Russell's run defense has been stout (giving up about 30 ypg) during this five game win streak. They'll be put to the test this Friday. Swartz has had a couple of standout games against Russell. A poor start like they had last week could really hurt them versus Bath. It looks like the Wildcats have made strides in the passing game. Swartz is still Plan A. But it looks like they at least have a Plan B now, which is one more plan than they've...

I have no idea. That would be huge for Ashland if he's good to go.

You could go over this site with a fine toothed comb and not find any trace of Paintsville fans. A few of them need to sign up and rep their team. They've got too good a program for their game threads to be so dormant. Usually Raceland fans carry this thread every year. The fan support on here never seems to match the significance of this game.

I think this is a game where Ashland will really miss Cade Brandt. The Tomcats had success against JC last year with big plays in the passing game, and Brandt was the epitome of a big play WR before his injury. With Ratliff, Hester, and Pittman, Ashland has the speed to hurt JC in space. I'm just not sure they can sustain enough drives to match JC score for score, because I expect Joe Jackson and Co. to march up and down the field at will behind...

On paper, the Cards (8-0) shouldn't break a sweat for the second straight game. Webster County only has one win this season. Barring a historic upset, this will wrap up another district title for Mayfield.

The younger Centurions got plenty of reps in a 63-14 beatdown of Shawnee. CAL (8-0) held the Golden Eagles to a staggering -89 yards rushing. The Generals (5-4) bring a measure of confidence into this game following their closer than expected 24-12 loss to DeSales.

DeSales (7-1) put forth a lackluster showing in its victory over Washington County, perhaps due to lingering after effects of the loss to CAL. Shawnee (0-7) should provide little resistance and allow the Colts an opportunity to get its underclassmen on the field early and often.

The Jumpers (7-2) look to polish off their district after beating Danville and LCA. Those same two teams have hammered Middlesboro (1-7) a combined 97-14 the past two weeks.

Glasgow (7-1) fell behind Monroe County by two TDs last week before storming back and then pulling away to win by three scores. Running back Nick Mitchell has carried the load for the Scotties this year, rushing for 1,348 yards and 20 TDs. Metcalfe County's (1-7) defense has played well enough to earn a few wins this year, but the offense has struggled to put points on the board.

Both of these teams have dropped off from where they were this time last year and fallen behind Somerset in the district. But there's still much to play for this season. This has been a great series in recent years. Can the Admirals (4-5) overcome their injury bug, or will the Eagles (5-3) sink Danville’s battleship?

The ‘Breds (3-5) have won two in a row following their five game losing streak, including a huge district win last week versus Lloyd. A win over Newport would secure them a district title and a couple of home playoff games. A win for the Wildcats (5-3) would potentially create a three way tie.

A win over Gallatin County would officially put a bow on WV's (6-2) fifth consecutive district championship. Gallatin (1-6) was the last district opponent to beat the Bearcats back in 2013. Due to a bye week and Trimble County not fielding a team this season, the Wildcats haven't played a game since September 28th.

During the build up to CovCath/Highlands, predictions ranged from a Highlands upset to a running clock victory for the Colonels. Someone even called for both outcomes in the same post in the pregame thread. The majority opinion seemed to be that, while Highlands was greatly improved over the past couple of years, Covington Catholic was simply too good to fall prey to the upset. A Highlands win would have turned the top of 5A upside down....

The Colonels (7-1) have already secured their most wins since 2010. They've bounced back nicely since their lone loss, a six point setback to South Oldham. The Chargers (3-5) come in with some confidence after taking down rival North Bullitt in overtime.

The Red Devils (6-2) have been on a roll over the past month. Ever since a close, competitive loss to Bowling Green, Owensboro has roasted rivals and district foes alike by an average score of 43-10. But the district title hasn't been locked down yet. The defacto championship game takes place this Friday versus Graves County (4-4). Following a four game losing streak earlier this season, the Eagles have won three straight in the district,...

The Bearcats (8-0) had to come from behind to beat district rival Montgomery County last week. That makes one district loss avenged from last year. Next up is Madison Southern, a team that defeated Anderson by 3 TDs a season ago. The Eagles (2-6) have come crashing back to Earth after last year's state runner-up finish.

Highlands (6-2) will enjoy a sizable advantage in talent over Greenwood. But can the Birds avoid an emotional letdown and slow start on the heels of their close-but-no-cigar result versus Covington Catholic? For the Gators (2-6), this game continues a brutal stretch of schedule that has included Franklin Simpson, Bowling Green, and South Warren all within the last five games.

Most other weeks, this would be the marquee game in this class. But BG/SW has pushed it to the back burner. That won't dampen the enthusiasm and energy surrounding this game within the communities behind the Warriors (8-0) and Maroons (6-2). This is one of the most intense rivalries around. Both teams are capable of lighting up the scoreboard, but Southwestern appears to have the superior defense this season. Will that be the difference here?

The Dragons (7-1) are coming in hot after dropping 70 points on a solid Bullitt Central team. South Oldham's offense has been averaging a 5A best 47.7 ppg since being shut down by CAL in Week 0. They manhandled North Bullitt (4-5) 59-7 last year.

CovCath (8-0) survived a game Highlands squad to take the reigns of District 5. They can now officially sew up the 1 seed with a win over Dixie Heights (0-8), a team that hasn't beaten them since 2007. It's NKY's Battle of the Colonels. Pick a side… Blue or Red?

Before the season even kicked off, this was one of the most hotly anticipated games in the state. The two teams split their two meetings last year, with BG clocking SW in the regular season and the Spartans stunning the Purples at home in the playoff rematch. Bowling Green (7-1) took one on the chin versus a powerful Warren Central squad out of Indianapolis last week. Can the Purples shake loose the cobwebs and dust themselves off in time to put...

This is the first time since 2014 that I feel like Raceland is the clear favorite going in. But this rivalry has thrown some curveballs at us in the last few years.
