  1. Nice win for SHA! I am surprised the game was a 5 point game given Manual's poor shooting (FG% - 39%, 3PT FG% - 23%, FT% - 53%). How did Manual keep the game close?
  2. Crystal Kelly should be on the list. Three state championships at SHA and KY Miss Basketball, all time leading scorer and rebounder at WKU and WNBA career. She had success at every level.
  3. Th 6th and 7th Regions will be loaded again. While Butler will be the favorite, Bullitt East will be very talented and Mercy will continue to be a tough out. The 7th region may be led by Male but Manual and SHA will not give in easily. Male and Manual both lose high profile centers and have capable replacements. SHA returns 9 of their top 10 players. Eastern will continue to be a challenger in the region. I would anticipate several of these teams to be Top 10 to start the year.
  4. With the underlying theme that anything can happen in high school basketball, a couple of themes do emerge from the matchups. * Hard to believe that Male is going to lose until they are beaten by someone other than Butler. With that said, Sacred Heart is capable of being that other team to beat Male. These two teams did not meet in the regular season. * Eastern and Manual feels like a pickem game. Manual won the regular season game by 4. * Mercy is a clear favorite with the two teams meeting for the first time this year. Clearly got the best draw in the 6th Region only having to play either Butler or BE in the final. * Butler defeat BE way back in March by 20 points. That was along time ago and BE now has Duvall playing again. I believe Butler will prevail, but no surprise if BE finds a way to win.
  5. If you want to see quality girls basketball today, come out to Valley High School. The girls 6th and 7th region has a number of heavy weights squaring off as part of a 4 game pack. Game 1 (3:30) Sacred Heart #10 Vs Male #2 Game 2 (5:00) Eastern #11 Vs Manual #8 Game 3 (6:30) PRP Vs Mercy #5 Game 4 (8:15) Bullitt East #16 Vs Butler #1 Whoever ultimately survives these two regions will have earned their championship. Several really good teams will be disappointed today and Saturday as they are eliminated from State competition.
  6. My observations from day 2. I was not surprised that Mercy won, but the margin was impressive. Mercy had the three ball going and dominated the boards. Eastern was never really in the game in the second half. It will be interesting to see how much of this will carryover into the Etown game. No surprise with Male or Butler. Both teams were noticeably better than their opponent and both controlled the game from the onset. Butler impressive in Q1 in jumping to a 31-13 lead. You got to respect a favorite that takes care of business early. The game of the day was Manual Vs Sacred Heart. Both teams slugged it out for 32 minutes with Manual making one more play in the end. McCune was impressive finishing down low. If she didn't finish, she often got her rebound and was fouled. Solid from the line all night. Curry had two big offensive rebounds late in the game that led to 4 points. While rebounding was an issue for SH (32 Vs 40), as they review the film, there were multiple lost opportunities (often unforced errors) during the game that will leave them shaking their heads. SH could have been the winner tonight and in the end Manual made one more winning play.
  7. Games yesterday held to form and for the most part were uninteresting with the exception of the CAL/North Bullitt game . I am planning on attending today as the games should be more exciting. Two Top 15 match ups with Eastern/Mercy and Manual/Sacred Heart. Both are rematches from games played earlier in the season.
  8. Based on the LIT tournament that was released yesterday there appears to be Winners and Losers in the draw. Initial thoughts: http://http://usatodayhss.com/2016/pairings-set-for-girls-lit-at-bellarmine-cal Winners 1 Butler - Will avoid any ranked teams until the Semis 2 Ranked teams that will avoid Etown until the finals - Butler, Mercer Co, Manual and Sacred Heart Losers 1 Assumption and Central - Will need to win 5 games in 5 days; all against teams ranked in the Top 15. Realize a long shot, but what a feat if it happened. Tougher draw than a team would get in the Sweet 16 this year 2 Mercy and Sacred Heart - Despite being in the Top 15 will not receive a bye and will play 5 games in 5 days to win tournament 3 Eastern/Mercy and Manual/Sacred Heart - Likely will need to beat four Top 15 teams to win the tournament While the tournament will feature a number of top match ups, based on the current LIT pairings, it sets up nicely for Butler, Etown and Male to make it to the semis. The fourth semi participant is a toss up between Mercer Co, Manual and Sacred Heart.

  10. The top 11 teams from the BGP poll and Cantrell's poll are the same, just slightly different orders. Focusing on those teams as of today, the themes that resonate with me: 1) Etown continues to be a favorite 2) 6/7 Regions will be a major factor if Etown slips 3) Wide open to rest of the state if 1 and 2 prove erroneous BTW 7 of the top 11 teams currently will be participating in the LIT in a few weeks. The LIT should provide significant insight to each of the teams ability to play against multiple quality opponents.
  11. After watching the Mercer County Tournament, I believe Berger is a top player in the state. Still watching to determine the last two. Boley - Etown Penn - Butler Berger - Sacred Heart
  12. Terrific final game in the Mercer County Tournament last night. I came away impressed by both teams. Big plays made by multiple girls from both teams all night. Houston (MC) did a fabulous job getting to the rim and finishing. Her speed challenged SH most of the evening. Souder (MC) did a nice job getting her points within the offense and on put backs. Robins (MC) who is a talented player had an off night. Likely the result of a lot of games over the last 12 days and the defense played by Sivils (SH). Sivils has the ability to frustrate good offensive players. After four days of watching a lot of basketball at Mercer Co, the best player on the court for the four days was Berger (SH). Berger was well deserving of the MVP. Last night Berger and Samsuel (SH) had quality offensive performances with 21 points each. Much of that was setup by Harris (SH) dropping 8 dimes. I look forward to seeing both of these team compete in the upcoming LIT in January.
  13. SH played solid defense most of the night. I was impressed with McClendon's (HCC) ability to drive to the basket. While SH shooting in the Mercer tournament has been off, Berger has stepped up to make big plays and team defense has allowed SH to keep winning. It should be a quality final game tonight against Mercer Co.
