I didn't watch this, but I plan on going back to watch it. Sounds like this was a good one to test Highlands' mettle. The Birds come away on the positive side of a good win against a very solid team. They're able to be tested by a strong competitor, make adjustments at halftime, and come out after the half to head home with a strong win. That's a good thing for most any football team. This was a building block for the rest of the Highlands...

Simon Kenton beat Conner 31-12. (19 points). They beat Dixie 55-20 (35 points). Dixie is 0-5 this season and has had like 181 points scored on them this season in 5 games. Does that win prove a point for you?

So Cooper was without their starting QB who is pretty much their #1 offensive player in Simon Kenton's biggest win of the season. Noted.

Look, we all know you're a spin-doctor for Simon Kenton sports. If Simon Kenton wins their first game huge, then Simon Kenton is "coming out strong". If they play like crap in their first game, then it's "well who plays strong in their first game anyway?". It gets old. Simon Kenton is playing okay and is 5-0 against their perennially mediocre schedule. Fact is, Simon Kenton was being stroked by Meade County in the 1st half of their game, and...

You mean the SK team that barely beat Meade County by 1 point...the same Meade County team that just lost 17-14 to a 4A team? I don't think your definition of "sleeping on a team" is the same as everyone else's.

I think more teams in northern Kentucky don't have winning seasons than teams that do. Boone County 1-2 Carroll County 1-3 Cooper 1-3 Dayton 0-3 Dixie 0-4 Gallatin County 0-4 Grant County 0-1 Holmes 0-3

I saw some wailing and gnashing of teeth about not Trinity being ranked lower in the BGP 6A rankings. Obviously Male gets ranked higher since they beat Trinity. Scott County makes perfect sense too, since they beat Cincinnati Moeller and Trinity lost to Moeller. I'd like to hear some justified arguments for any other teams that people on here think should be ranked above Trinity.

I'm reading lots of posts about gear, but none about the heat index. It was a high of 93 in northern Kentucky on Tuesday, and it's been crazy humid. At 93, it only takes 56% humidity to put the heat index at 105, at which point the KHSAA's heat illness program mandates that teams "stop all outside activity in practice and/or play". Were other teams around the area practicing outside on Tuesday?

The Jumpers will give a good showing in this one, but the Tigers will win this by at least 10, maybe more.

Highlands is the only school on the list with a shot at it. If they don't do it, the streak will end in the playoffs.

Highlands has two wins that they won without issue, plus a home field advantage. I think that's good for 7 points in the Birds' favor. I still think Scott County will win by 17 or so.

Pretty much the truth. Aside from Beechwood, CCH, HHS and maybe NCC (if they get Kelly back), I don't see any teams from NKY making it past the second round of the playoffs if they even make the playoffs at all.

HHS beat a bad Cooper team (which is actually a 5A team playing up in 6A), and they beat Campbell Co. It's tough to justify just how good or bad Campbell Co. is right now. They only have played two games, their loss to Highlands and their win over a really bad Dixie team. Dixie lost to Scott by 7, and Scott was spanked by NCC who turned around and lost to Cooper. I agree that Simon Kenton's two wins aren't gold stars, but neither are...

Wera played at Beechwood. 1A schools have to play iron man football simply as a product of roster size. Cooper is 5A playing in 6A. Shouldn't they have a bigger roster to draw from than Beechwood? Also I'd say d-end is vastly different from an injury standpoint from a return specialist.

I thought I saw in the NCC/Scott recap thread where Kelly left the game with an injury. Anyone know if he's going to be back this week for the New Cath vs. Cooper game? What kind of impact does an injury have on a player's viability for Mr. Football? Does number of games played sway the decision, or is this about total statistical output at the end of the season?

It definitely presents a problem for Klenakis, yes. And if he pleads guilty to the charge, I don't see how UL doesn't can him. I'm happy to see that Bedapudi/Tyra/Petrino placed him on administrative leave as soon as they found out about the arrest on Monday morning. That's a responsible move on their part. I'm assuming we'll learn a lot more once the arraignment occurs, if Klenakis hasn't parted ways already. He has already told the Courier...

Based on Dr. Bendapudi's recent actions and on the fact that Jurich is no longer around to pull strings behind the scene, if the coach pleads guilty, I think he'll be out on his keister the same day.

I know there are some Mr. Football winners who made some NFL practice squads but never made it onto a final roster (Derek Homer, Micah Johnson & Douglas Beaumont for example) but looking on the Wikipedia page for the Mr. Football award: 1987 - Kurt Barber played in the NFL from 92-97 1988 - Jeff Brohm played in the NFL from 94-00 1994 - Shaun Alexander played in the NFL from 00-08 1995 - Tim Couch played in the NFL from 99-07 1997 -...

I'm assuming you're saying that you think Dixie needs to look at other options for head coaching? I think if you look at things on the whole, the overall success of athletic programs as far as competitiveness for state championships is not a huge priority for Kenton County Public Schools. I'm not going to go through and look at all sports across the board for the last 15 or 20 years, but aside from Simon Kenton's football, baseball and softball...

From the NKY power rankings: I said Scott's football program is vastly improved, and I'd call that pretty vastly improved. In that same 6 year time period, which is the entirety of Coach Brossart's tenure as head coach, Dixie has had 36 wins - although it's definitely worth noting the trip to the 6A finals in 2014. I didn't necessarily mean that kids are looking for a "football future" with Scott, but when there's open enrollment in...
