I hope that's true. It would be a pleasant contradiction to all of the chatter surrounding the program recently.

The reported low numbers over the past few years in the lower grades might finally do Fairview football in. They dropped football once before. Is it about to happen again?

Greenup's Collier Wireman drove in the winning run on a bases loaded single in the bottom of the 7th. Congrats to the Musketeers.

Over the past several years, baseball and basketball in the 63rd have mirrored each other in a lot of ways. Greenup has Russell's number, Russell has Raceland's, and Raceland has Greenup's. If Raceland had won last night, I would have picked them to win the district because they seem to have some sort of mental edge over Greenup right now. If recent history is any indicator, Greenup will roll the Devils tonight. At this point, it's all about...

(63rd District Tournament) Russell's Justin Manning and Raceland's Kirk Pence both went the distance. Jacob Funk drove in both of Russell's runs on a two out, bases loaded single in the 6th.

(63rd District Tournament) The Musketeers advance behind the arm of Ryan Lambert, who threw a complete game one-hitter. Lewis County's Seth Wright (10 K's) was nearly his equal with a complete game of his own.

Boyle County ran (no pun intended) away with the boys and girls 2A titles. The boys almost lapped the field, besting 2nd place Mercer County 110-65. With the Danville boys winning the 1A title, Danville can now lay claim to being the Title Town of track and field, as well as football.

If this is the kid that started for Ironton last season, he'll be an immediate impact player for the Rams. I only saw him play once last year, but I was very impressed with the way he played on both sides of the ball.

That's a pretty strong top 5 for 1A. I think there's a sharp line under Paintsville, though, where you'll see a significant drop-off after those five teams. I'm okay with Raceland at #2, but Pikeville has a strong case for that spot. They basically played Raceland even last year and they return pretty much everybody.

I'm not exactly going out on a limb here, but if Boyle County can put anything resembling a competent offensive line on the field next season, they could run away with 3A like Secretariat at the Belmont. O-line is pretty much the only position group where the Rebels have any question marks whatsoever.

He might not have the arm strength/talent that some of the other elite QBs possess, but he's extremely accurate, doesn't turn the ball over, and is blessed with the intangibles you just can't teach. With all of the talent around him at Boyle, he's set to have a great career there. He had a crazy good year last year, for a sophomore.

According to Aaron Snyder's twitter, David Manning has added Paul Rains and Zack Moore to the staff. Rains is a well travelled coach with over 200 career wins and a state title in 2009 at LCA. Most recently, he was the head coach at Dunbar, before retiring after the 2015 season. Manning served on his staff at Montgomery County some 25+ years ago. That's a really good get for Boyd County's program. Moore was previously the head coach at...

All together, those sub-districts ran from '79-'86, so they've officially been in the same district every year since '87. Prior to '79, they shared a district from '74-'78. Records get a little fuzzy/incomplete once you get into the early 70's back to the beginning of the playoff era.

That's a good point regarding KCD. Reflecting back on 2017, they were probably #2 in 1A. But I do think the eastern half of 1A has had more quality teams than the west during the past few years, making it the tougher playoff road to navigate.

The khsaa football alignment gods have smiled on Beechwood once again. The Tigers will go from having the easiest path to the championship game in 1A to having the easiest path in 2A, as well.

I like the idea of Brossart and NewCath in the same district, but the configuration of districts 4 and 5 just makes too much sense as it is, especially D4 having all four schools clustered together like that.

He just missed the cut for my top 5. Sammons is legit and I think he's right on the cusp of being an elite QB in this state. By season's end, he should be much more well known around the bluegrass, especially if Greenup takes a big step forward as a team this year.

NewCath dropping down might have increased their chances of adding to their trophy case, but the likes of Pikeville, Raceland, Paintsville, and Hazard will have plenty to say about who rules the roost in 1A. No one should be crowning NCC based on their tradition. Beechwood has owned the 'Breds lately just as much as they've owned 1A the past couple of seasons. If NewCath had been in 1A the past few years, they would have likely been on par with...

4A just went from arguably the weakest overall class to arguably the strongest. Franklin Simpson, Johnson Central, and Wayne County are still there with Boyle County, Central, Corbin, and LexCath joining the party. It's gonna be crowded at the top.

They've got to feel pretty good about their new 2A district. If the new coach is able to build on some young talent, West Carter could have a good run over those four years. On the down side, it looks like their most difficult playoff paths will occur during Leetavious Cline's junior and senior seasons. Their region could be wide open in 2021 and 2022, though. Consider me a West Carter fan after this season. You all are due for some...

I was thinking the same thing earlier today. Whoever it ends up being, I'm sure Trinity's QB will be in the top 5 conversation. At this point, Beatty and his staff have earned the benefit of the doubt on first year starting QBs.

I'm not completely sold on Jones as a top 5 quarterback, yet. His size and arm strength are impressive, but the gap between the opposition he faced at Knott County Central and what he'll see at Frederick Douglass is as wide as the Grand Canyon. With a strong senior campaign, he could definitely play his way into the top 5, but I can't put him there right now, even with his commitment to Cincinnati. My list focuses on pro-style QBs... 1....

Greenup County QB Eli Sammons is definitely someone to keep an eye on in 2018 and beyond. The incoming junior is blessed with size (6'5") and plenty of arm talent. He also possesses above average mobility. Under the tutelage of head coach Scott Grizzle (a bright, young, gifted offensive mind - and former QB himself) the sky's the limit for the young Musketeer QB. Per 247 Sports, Frederick Douglass quarterback Cam Jones has committed to the University of Cincinnati. His transfer from Knott County Central to FD has garnered a lot of attention. At 6'8" and nearly 250 lbs, he certainly has the measurables that D1 coaches are looking for. His continued development with the Broncos will be an intriguing storyline to follow this upcoming season. Cameron Jones Talks Cincinnati Commitment

The cream of that 2020 class in Kentucky is special. Tisdale and Mayer should both be in the conversation for best at their respective positions nationally and have their pick of any college destination they want. Mayer is going to be a match-up nightmare for every opponent CovCath sees the next two years.

From far WKY, to the big city schools in the Lou./Lex./NKY triangle, to the deep, dark hills of Harlan County... That's a really good, well rounded list. Of the places you haven't been yet, does anywhere stand out as a must see, bucket list destination?
