You can't capitalize on turnovers any better than the Irish did yesterday. 3 turnovers = 3 TDs There are still some things to work on, but I really like the collective attitude of this year's team. I also think the coaching staff changes in the off-season were good ones. Especially both coordinators and the strength and conditioning coach.

I only caught the final drive by Chicago in OT, but HOLY COW, was that some pitiful run defense by the Steelers? Very un-Pittsburgh like. The long TD run gets brought back to the 37, then the Bears just pound the ball right down Pittsburgh's throat on two runs to get the win.

Cole Coburn. I'm not 100% certain that he suffered a season ending injury, but he's no longer with the team and he had an injury of some kind in the preseason.

It's hard to say how good the secondary will be going forward (Russell is now down 3 starters at DB) because so much of the West Carter game was decided in the trenches. This will be the week where we find out what our pass defense is made of. Russell might start freshmen at both safety spots. Crump will test those guys, for sure. I'm leaning toward this being a shootout.

I've watched Russell's current senior class closely since they were freshmen. These young men have been winners at every level on their way up. As of now, 4 senior starters are done for the year. For lack of a better term, it sucks that they won't all get to the finish line together. But, for the better of the program, all you can do suck it up and move forward. I have faith that all of these kids, including Alexander, will come back from...

Mayfield rolled Murray twice in 1998, 41-7 and 38-7. The Cards didn't lose until they ran into that Middlesboro buzzsaw in the championship game that year.

Challenging yourself with a difficult schedule year in and year out is a big part of the foundation for elevating bad programs to good, good programs to great, and great programs to champions. Beating up on cupcakes week after week will result in short term gratification, but often leads to postseason disappointment when you run into an opponent of equal or superior talent. The idea is to ensure that the team is as well prepared as possible for...

The top ranked Admirals (6-0) buried Garrard County 42-2 in Week 5. Danville held the Golden Lion's potent rushing attack (averaging 274 ypg on the season) to 93 yards on 46 carries. Tates Creek (4-1) has reeled off 3 straight wins since its loss to Frederick Douglass (a team that Danville blanked 36-0 in Week 0). The Commodores pounded Bryan Station 38-8 on Friday night.

The Colts (5-0) looked strong early and held off 3A #7 Lexington Catholic 38-26 on Friday night in a battle of Jefferson and Fayette County private school powers. North Hardin (2-4) got their knees buckled by Boyle County, 56-10. The Trojans gave up 474 yards of offense to the Rebels.

The Cards (5-1) came up short against 3A #2 Corbin in one of the state's most high profile games in Week 5. It was the first regular season loss for Mayfield since a 37-31 setback against McCracken County two years ago. Murray (2-4) lost to 1A Russellville, 28-21, on Friday. The Tigers haven't beaten the Cardinals since ??? The KHSAA records go back to 1998, and it's been nothing but Mayfield wins since then.

After trailing at the half, LCA's (6-0) superior numbers wore down a game Kentucky Country Day squad in Week 5. The Eagles outscored KCD 41-7 after intermission. Following an 0-3 start, Middlesboro (2-4) had put together consecutive wins before getting rocked by South Laurel, 47-6.

CAL (4-1) is coming off an Open Week. The Centurions will look to get back on the winning side of the scoreboard after having their 18 game winning streak ended by Newport Central Catholic. Meade County (4-2) dropped a 35-28 contest to John Hardin in Week 5. The Green Wave surrendered a 2 TD lead in the 4th quarter.

With a 35-19 loss to 4A #6 Franklin Simpson, the Scotties (4-2) have now dropped two out of their last three. Green County (4-2) defeated Hart County 16-6 on Friday. The Dragons have bounced back with 4 wins already this year after just 1 win a year ago. Glasgow has won seven in a row in this district series.

OCath (3-3) shook off the ill effects of a loss last week to crosstown Apollo to throttle an overwhelmed Butler County, 59-6. QB Drew Hartz threw for 4 TDs in the rout. McLean County (1-4) is coming in off a 32-6 loss to unbeaten Logan County. The Cougars have been shut out by the Aces two years in a row.

I didn't know the full extent of Jaeden's injury. I was told that he was week to week. This senior class has been hit hard by the injury bug. I hate to see them not be able to finish this journey together.
