Some good genes in that family. I know I'm looking ahead a little, but to have two brothers from little ol' Paintsville, KY make it to the highest level of college football is really something special.

I agree that the 7 on 7’s are nothing to get too worked up about, but that's got to be a great confidence booster for those young kids to go out and compete like that and get a win. Especially considering the caliber of QBs and skill people that the likes of Greenup, Raceland, and Wheelersburg (assuming they brought their A-team) bring to the table.

Not to detract from Fleming and Greenup's wins, but do either of you know if Wheelersburg brought it's A-team? When I saw who was attending, I figured Salyers and Holden would make some noise.

Sounds like a good man. Hopefully, this is nothing more than another bump in the road.

Conley is a 1996 graduate of Boyd County and played under the great Jody Hamilton. He's spent the past three seasons as Boyd's JV coach. To be honest, I'd forgotten that this job was even open. It kind of flew under the radar a bit.

WR/DB He's a good athlete. He'll give the offense another weapon opposite Caines.

I like the ambition displayed here. He's not afraid to challenge himself and his kids. Hopefully it pays off.

Raceland/Paintsville have met ten times in the past five years with the series deadlocked at five each since Chirico became the Tigers' head coach. The rivalry currently has a lot of heat to it and is arguably the best rivalry going in 1A. 2013 - Raceland swept both meetings convincingly. 2014 - Raceland again swept the Tigers, but Paintsville showed dramatic improvement in the playoff rematch. 2015 - Paintsville turned the tide in...

I expect them to take another step forward this year. Grizzle's got'em headed in the right direction. That doesn't necessarily mean that they'll push JC or beat Ashland, but they should be more competitive. And a win over Ashland isn't out of the question. Greenup gave them a game at Putnam last year. Sammons is the real deal, maybe the best QB prospect to come out of NEKY in a long, long time. He'll have a good group of skill people around...

As a huge ND fan, I can't wait to see Michael suiting up for the Irish. With ND's reputation as Tight End U, the sky's the limit for this young man. Hopefully, OC Chip Long hangs around South Bend another 5-6 years.

Michael Mayer has committed to play at the University of Notre Dame. Congratulations to Michael and the Mayer family for his commitment to such a prestigious academic and football institution, as well as Notre Dame for landing one of the top Tight Ends in the country for the class of 2020.

Drove by the high school yesterday. It's all starting to come together over there - the new field, the track, the new bleachers. Everything's looking good so far. It's a shame the Rams can't open the season at home to christen it all on the first Friday night of the season. Is anyone in Ramland going to miss the old "ring of death"? :D

The Tigers should be very good again. They'll miss WVU bound Tyrese Allen, but there's still plenty of talent on hand to keep Paintsville in the discussion. The addition of Josh McClurg from LCA gives Joe Chirico a major playmaker at QB, if that's the direction they choose to go. He looked good stepping in for an injured Logan Nieves during LCA's playoff run last year. McClurg's got a very well rounded skill set that will make him a valuable...

Wright could probably go to Purdue and make a big impact right away. Not sure that's the case at the other four.

According to Ballard's Hudl page, former CAL QB Austin Carr is now enrolled there. If Carr is a Bruin in 2018, it would surely alleviate the loss of Terrance May to some degree. He'd have a field day playing pitch and catch with Elijah Downing. I think Boyle's still gonna be too much to handle tho.

For the first time in a few years, Raceland is probably the outright favorite to win their region. Each of the past three seasons, it was Paintsville. Obviously, the Tigers are still right there, but Raceland should begin 2018 as the region favorite. I kind of wonder how Salmons and his staff are approaching this upcoming season, from a psychological standpoint. Does he want his kids to embrace the role of hunted (rather than hunter) in the...

Yes, only two seniors last year. I believe those two kids only went one way each, meaning that Pikeville will return starters at about 20 of 22 positions. Pikeville was pretty good by the end of 2017, especially considering that Wyatt Battaile opted not to play last season.
