  1. Lisa Harrison from Southern High School. She went on to play for Tennessee and had a successful career in WNBA.
  2. I have to agree with the above posters. This man clearly doesn't know how or doesn't put any effort into his lists. I used to look at his lists and get frustrated until I realized how political it is.
  3. My experience tells me that scholarships are made during AAU ball. I know most HS coaches hate AAU but that fact of the matter is, AAU is when most college coaches make their rounds to the exposure events. That being said, it really depends on what your goal is for your child. Do you want her getting an opportunity to lead a program to the sweet 16 or simply to be apart of a sweet 16 team? By transferring to a more "accomplished" school, I would imagine her role would be significantly different than her current role. This may be ok as long as your only goal is to get her to a sweet 16 (which there are no guarantees). But if it's to get her a scholarship, I would say find a good national AAU program. Also, not that I am saying this will happen to your daughter, but I've seen a lot of girls who were head and shoulders above their counterparts at 11 only to get passed by as they got older for a variety of reasons ie...skill development, growth, speed, work ethic...
  4. I am friend with 2 former players that I know were tuition free. Something about a lawyer donates the tuition for them. Let me be clear, I have no issues with helping those who can't afford a private school education, get that opportunity. I'm probably a little bitter because my daughter, who went to Farnsley and wasn't a great basketball player, was not given the same opportunities as her 2 good friends who were good basketball players.
  5. Spot on RCC9! I am all for kids having an opportunity to get a better education if that's what it's about. Unfortunately, it seems the public school kids who are offered this better education, at some schools, coincidentally, happen to be great ball players! I know a lot of public school parents who would love for their kids to get a free education at the private schools, but unfortunately are not given that opportunity unless their kid is a great athlete. I am one of those parents and when I looked into it, I was offered very little in assistance. By the way, I am a low-income single parent.
  6. How does a catholic school get so many public school kids? Trinity does the same thing. It seems winning has become the main focus of these high schools. I'm not saying it doesn't go on elsewhere, but when you are providing "scholarships" to high schoolers, something seems wrong to me. I'd be willing to bet these "scholarships" would not be offered so liberally if they couldn't dribble or shoot a basketball or in Trinity's case, football as well. IMO

  8. Male seems to be considered the #1 team in the state or at least #2 along with Etown. The CJ seemed to have mostly local teams attend which makes sense. But how many Louisville teams do you think will be in the top 20 in the state? If all the teams that have been mentioned are competitive with Male, should be an interesting year in Louisville. Are there any teams that weren't mentioned going to compete in the region? I know CAL's coach and I believe they were pretty competitive last year.
  9. I personally think Perry will do a great job at CAL. It is my understanding that the previous coach had been fired from 2 previous head coaching positions before they hired her at CAL. I'm not sure why they made the hire in the first place if that is true. The AD that hired her also left right after he made the hire, (I'm not sure if he was fired or not) and possibly the new AD wanted his/her person in the position. I was told they were very competitive over the summer so I would agree with PTB that they could shock some teams.
  10. Recruiting kids at the HS level has been going on for years but not to the level we are seeing now. It's unfortunate that winning is the most important thing for the coaches ego's and they are willing to alienate the kids who genuinely want to go to a particular school for reasons other than just sports.
  11. I think Chris is the guy who started Team Shively. If it's who I'm thinking of, he has a lot of connections in the west end. Really good guy from everything I've heard. His Team Shively team is loaded with talent and if he can get some of those kids in Holy Cross, look out!
  12. I'm not familiar with Jerry Tubb or Olivia Moore. I've heard of Schnell but I can't speak to his coaching. Perry White coached my daughter a few years ago and she loves him. He was great with the girls and my daughters team always played hard for him. I think CAL made a good hire. JMO
