win this game. The fact that St X quarterback is not available and that this is the 1st game of the year for St X may keep LC in this game for the 1st half. In the end, LC plays this game to better prepare themselves for district play and the playoffs.
  5. From the LC side of the field, I saw a different game. 1st quarter, neither team played well and I attribute that it being the 1st game for both teams; lots of nervous energy and getting acclimated to the speed of the game. In the 2nd quarter, the LC offense managed to put up 14 pts in the 2nd Qtr and missed a filed goal. Boone County also scored twice in the 2nd Qtr; one of the scores was on a kick off return immediately following LC'S initial touchdown. I do not think anyone expected the game to be 14-12 at half time but it was evident that BC was much better than in the prior year and that LC needed to play better if they expected to win. In the 2nd half, I thought Catholic came out and began to execute much better and that may have been attributable to the fact that Boone County began to tire while Catholic was also able to continue to rotate its players throughout the game. In the 2nd half, it never felt as if LC was not in control of the game. Boone County has a couple of really good running backs, but the offense is one dimensional. Defensively, the front 7 is good but lacks depth. Not having their kicker (soccer player) at the game put Boone County at a distinct disadvantage. Boone County is a much better team than last year and I expect that they will win 3 or 4 games. Catholic has 11 underclassmen who are expected to contribute; as the season progresses the team will play with more confidence. The talent is definitely there to make another run at the State Championship.
  6. My understanding is that EKU has limited spots for its team camp which is scheduled to begin on July 26. Does anyone know why there are fewer spots and consequently where your team maybe camping.
  7. My father coached high school football for almost 40 yrs. He had a coach on the 8th grade level who refused to run the same offense as the varsity; would take his biggest kid and play him at running back; play the best 15-16 kids and the other 20 -25 kids would never see the field. That coach's only goal was winning. Developing kids; keeping as many as possible in the program were not important to him. I never played for my Dad, but my class was undefeated both as freshmen and sophomores. He would always tell me that not having lost was great, but the only thing that really matters is what your class does on the varsity level. I currently have one child playing middle school football and the other will be a senior. I have found that the middle school parents are much more delusional re: skill level of the their child and the middle school coaches are more concerned with winning and have lost sight of the fact that their goal should be to develop kids and keep as many interested in football as possible. Fair to say that not much has changed over time.
  8. AMEN !! The emphasis placed on athletics by SOME parents borderline NUTS! In today's world, if Johnny can't hit a baseball the parents hire a hitting instructor. But if Johnny struggles in math, the attitude is generally "Johnny just is not at good at math" but getting a tutor to help Johnny is never considered. News Flash: Johnny / Jane may never pay a varsity sport in HS; Odds are slim to none that Johnny / Jane receive any sort of scholarship to play at the collegiate level At the same time, Johnny / Jane will need to be able to read, write and have math skills to be successful in life. IMO SOME adults need to take a step back and determine if they are doing their best to ensure their child has the skills to be successful in life and less concerned how fast Johnny / Jane can run.
  9. Have to imagine that the offer is non-committable at this point.
  10. Based upon the responses to the original post, there are no programswithin the Commonwealth with obstacles to overcome. :isurrender:
  11. I think the 4 losses are irrelevant and would be similar to getting an incomplete on a Science Lab assignment. The purpose of those Lab assignments is to make you better prepared for the State Science Fair If you make it to the State Science Fair and lose, so be it. The point is you were one of 2 individuals in the entire state who qualified for the Finals. The fact that the winner of the science fair was a junior NASA scientist and their project was clearly deserving to win, does not lessen your accomplishment. JMO
  12. IMO, the attorney took this case as a matter of publicity. He ambition is to secure justice but rather he has an agenda and took this case for that reason.
  13. Again, with all due respect, you do not know what measures were taken by Catholic so as to accommodate the family and bring this to resolution. Is it possible over the course of time the family turned a deaf ear with respect to LC's attempt to collect at least partial payment ? Something to think about.
  14. As a parent of children who have attended LC, I can tell you that each financial situation is addressed on a case by base basis. had been diagnosed with cancer and was on long term disability. Making the tuition payment was difficult. The school worked with us so that my son's education was not effected. For that I am eternally grateful. As far as the clause re: no payment / no transcripts. The clause is necessary as a general rule. Otherwise, it would be too easy for the entire senior class to "forget" to pay that final installment. In terms of the current situation, a couple of thoughts: The original story is poorly written in that it is simply reporting the allegations of one person. The perspective of the original reporting source, must be considered. As I find it difficult to believe that a legitimate news agency would have the language "Our News / Our Way" as part of its Heading / Title (For example, "The Hrald News- Our News/ Our Way" I do not believe there was ever a $4,000 bill issued to the family. The billing as it has been made available y the family was for $337.00. I would have to assume that this was for unpaid tuition and fees while the child was a student at LC. The comment has been made that perhaps this was banter between teammates. I would give that some credence. As I can tell you the exchange was not one sided and not even initiated by the older student. If the younger student truly felt threatened, I would expect that he would have confided in other players, coaches teachers - his own family. Remember this exchange was uncovered by the Mom as she looked through his text messages. Perhaps this is why administration felt an in school suspension was appropriate. I can also tell you there were other measures taken by the school from a spiritual perspective the that older student had to fulfill. The pictures of the truck with the confederate flag is not the truck of the student. It was taken on a filed trip to Tennessee and the student actually made a comment beneath the picture "What type of neanderthal would drive around with this hanging on his truck" One more thought, if Coach Perry initiated contact with the Uncle as stated, but the 2 had never met-where / how did he obtain the contact information. How would he know that the family was even interested in attending LC. Could it be that the family reached out to Coach Perry ? There is so much that I find hard to believe about this aspect of the story. To date, only one side of the story has been told- and to some extent perhaps not in the context in which it actually occurred. Regardless, the damage has been done to the reputation of the school, its student body and administration. Very unfortunate.
