  1. As soon as Chuck came back I feel like most people felt this was going to happen. Both are waiting to hit that full retirement year and try for another title in the process. I don't blame him especially if some of what I've heard about SOME parents and administrators at Mercer is true. Obviously Jerry is not going anywhere. Anybody think Marty would take it if it were offered? Who do y'all honestly think they will go after and who do you think will apply?
  2. I completely agree with all of that. No doubt those 3 could help for sure but Spenc is right where he belongs in the fall on that golf course. Kids could do both but when you're as good as he is I understand that. Another example of not having to play just one sport all year to be great at it. He was tough back in 4th, 5th and 6th grade though when he did play as were Trevin and Mathew who played a little longer. Great points about who some of these younger kids belong to and more importantly understanding the tradition. This State Championship slump has hurt the understanding of tradition because these kids never watched Danville win a state title like we did growing up.
  3. yes as Ive said Im more than well aware you have to have athletes and coach them thats sort of the whole point. Like I said you cant coach now without people coming down on him. Its not an excuse its a fact. What Clay has said himself is he needs more kids out playing on top of what he has. Clearly Ive said multiple times that we don't have the same talent we had in the 80's and 90's but do have some talent not playing which regardless what you think is true. "Make do with what you have" is what Danville always has done in good and bad seasons which I also said and is why we did make the semis in 2010. Had a lot of kids play that year and one very talented running back. Actually the 6th grade and elementary level does have some good talent which is why I also said it will be at least 5 years before we see a huge difference again. So again Im not sure what facts Im not facing I just pointed out its not done for good Danville will get back but obviously will never be what they were. Just curious what job do you have in the Danville schools that you know each and every kid and their athletic abilities so well?
  4. YES lol, the line was small. A lot of what Im talking about would be lineman or linebackers. As far as skill players go no real studs but a few kids I see in there on Fridays and Tuesdays setting up the gym, they are quick and athletic but have no interest in playing anything. Like I said we will never be what we were I know that but having more kids always has potential to help.
  5. What facts exactly do you want me to face?
  6. Yes there are some up there that could help. Also there are always a few that play just one sport which also didn't happen much in the past. Not making any excuses just stating facts. As far as their names I see them in the halls or being real athletic in gym class but if they don't play a sport or aren't on the academic or forensics team chances of me knowing them are slim but it doesn't take an NFL scout to see if a kid could help out your team or not.Still though that's just one thing that could help out especially in 2A and other schools closer to our size. As far as compared to past talent well no not even close and that could be said for a lot of sports at a lot of schools.
  7. First off thats an awesome list and like you said it could be added onto. I agree with pretty much all of waht youve said. No I do not think there is that type of talent at Danville now or anywhere in this area period. The point I was trying to make was that there are lots of kids with talent not playing. Would they make teams comparable to these guys? Not a chance. However it would make us a lot better in 2A. I see them up there weekly and they just wont play. As far as coaching is concerned I feel comfortable saying I probably know more than most about whats going on there and I dont put much blame on them at all. They are doing what they can and then some. The weight room is totally renovated and they use it all the time. As you said people arent giving Clay the same as they did Harp and its not right. Do I agree with every play he called? No but thats any fan but I also know hes a whole lot better than I ever would be. Harp stayed a little too long thats obvious. Clay is involved all the way down to the youngest youth league team and wants to get this program back where it can be. I doubt it ever will get back to where it was and thats just the facts. Yes it is true we used to have administrators that were 100% behind the athletics and now they are not which does hurt. Those days were awesome though and did it all without controversy or any of that mess. Just pure talent that went out and won.
  8. Yeah I mean I agree with that to a point for sure. It all starts at the top. I said a lot of foul language this year watching all the arm tackles and missed tackles. We used to have teams not want to run against us at all and its so frustrating because I remember the good days well. When this same group was in Bate and freshman they were so physically dominant I dont know what happened, well I have some theories. Its like girls basketball parents now, not all of course, but when these coaches try to toughen them up or get on them they go and cry. Currently we have a principal that will not back the coaches when they do and its pitiful.
  9. Totally agree with that. Back When Danville ran this area the best athletes were on the field at all times period. I didnt mean to sound like we didnt have talent this year because we did and should have gone a lot deeper than we did. Just have a lot worried about being cool everyday at 3:30 instead of playing football. While the game has changed Danville still needs to run the ball some period.
  10. Talent is there they just wont play. Has nothing to do with coaches either just have a lot of kids that are capable but not interested or think at 5foot nothing they are basketball all stars. They have potential and what could be one of our biggest line ever in a few years but who knows. Take the 8th grade class this year. Lost the 3 best skill players all to transferring out of state. A school with so few male athletes to start with it kills you. I do think 4 or 5 years from now the Ads will be great but it will take some serious hard work to be what is acceptable at Danville in the next few years. Also deal with a lot of parents babying kids now which used to be unheard of at Danville. Mad they have to condition or mad they got punished for doing something stupid. Sadly solving a lot of Danvilles biggest issues are on the parents and the kids. Heart and Pride go a long way. I never count out Danville especially against smaller schools but something does have to give.
  11. Lincoln is tough at home but I like the way its setup. Especially when you factor in they have tons of parking, multiple entrances, 2 concession stands and lots of seating plus the walkway for the media. As far as winning the region goes I would probably still put my money on Lincoln at Lincoln regardless of the statistics of host teams winning. That senior class has played together for 7-8 years now and they have a great coach that doesn't make the same mistake twice. While Boyle did get a big win last Friday Lincoln played awful and BC played awesome the same night. Southwestern is a good team and seeing Lincoln bounce back like that says a lot if you ask me. Conway not only had 34 points after a slow first half but he had 16 boards along with his 34 plus Timmy had 12-10 and could have scored more if he wanted. The 12th is deep this year and I love it
  12. Glad to see Cody Woolridge on here. He played well in the game to give Williamsburg their first loss of the season, given they may have been a little overrated they were by no means a bad team. The Admirals can be a good team and when they play to their full potential are a real good team. Mental errors hurt the Ads as much as anything in losses early in the year but they have cut that out quite a bit and are playing really good ball right now.
  13. He stepped up and did what a great senior leader does. Not only did he score 34 but he did it like he does it every game and that was even more impressive. Always smooth and always classy. When Hagen Tyler gets the ball he is so dangerous. Lincoln also didn't play well, I don't think it would have mattered with Tyler hitting the way he was but they missed a lot of open shots as well. Districts will be exciting this year in Garrards little gym. I also love that the 12th this year has 4 or 5 real good teams and few others that could bring a late season upset. You never know with high school sports and that's the best part.
  14. This game for BC comes down to Hagen Tyler getting more looks and taking more shots. If I remember correctly he only had 7 shots the first time and that just cant happen with one of the best SG in the state. Given Bell scored 35 he gave up some points on defense also. In the last match up Taylor also basically missed the whole 3rd quarter due to fouls and while Bell went on a 7-0 run himself, they also allowed Noah Young to step up and do pretty well in that spot when they had an opportunity to really take advantage of the situation. As far as Lincoln running a zone and not playing man to man I have to revert back to the old saying If it ain't broke, don't fix it. No doubt Boyle has a good team and Lincoln has always been considered one of the toughest gyms to play in around here, BCs gym will be packed and loud Friday also. It is going to be a war but I truly believe the pressure and difference in this game is on Hagen Tyler. Going to be a good one for sure.
