  1. Hebel will have to transition from a 4 point stance to a 2 point stance. With Cain, New, Weyer, and Hebel on offense HHS should be able to pass the ball. With Dougherty and Greene on defense HHS should stop the run.... oh, wrong sport. No doubt HHS will have to get into BB shape and coalesce as a team. I'm certain they will play hard but might be quite a few fouls and errant passes to begin with. Could be a game with the possibility of capturing a few bloopers on video!
  2. Nice analysis. There are a number of others that saw a good amount of time on varsity that should contribute in a large way. Ben Dressman and Ben Ziegler at LB. Luke Lindeman on defense OLB or DE. Connor Welch OLB. I know their are a few others but these players come right to mind. Austin Hergot does have a nice arm and can run and likely will be the favorite to start. He had nice seasons as a freshman and sophomore. While one could argue Hoge showed great promise his junior year in limited duty at QB I don't believe anyone out there could have envisioned the success he had this year! While I truly am not comparing Hoge to Hergot I am saying HHS has a way of preparing "the next man up"..... I've read that somewhere along the way.
  3. Here are a couple of other critical situations that certainly had effect in the first half: 1. OHS punts towards the HHS goal line. The OHS player fields the ball on or very near the 1. He carried the ball into the end zone either by momentum or just running. I'm no rules expert but the officials placed the ball inside the 1. He absolutely didn't stop out of the end zone. I assume it was the correct call if all the punting team has to do is "touch" the ball in play and not establish control while in play. Curious. HHS went on to punt in that possession turning the ball bsck to OHS in great field position. 2. With time winding down in the 2nd quarter, call it approximately 30 seconds, OHS gained about 8'yards on a first down play. The officials Stopped the clock allowing OHS needed seconds, maybe 5 or 6 eventually resulting in their last score of the first half. I am not suggesting this the outcome was overly influenced by this but OHS was certainly the beneficiary of these 2 situations. If the ruling on point 1 is correct I will stand corrected. My final thought is HHS is and was the better team, under no circumstance do I believe OHS was 21 points better as was the result of the first half, but that HHS was better and proved in the second and final half!
  4. Seems you are a very passionate Red Devil fan but somewhat jaded in your thinking. I saw a team play 1/2 of mostly error free football. The same team played the other half not so mistake free. How is it the "better team" lost yet was out scored 28 to 0 in the second half? How is it the "better team" lost when it was very apparent OHS had some success passing when they WANTED to versus when they HAD to? How is it the " better team" lost when the turnovers were equal? You wish the readers to believe that OHS coaches went away from plays that were successful at times yet I do believe HHS made adjustments in the 2nd half if nothing more than saying "enough." I do agree when a team plays not to lose versus to win it changes the dynamic of the game. HHS had been down in previous games, Elder, CC of Miami, and early against Lex Cath yet always came back to make a game of it or win. I have to believe the coaches of OHS did not think HHS could mount such an effort in the 2nd half all the while I think the HHS coaches had faith they would.
  5. Not going to happen. Even if Dixie was full strength I don't believe they play with NCC. NCC has had their starting 5 in place since the start back in October. NCC is overdue to win the region and opening with a win against Dixie starts the process.
  6. I appreciate your passion and support for Cooper. Cooper had a very fine season in 2012 and this year. you are the very definition of a fan. There appears to be no common ground for which you will concede therefore we will agree to disagree.
  7. Seems someone struck a nerve. My read is SFA wasn't critical of the Cooper team but simply saying there are very good teams on both sides of the river and playing traditional powerhouses such as St.X, Elder, etc is no less a challenge than Trinity or other Kentucky schools. I did some quick research on the Jags 2012 season and didn't see too many powerhouse teams other than the loss to BG. No doubt Ryle, Boone, Dixie have good and bad years and to your point the only loss in the regular season was to Connor? A very impressive record with only 2 losses but which of the wins during that season would have been against the powerhouses you reference?
  8. I believe NCC plays Dixie on Tuesday night. While I believe NCC should be the prohibitive favorite it will be interesting to see Dixie in the post BH era. This could/should be the year NCC gets out of the region. I don't believe the football players the team will get in a couple weeks are difference makers but certainly add to the bench strength. That's not to say they can't contribute but it is to say NCC has been fortunate the past few years with having the majority of its key players start practice with the team in October.
  9. I don't see the big deal. Many people are off today and should not be rushed to arrive at kickoff. Anyone near by, Ft. Thomas in particular could run up there at 4. It is highly unlikely it will sell out. I do see a segment of fans, not HHS, attending hoping the Bird's lose so to those I say: Pay your money - the more the merrier! HHS has nothing to prove but many people on BGP believe this is a "down year" for the Birds. I totally disagree, it is a different year, like all years, but season to date I would take Hoge at QB over many of the recent QB's. He is truly a difference maker. Lastly, I will close with the standard, Just Saying, even though I was reprimanded for using that quote!
  10. Far and away the best place to watch a game is Harrison County for BASEBALL! Great setting with the field down below the ring of parking, best food concession stand - grilled steak sandwiches, a very entertaining coach from HC and his strategery, and the home fans turning on their headlights at night shining in the batters eyes.. This is Americana at its finest. So for the Football region finals I believe HHS vs CCH, Dixie vs SK, and even NCC vs Newport have similarities in terms of regular season games. The weather will have some effect but all 3 should be competitive, SK has something to prove not unlike CCH. Likely less hype around the expectations for Newport than any of the other 5. As I Opine you couldn't go wrong with any of the 3. Personally I'm all in for HHS!
  11. I agree with this post yet would add that I believe HHS has a mental edge particularly should CCH get off "on the wrong foot." It will take a very special effort for CCH if early in the game they get down a couple of scores to not fall into the ....here we go again trap.. Conversely I believe HHS cannot rely heavily upon the previous successes as this too could be detrimental to their mindset. My hope is for decent weather, no injuries, good officiating and of course a HHS win! Just sayin.
