  1. Questioning the stats of a team on a thread that uses these stats to rank players, is in fact questioning the legitimacy of a players achievements, deliberate or not. Even Sir, on post #11 of this thread, responding to YC, understood this was about Wend. If the comments are merely a call out that all stat reporting is not created equal, why call out a specific team, or for that matter bring up a game that happened a month ago? Post # 9. Perhaps using the word "Phishy" is what did it for me. To me this implies intent on someone to decieve. I'm not sure who Conner uses to record stats, but I am confident there is no intent behind crediting goals or assists incorrectly. I appreciate the responses and the clarification of your comments, but if I say the explanations seem "phishy" to me, please don't take offense.
  2. No need to apologize if that's how you feel, I'm not that bothered by it. I also agree that stats should be accurate, but to claim something is phishy is to imply that there is a motive behind the credited goals. Can' t help to think that if Wend wasn' t on this list that we would not be talking about Conner's goal count. For the record Wend was only credited with the questionable goal against Boone, none against CCH and I would argue the Boone goal was legit. I joined the forum because I enjoy most comments and game summaries and occasionally have a question or comment. I love that someone takes the time to breakdown the stats like this and posts to generate discussion. I don' t see the value in questioning the integrity of a program or the achievements of a young man who has had a wonderful season. I realize stats like these go a long way in discussing the OPOY and this is why I think some feel the need to discredit others. Is Wend the OPOY? Don' t know and don't care, but I'm glad he's a Cougar and I'd bet most teams would welcome him with open arms into their lineup. BTW, not my son, which I'm sure has crossed the minds of some readers.
  3. Should someone call the Elias Sports Bureau? I'm fairly new to the forums, not that new to high school sports, but can't figure out why there is so much chatter about 70 or 74 goals, if Wend has 30, 33 or 36 goals. I understand that everyone would like accuracy in stats, but you"d think they were giving out an actual Golden Boot for most goals by the reaction. For those that claim this is "phishy", can you explain what there is to gain?
  4. I believe Wend got the credit. The ball bounced off Boone's goalie with some serious spin. The Boone player who touched it was in the goal when it made contact.
  5. Conner scoring, Wend 3, Parsons, Seikman Boone scoring, Martinez. I think, maybe someone can help.
  6. Cooper called for a foul, Conner player takes the ball back to the spot of the foul and adjusts the ball with his hands. The kick was about 40 yards from goal so both teams were getting into position around the top of the box. As the Conner player was waiting to take the kick the ball rolled from it perch, Coopers field, enough said, the player goes back to adjust the ball and is carded for a deliberate Hand Ball.
  7. Whistles started early and kept going. Penalty kick awarded 10 seconds into the game, fastest I've ever seen. The game clock hadn't even started yet. Another first for me was the Yellow Card Hand Ball given to Conner player as he was adjusting the ball on a free kick. The whistle hadn't blown to signify play, but even if it had, it's a pretty cheap call. Both coaches not happy with the amount of calls.
  8. Not a good game for Conner, they looked unorganized and played sloppy. Maybe just a bad night, it happens. I think Thursdays game at Cooper will say alot on how the rest of the season will go.
  9. I agree and I think that is why Conner has struggled with the good teams in the past, although Wend and Parsons up top are significantly better than they have had in the past. With 16 seniors, 10 returning starters and 7 starting varsity since their sophomore year, I feel this is the most talent they have had in a while. They have the ability to play possession, its just not what they choose to do.
  10. Long balls to the Forwards versus possession. In my opinion watching a Conner game can be deceiving. I'm sure SK dominated in time of possesion, but that did not turn into more scoring opportunities. With SK controlling the ball more you might think they played better, but Conner does not have to be successful with a high percentage of their long balls to put together good scoring opportunities. Their goals last night were on a corner and two from fouls that were all created by long balls.
  11. I would argue the statement of SK looking to be the better team. Between Soccerama and last night it is Conner 7 - Simon Kenton 1, with the 1 being an own goal. I'm not crazy about Conner's style of play, but there was definitely more talent on the Conner side. I would say that SK showed significant improvement from the first matchup.
