  1. My daughter has done both knees. One in 7th grade and the other during summer leading up to senior year. Therefore I have way more knowledge than I care to. I remember both times the doctors specifically talking about how important the quad(thigh) muscle was to protecting the ACL. Coach Duncan, new football coach at Paducah Tilghman, use to be at Murray High and was psycho about the guys doing lunges, for lots of reasons, but specifically for protecting against ACL injuries. My daughters second ACL came in the last game of the last day of June ball so I have a perticular distaste for that season. In reality it could happen anytime I guess. She had no "collateral" damage. Just a plain ACL tear. Repair surgery was done July 8th and she was back in the court by January 1. Any additional damage to other ligaments or meniscus would not have allowed for that. She took it pretty slow but was playing full time before districts came around. I've been told that was probably the best it could/should have been so she was lucky.
  2. Dior Curtis has been named new boys varsity coach at Murray High. Coach Dior, as he is referred to by most, has been an assistant under the last three coaches and was named interim shortly after Coach Fleener left to become Superintendent at Russellville. It was widely assumed he was get the permanent title but was held up due to Murray Independent Schools changing superintendents July 1st. He is a Murray State graduate and I believe landed in Murray after being displaced by Hurricane Katrina. A fine young man that has the support of most all players, parents and fans. Calloway should name a new head coach soon to complete the three 4th district head coaching vacancies after the 2016/17 season.
  3. Happy for Coach Gellispie. I can't imagine going through what they went through losing a child and still functioning at a pretty high level. I think most 1st region fans would agree they underachieved this year, especially coming down the stretch. 2 region titles in 13 years would be ok with a lot of teams in the 1st but probably not Marshall. I've heard rumors the current AD may be in line. They have a pretty stout class of 2020 seniors that I think includes his son.
  4. Cakes all dough here. 59-41. CC led by #35 with 12. The big two were held in check fairly well. Murray never really pulled away but we're never threatened either. Well disciplined team from Campbell County but not enough fire power against the Tigers.
  5. 32-14 half. CC very patient but shots aren't falling. Size is an advantage for Murray.
  6. Campbell Co fans that want to catch the broadcast can try 1340wnbs.com. The Tigers play by play man is the husband (Travis) of our head coach (Rechelle) Turner. He's also the head baseball coach of crosstown rival Calloway Co. I don't think I'll be doing updates but will try and give a recap afterwards.
  7. On the road tonight and didn't get to see the Murray v Scott matchup but did listen to the Murray radio call and the Murray announcer was very complementary of the Scott team. Murray was able to squeeze out the win. Looking forward to seeing the Murray v Ryle matchup tomorrow. I've read a lot of nice things about some of the young talent at Ryle. Murray has a very good starting 5 but are not very deep otherwise. Murray's coach Turner has enough experience that I feel confident they won't be looking ahead to a potential semifinal game with Butler. On paper I was a little surprised that Ryle came out on top of Easrern but congrats to Ryle. Was this considered an upset by those in the know?
  8. Murray 70-Franklin Co. 60. Final from the Marshall Co. Hoopfest
  9. The season ending injury was to Loryn Carver, who plays third base for softball. Brittany Lawson is fine and starting this year at guard. She will play soccer next year at Asbury.
  10. Beat Dresden TN last night. 71-38 on the road. Franklin Co up next at the Marshall Co hoop fest.
  11. Any Trinity fans know if Barron Hoffman will be suiting up for the finals? I'm sure it would be hard to work into the rotation at this point in the season. I've known the family for years and I know they were really devastated with the preseason injury he had. He worked hard for three plus years to finally earn a starting spot but it was not to be
  12. As a Murray High homer I agree that just due to geographical location the Tigers schedule will have to be softer than the 6th and 7th region teams and also the Northern Ky regions. However our staff has made a concerted effort last year and this year to go get good games. Part of that is helped by last years success and the expections for this year. We wouldn't have the opportunities in average years that we now have. I think we will play 6 of the preseason top 25 teams and possible 1 or 2 more depending on how the Lex tourney plays out. None of the other first region teams are ranked but there are still teams here that can take us down on a given night so a return to the sweet 16 is not a given. A return to Frankfort should be a given. But several of the All A region champions can be penciled in before the season starts I guess. By my count 6 of the top 10 teams are from the 6th and 7th so it should be a gauntlet night in night out. Girls high school fans should have a enjoyable year in and around Louisville this year.
  13. Played Graves Co and Webster Co. and won both without Waldrop.
