  1. Long time assistant coach Brandon Embry has been named the new Head Coach of the Butler County Bears. Brandon Embry has coached at Butler County for over a decade, coaching for two years under Coach Robert Tuck and the past eight years under Coach Emmick. During the past decade, the Bears have gone 62-56 and have won 5 playoff games and hosted 5 playoff games. Best of luck to Coach Embry!!
  2. There were a ton of injuries for the bears and a few kids left. One received a baseball scholarship offer. Coach Emmick sat down with him and they agreed the move was the best for the young man. He had battled knee issues all season after having surgery in July. Two players parted ways due to school discipline issues. I will say that Coach Emmick always put his players first no matter what. It wasn't an ego thing for this coaching staff. They truly cared about their players and want the best for them even if it made their jobs a little harder.
  3. The field is going to be fixed at Butler County. Currently the school system is looking to do a major renovation to the playing field and track. I know the Board wants to turf the field and re-do the track as well as build tennis courts. This would fix the field situation, bring soccer on campus, and expand the amount of facilities they have to use year round. At worst the field will be completely redone with a bermuda surface but like I said, the BOE wants turf. Coach Emmick made sure this was in the works before announcing his resignation. He also just repaired several items in the weight room to ensure it was ready to go for the offseason. The program is in great shape for the future with a solid middle school program and good numbers in the youth program. The next coach will have a solid foundation to keep building the program.
  4. Rex Henderson, Qb Butler County, has accepted a preferred walk-on spot at Western Kentucky University
  5. Here is an interesting side note to this conversation. While discussing the merits of paying coaches, one also needs to look at the quality of product a well supported coach/team brings to the table. The quality of team directly reflect the fans in the stand, and the fans in the stands directly impact the financial income of the athletic department for that high school. In the small county that I am in, without the income from the gate from football, our athletic department would be nearly non existent. We have two revenue sports which are football and boys basketball. All other sports lose money. Our funding from the BOE has been cut each and every year to the point where for the most part our athletic department has to be self funding. Does it not make sense to support a coach such as Coach Scroggins financially in order to keep him. The product he put on the field led to several years worth of additional games that he was not compensated for but the school reaped the benefit from in regards to gate money and reciepts. If one only looks at a typical yearly gate of (guessing) $15,000 and figures that out over a solid 4 year run of added games due to playoffs, then that is an additional $60,000 that the program brought to the athletic department with no recognition or reward given back to the coach. Maybe my math is wrong and someone will straighten that part out but regardless, each school who has solid coaching and consistently puts quality product on the field and moves on through the playoffs MAKES MONEY. How do they justify not paying those who got them there?
  6. Rex Henderson picked up an offer from Murray State University last night. Congrats to a great young man with a bright future.
  7. Coach Smart currently working through the defensive gameplan to stop the Purples...
  8. The receiver that gave Russellville fits was #11 Gage Ward. Really glad for the kid to start to come in to his own as last year in the first game of the season vs. Logan he suffered a broken femur. He has a titanium rod in his leg and has worked tirelessly to get back on the field. Rex thus far has offers on the table from Morehead and Kentucky Wesleyan College. He is an outstanding young man who could be a great value to a college willing to throw together a package combining academics and athletics as he is a 4.0 student with a high ACT.
  9. The Side Saddle T is a definite classic. A prolific offense in its own right!!
  10. Do today's practice rules favor the spread vs. traditional "smash mouth" styles? Limited contact in practice, limited contact in the preseason, and now rules that limit the free blocking zone. Has this hampered traditional run teams from developing as fast as spread teams?
  11. I think it was more like 20-20. I got both teams scoring 3 Tds. Good competitive scrimmage. Both teams looked rusty.
  12. Nice read ATLCAT. I have to ask which Ka-tet do you think is the most formidable? I would have to assume that the Crimson King reigns supreme until its knocked off but who else's season is Ka? For who has the world moved on? Had to nerd up this thread a little. Long days and pleasant nights.
  13. Couple of points to discuss: 1) I just saw a spring football twitter picture from another WCS school. Looked to be 10 players in the picture but not 100% certain. If there are only 10 at practice, how does that work? Wasn't the main reason to Stephens' firing because he only had 21 players out? So if your neighboring school only has 10 kids out then how exactly is that justified? Kinda leads me to think the idea of getting somebody's boy in the mix is probably more accurate of a reason. 2) Someone said earlier that my comments were a veiled invitation to transfer. Nope, more just keeping the discussion going. If a school is failing at academics, failing at athletics, and failing with their administration, is that a school you want to keep your kids at? Why not look elsewhere? Then take into account the fact that the easiest move is a close move and you would want to be able to play/contribute right away then choices are limited. BG is pretty well set unless you are a stud. SW is the same. If you are a starting/competing Warren Central player then chances stand if you transfer to a school in one of the surrounding counties you stand a great chance of being a standout and having success right away. Makes sense to me if I'm a parent. If I'm going to make a move, make it somewhere my kid can be successful right away.
