  1. 1981 team was 9-2. Best record for the Colonels for a long time and best under Coach Ray. Conner was the nemesis back then. Coaches new it. They pulled out all the stops to get the team ready. After pre-game warm up (game was at Conner), the team went into the locker room and found new blue pants waiting for every member of the team. Team went nuts! Unfortunately, not enough to overcome Conner that year. 2 losses were to Conner and NewCath.
  2. Both games are now scheduled to be played at CovCath on Friday evening at 7p. Original schedule had the Scott County game at Dixie but it was moved back to CCH when the decision to keep the lights for the remainder of the year was made.
  3. First round of PKs were taken by Stegman, Thelen, Kiely, Strange and Flesch. The match was won in the first set of the second round. That kick was made by Jordahl.
  4. Since Decker pitches, Krumps has the good sense to not play him at catcher the day after he pitches. Therefore, Kennedy catches when Decker pitches and also on the day after Decker pitches. Kennedy has great tools and a super arm. Colonels Coach Mohr is working with him on his footwork and blocking skills.
  5. Decker Schwartz pitched a gem last evening as the Colonels travelled to Harrison High School and held on to beat the Wildcats. Defense was rather shaky for both teams. France, Piccirillo, and McGuiness continue to have hot bats for the Colonels. McGuiness had a double and a triple.
  6. There are 3 senior pitchers currently in the rotation Cam, Decker and Dave Armstrong. All 3 have pitched well. Dave had probably been the most consistent and is currently 4-0. Cam started against Highlands on Wednesday which may put him a little ahead of the other two from the 'must win' perspective; however, it was also his turn in the rotation.
  7. Decker Schwartz took the mound for the Colonels last evening in Park Hills on anther beautiful night for baseball. The Colonels were led at the plate by Will Heppler (2 hits) and Nick Stegman (2 hits, 3 RBI).
  8. Kudos to Cam Pitzer for getting out of a bases loaded, 1 run in, no outs jam in the first inning. Great show of determination as he started out very slow but battled to stem what could have been a big inning.
  9. Cold and windy evening at Simon Kenton last evening saw a back and forth battle between the Pioneers and Colonels. 4 or 5 lead changes during the game. Alex McGinnis and Will Heppler started the scoring for the Colonels by going yard in the first inning. Both pitchers battled a constant, cold wind that was blowing right in their face. Both teams were also dealing with cold hands which caused some fielding and throwing errors. The game ended on a Pioneer single to center and a perfect throw from Colonel center fielder Adam Piccirillo to catcher Alex Kennedy to nail what would have been the tying run at the plate.
  10. CovCath continued their winning ways in Park Hills last evening. Stellar defense allowed them to pull out the win as the bats were silenced by the Scott pitcher that kept them off balance. Kudos to Nick Stegman for a bare-handed grab and throw off the pitchers glove to force a runner at first and to Adam Piccirillo for a perfect throw from left to nail a Scott runner at the plate in their only real threat of the night.
  11. David Armstrong pitched 6 scoreless innings of 1 hit baseball. CovCath defense looked very strong topped by shortstop Tyler Langguth's diving catch of a line drive. The Colonels again left a lot of men on base and had a early season baserunning mistake that stopped a big inning from happening.
  12. 3 good innings by CovCath's senior pitcher David Armstrong. CovCath defense was pretty strong. Left a lot of men on base. Good to get the first win of the season.
