Big win for the Rams. This should move them back up to #2. Raceland's offense could be scary once Cox gets another game or two under his belt. You've got him and Gunnur as your vertical threats, Dalton and Wallace making the tough catches underneath and over the middle, and Judd and Hunter pounding away between the tackles. And Heighton's only going to get better. This team will be a handful to deal with.

Great effort from Russell tonight. West Carter stayed within striking distance with a late 2nd quarter interception followed soon after by a TD right before the half. In the 3rd quarter, Rivers connected with Cline on a beautiful TD pass where Rivers heaved it on the run and Cline reeled it in over his shoulder for the score. Other than that, it was all Russell. I thought they'd win by 2-3 scores. Wasn't really expecting a blowout. This was a...

You could argue that neither team's schedule strength has lived up to what most people thought it'd be before the season began. Wins over teams like Ryle, Henry Clay, Central Hardin, and Hopkinsville haven't held up in the subsequent weeks.

If I hadn't heard about Raceland people being irked by that comment, I never would have thought anything of it. I honestly feel like you'd have to reach pretty far to find motivation in what Hurd said. But that's just me. If Raceland can use this to dig a little deeper, more power to them. Should add to the intensity on the field Friday night.

That's great to hear, especially regarding John. He was visibly upset after aggravating an injury versus Ashland. I was afraid it might have been a season ender, or at the very least, kept him out for an extended period of time.

I don't get all the hubbub surrounding this so called "disrespect" coming from PW. I'm not even sure this was really intended to be a slight toward Raceland. The way I read it, it sounds like he's saying that he's hoping for a blowout this Friday, not necessarily expecting one. Which is something all teams/players do. This is some next level chestiness from the Ram faithful. Whatever motivates you, run with it I guess.

CovCath is allowing just 7 ppg, and South Warren's starting defensive unit has only been scored upon once this season. Lacey, Mayer, Bush, Coldiron… talent galore on both squads. Who has the superior defense?

I agree. Prestonsburg is really struggling in year one under Brewer. Maybe they can grab a win or two in district play, because their district is awful outside of Shelby Valley. It might take Brewer a few years to replenish the talent pool there and get things moving. Hopefully they're patient with him.

There are some other good programs in the west like Russellville, KCD, and Holy Cross. But it's a pretty safe bet that your anticipated scenario will play out. Beechwood moving up to 2A next year will really open things up in the west.

There is no cross bracketing in 1A, so the western half of 1A is as follows... District 1: Crittenden County, Fulton City, Fulton County, Russellville District 2: Bethlehem, Campbellsville, Caverna, Fort Knox District 3: Frankfort, Kentucky Country Day, Lou. Holy Cross District 4: Beechwood, Bellevue, Dayton, Ludlow

Last year, Russell started 0-3, blew out a bad Boyd County team, and proceeded to running clock the Comets. I don't think the script plays out quite the same way this year, but West Carter has an awful lot of ground to make up on Russell. Historically in this series, the Red Devils have had a big advantage over West in trenches. There lies the key to this game, imo. Have the Comets progressed enough in that area to help offset any advantage...

The Senators are a tough, downhill running team. Last year's game was very physical, if I recall. It's not easy to cross the river and come back with a victory. This game will test Raceland's physical and mental toughness. As was mentioned earlier, "testicular fortitude" will likely play a big factor in the outcome. I think Raceland's upgrade in QB play this year will make the difference. I'm taking the Rams in a reversal of last year's...

I can get on board with that comparison. Reese doesn't have the prototypical size for a safety that Harrison has. But like you said, his vertical and ball skills help make up for it some. I'm a big ND supporter and Harrison Smith's one of my favorite golden domers ever. So comparing Reese to him is lofty praise in my book.

Reportedly, Barren County did the same thing with Bowling Green as well. I have no idea how/when Rocky Mountain is making the trip in for this game. I'd be interested to know how this game came to be in the first place. It's not like RM is some kind of powerhouse. And there are a lot of great programs between Bowling Green and northern Colorado that surely would have made more practical sense. Is there a connection between the schools?

The Aces (3-2) held on to beat Apollo 33-30 behind a big game from Vonn Williams (239 yards and 2 TDs). The winless Bears are nursing a 16 game losing streak. This game got out of hand in a hurry last year.

Following a bad loss to Beechwood and a bye week, the Juggs (3-1) have bounced back with consecutive blowout wins. Grant County (1-4) has lost four straight since a season opening win over Owen County. Lloyd has won three straight over the Braves, with the last two years being routs.

The 'Breds (1-4) are reeling following their fourth consecutive loss, a 31-0 setback to CAL. Conner (3-1) defeated Dixie Heights 21-13 in Week 4. Since this series resumed in 2015, the Cougars have won three straight over NewCath.

Both of these teams have suffered major personnel losses since last season, but they've also shown signs that they're not ready to fade into the ether of their respective classes. LCA (3-2) replaces Walton-Verona in the rankings after taking down the Bearcats 38-21. KCD (3-2) has won three in a row following an 0-2 start. LCA prevailed over KCD a year ago in a game that featured 107 combined points and over 1,000 yards of total offense.

The Ads (2-3) fell asleep at the wheel in the 2nd half against Waggener, but held on for a 30-21 victory, ending a three game losing streak. Garrard County defeated East Jessamine 34-31 in Week 4, despite giving up 400 yards on the ground. This game was a 40 point blowout last year in Danville's favor. Could it be more competitive this time around?

The Jumpers (4-1) routed North Laurel 41-0 in Week 4, but may have suffered another costly injury in the process. Rockcastle County (2-2) had a week off to recover from its embarrassing blowout loss to Woodford County. Somerset won a 12-6 defensive slobber knocker over the Rockets last season.

This is arguably the marquee game in the state this week, but will actually take place in Tennessee on the campus at Austin Peay University. Friday's game may conclude the series, at least for the time being. Both teams are unbeaten and playing at a high level. If this is indeed the end, hopefully these two great programs can send the series off on a high note. Mayfield won in 2015 and 2016, and the Redhounds came out on top last year. The last...

After taking care of Fern Creek 40-14, the Colts (4-0) must now turn their attention to LexCath. The Knights (4-1) are looking to get back on track following a 44-27 defeat to Highlands. In last year's 38-26 DeSales win, the Colts bullied LexCath's front seven around for 381 rushing yards.

Grading the Top 10 I never really wanted to be a teacher. It's not that I don't like kids. I just don't like dealing with 20 of them at a time. This type of classroom really suits me… there's only ten of them and they can't talk back to me. Covington Catholic: A+ You could argue that the defending champs have exceeded expectations thus far. Obviously, we thought they'd be good, as evidenced by their preseason #1 ranking. But there were...

The running clock streak may have ended, but CovCath (5-0) weathered some early heat from Beechwood to win going away, 49-14. The Colonels now turn their attention to a traditional power from Columbus, as they venture into enemy territory to face the St. Francis DeSales Stallions. The Stallions are 3-1, with their lone loss coming to fellow traditional Ohio power Cardinal Mooney by a point. CovCath beat DeSales 35-14 last season.

The Purples (5-0) demolished Warren Central 50-6, in what may be the last game between those two for the foreseeable future. BG will attempt to make it 2/2 against schools in their own back yard as they square off with Greenwood (2-3). This series hasn't seen a close game since 2004.

South Warren (5-0) hung a running clock on previously unbeaten Grayson County in Week 4. The Spartans will try to show the Rocky Mountain Lobos some good old fashioned southern hospitality. The Lobos (1-3) will make the nearly 1,200 mile (17 hour) trek from Fort Collins, Colorado. This game replaced the Barren County game on SW's schedule after Barren County bought their way out.
