This was the best game in NEKY last year. This year, I'm not quite sure what to expect. If Raceland shows up focused and plays inspired football, they probably win by a couple of scores. You gotta wonder, though, about the possible lingering after effects of another loss to Paintsville. I do, however, expect Russell to leave it all on the field. They just got the RCB trophy back for the first time in several years, they're not just going to...

Syracuse was unranked. Ashland was #4. I'm not saying that Ashland should be or will be the new #1, but it's not like they were coming from way back in the pack. You're right, the early season losses can't be dismissed, but Ashland's come a long way since those games and they just took down #1. They're as hot as any team in 4A right now.

Where did the time go? Every year, during the off-season, we gather here at Bluegrass Preps and anxiously count down the days until the kickoff of Week 0. Those 37 weeks can feel like an eternity. The season itself? Seemingly gone in the blink of an eye. As the regular season is nearing its end, it's now time for the annual, and occasionally odd, out of district finale. I say “occasionally odd”, because playoff seeding and destinations...

The Colts (9-0) averaged nearly 20 yards per rush attempt against an overmatched and overwhelmed Shawnee. As good as DeSales has been in recent years, they're still searching for a perfect 10-0 regular season under Coach Harold Davis. This looks like the year they finally get it. Southern (4-5) will look to play the role of spoiler.

LCA (8-1) started strong against Danville, leading by two scores in the 1st half, but couldn't hang with the Ads down the stretch. A year after claiming the first district title in school history, Estill County (2-7) just never really got going this year. Look for LCA to put this one out of reach early and rest their starters for the playoffs.

Quarterback Austin Carr returned after a lengthy absence and threw a couple of touchdown passes as CAL (7-2) blew out Washington County, 49-6. The Centurions close out the regular season against Bullitt East (4-5) before setting their sights on a 2nd straight title.

The Bearcats (7-2) continued their great defensive run with a 42-0 shutout of Gallatin County. WV has pitched five shutouts this year, and has only surrendered seven points in their last four games. Bellevue’s (5-4) defense has let them down as of late. They've given up 40+ three weeks in a row.

Lloyd (7-2) broke into the top 10 last week for the first time this year and will stay put after demolishing Covington Holy Cross, 62-13. Scott (6-3) swept through their district 4-0, and will now face the Juggs in what should be a competitive final tune-up for both teams before the playoffs.

The Scotties (7-2) hammered Metcalfe County 57-13 to complete the sweep of their district. One more hurdle remains before postseason play begins… E'Town (8-1) has won six in a row since the loss to CAL. The defense has been outstanding, giving up only 35 points during that stretch.

We've all heard of the irresistible force paradox, right? It poses the conundrum, what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object? Of course, there's really no answer, because, well… it's a paradox. Have any words ever been more appropriate for describing the participants in a football game than “unstoppable force” and ”immovable object” in regards to Belfry and Johnson Central? Those terms aptly fit the defending 3A and 4A...

At worst, Ashland is #3. JC has to drop below them.

That was a strangely low scoring game considering each team had trouble stopping the other all night. Russell had drives killed by penalties, Bath had drives killed by turnovers. Swartz is a great player and continued to add to his monster season tonight. Bath will be a force to be reckoned with next year with all that they've got coming back. Russell's "reward" is hosting Wandale and Co. for the 1st Round.

It's gonna be tough sledding for Ashland in the trenches on both sides of the ball. Their best chance might be to give Ratliff a lot of run/pass options. Get him and Ashland's other skill people in space as often as possible. I don't see much success for the Tomcats running right into the teeth of JC's defense with Stalker, Johnson and Co. waiting with open arms.

Nathan is Nick's little brother. Nathan is very much a chip off the old block. Everything from the toughness that he runs with, to his posture and mannerisms reminds you of Nick. Oh, and we're not sharing our cloning technology. Nice try, JD.

This gives Russell a 25-14 edge in the all time series, including five of the last six.

Russell's defense put the clamps down on a high scoring Ashland offense. Tomcats had about 30-35 yards of total offense. Tremendous effort by the Devils and the coaching staff.

Charlie Jachimczuk was the offensive MVP for Russell (over 100 yards rushing and a TD). AJ Biggs was the defensive MVP. Hunter Gillum was the offensive MVP for Ashland, Caleb Tackett the defensive MVP.
