  1. I think I mentioned that Flaherty may cause some issues for the Cardinal defense. Tough and talented kid!
  2. Beechwood has an OUTSTANDING team that were they playing anyone besides my alma mater, I would have been cheering for them. Classy bunch. I'm glad to follow them to Lexington to try to break the curse there... Mayfield has never won there. Oh, I'm on board with Red Helmet Video, too. They are bringing 80's - 90's wrestlers to high school football commentary! Love it!
  3. The difference in last week's game with O Cath was Mayfield's DEFENSE. I prognosticate based on what I see and the Mayfield D has been the difference all year. Say what you want about running backs, 2 QB's, receivers... The difference is D for the Cards. 38.3 points per game was OC's average on offense going into last Friday's game and big red held them to 7. The Aces had a bit over 100 yards passing and were below zero on their running game... for the game. What was the Williams kid averaging? Anyway, I know CAL is a different animal but it's still an animal. Our team just has to cut off it's oxygen. Safe travels to all involved. Mayfield by 20.
  4. To clarify, Mayfield lost in 09 and 11 but won 10 and then 12 through 15 before losing to CAL in the playoffs last year. It didn't end. It continues and will for many years to come. Not saying the Cards are unbeatable but I've been here watching for years and the talent keeps coming. Many current players are kids to former players and the coaches seem to like it here. All but one of our classes dominated all the way back to 3rd grade this year. 2A is a challenge and will provide very spirited competition over the years.
  5. Cards D is looking great but one pass play for OC had made it a game. Big Red needs adjustments to red zone offense. OC made adjustments now it's time for the Cardinals to paplay y their game and SCORE
  6. Maybe they didn't hit the ground but they were run into. I asked my daughter to make sure I was remembering correctly and she confirmed. The players were coming onto the field from the locker rooms and the GC cheer squad was standing where their coach was told to place them by CC coaching. Also, they were not on CC's "side" they were toward the endzone and closer to the GC side. It was blatantly disrespectful. OK I'm done with this topic.
  7. Let me re-phrase: It LOOKED really bad on CC at the end of / after the game.
  8. All I know is what I see. I'm not a coach or a police officer. I'm a Dad: my daughter is a varsity Graves cheerleader (I graduated from Mayfield and generally comment on the Cardinals). Best I can tell (again, from the stands) this started last year at Stadium of Champions when the Eagles visited the Colonels. GC cheerleaders had formed a corridor for their boys to run through as they enter the field from the endzone to the right of the visitor's side. The CC guys came across the field early and deliberately ran through the lines of GC cheerleaders and I believe some were knocked down. Well, I think that was not forgotten when this year some students / players from GC waved their flag at the CC team before the game. I also saw a good goal-line stance by the CC boys (did GC score????) and after the end of the game the CC players (more than 2) threw off their helmets and ran straight to the GC team, cheerleaders, and stands while pounding their chests and making things worse. Are both sides to blame for the skirmishes? Probably. Could it have been handled better? Probably. Will the next meeting of these two teams be ugly? I certainly hope not. It doesn't have to be this way. I hope you know I'm only calling it the way I see it. Also, both teams could have played better and it was anybody's game until the very end.
  9. Not Graves... Christian county's players and coaches were - for the most part - classless.
  10. A bit of news from the far Western end of the state: Both Graves County teams were victorious against the Logan County teams and Mayfield 8th remains undefeated winning 34-0 in a 20 minute (game time) rain-shortened game vs Browning Springs (Madisonville).
  11. Cardinal defense will be in the backfield chasing Mathis all night... but he will complete a few passes and the Eagles could score 2-3 TD's before being shut down by the MHS boys after the halftime adjustments. Too many weapons for the Cards and they win pulling away 48-14.
  12. Maybe Glasgow... but, the top 5 are pretty dominant.
