With about a month remaining in the regular season, the regional picture is nearly as wide open as it was back in November. Apollo seems to have established themselves as the team to beat the rest of the way, but its a very muddled picture behind them. The region still seems like it will run through the 9th district when all is said and done. Hancock County has a nice record, but they will need to prove they can hang against top contenders in...

Apollo is tough minded and while I think they deserve a spot inside the top 20, their schedule hasn't proved as difficult as some of the teams below them. I would say the games coming up at Evansville Central, vs Bardstown and on the road in Muhlenberg County will tell you if their top 20 ranking is deserved. 15 in a row is pretty impressive no matter how you slice it. I will say I was impressed at how they handled Owensboro Catholic in the...

Interesting results around the region tonight. Catholic owned the game against Hancock start to finish, winning by 15. Edmonson also advanced in the All-A to set up an Aces vs Wildcats final. Feels like Owensboro is starting to emerge and turn the corner as they got a blowout win over Grayson County tonight on the road. Not sure what happened to Ohio vs Barren County, as they got an 11 point win over them in late December but lost by 18...

1.Apollo Eagles(14-1) SAME Apollo won their only game of the week this week against 9th district rival Owensboro Catholic. That moved them to 4-1 in district play, not counting the win over the Aces in the OIT championship game. Hopewell went for 22/9 and Nathan Boyle knocked down 4 long balls and finished with 16 second half points. Point guard Tabor Shadowen, known more for his ability to run the offense, changed the game with 11 big...

Big time win for Owensboro Catholic. They are a tough team to get a read on. 1-4 in the 9th District but 3 wins vs top 25 teams.

Apollo continues to impress. They jumped out to an 11-0 lead and never looked back. Catholic was down by 17 with a little over 2 minutes left and made a furious comeback but Apollo was able to hold off the rally at the free throw line. Hopewell had 21 & Boyle finished with 15, all coming in the second half, including 4 3 pointers. Apollo got a boost from point guard Tabor Shadowen who knocked down 3 3 pointers in the first quarter and really...

As for now, there seems to be a slight gap between #1 Apollo and everyone else. Hancock keeps winning games against lesser competition, and their record is impressive no matter who they have played. There doesn't seem to be much of a gap between #2 and #7-8 . Everyone is beating each other, making it difficult to stack them... 1.Apollo Eagles(13-1) SAME Apollo ran its winning streak to 13 straight this week, with 2 2nd half comeback...

Good to see Apollo in the mix. I thought they may get a look after winning their tournament. We'll see if they can hang in after a tough couple of games this weekend.

1.Apollo Eagles(11-1) SAME Since losing their season opener, Apollo has won 11 straight. This includes a 4-0 run in the OIT and a 3-0 run in their own Holiday tournament. While Hopewell is the leader of the team, Apollo is getting great contributions from its role players like Alex Gray 13/7 & Austin Tyler who took home MVP awards in the Apollo tournament. Nathan Boyle(12ppg) is a great shooter, but has really improved taking the ball off...

Apollo is playing very well. Ive been impressed. Right now they do appear to be the best team in the region, but come tournament time I expect it will be pretty wide open. Everyone on the team seems to know their role and execute it pretty well, plus they have a legit star player in Zach Hopewell. Seems like when the chips are down, he takes over. Not a lot of teams in the region have a guy like that. As for NewCath, just watching them...

DC is a scrappy group that plays extremely hard for Coach Hayden. Seems like they have been in every game right down to the wire. They don't really have a star player but they play very good team basketball. Nice win.

Nice win tonight for Apollo. They are really playing hard for Coach Barker right now, getting nice contributions from everyone they play. I thought their defense won them the game tonight. Zach Hopewell continues to be impressive as he averaged about 20ppg through the 3 game tournament. I thought NewCath would really hurt Apollo with their size, but Apollo's zone made it hard for them to get the ball inside. Eventually the athleticism of...

Muhlenberg bounced back pretty well from that ugly loss to Lexington Catholic to open the week. Solid showing for a pretty good team from the 3rd region.

McFadden picks up player of the game for Warren Central. Potter knocked down 2 big 3's in the last 80 seconds to push Central to the win. Missed FT's nearly cost Central the game, as Butler got a clean look from 3 to win but bounced off. Great ballgame.

Both teams were impressive, but at the end of the day NewCath's size really hurt Oldham County. The big guys from NewCath are impressive and they have solid guard play to compliment them.

Its a bit of a down year in the Boro, but Apollo seems to have some potential. I don't know if they can contend with New Cath's size, but im curious to see if they can at least hang with them. If they are knocking down shots, they can be dangerous. Couldn't agree more about needing more posters. Doesn't seem to be much interest in 3rd region hoops around here this season.

I feel like the physical nature of these teams from different areas is giving Apollo a little bit of trouble. Both tonight and last night Apollo missed about 10-12 point blank layups. Credit Cov Holy Cross with contesting every single thing Apollo tried to do. Its been a fun tournament thus far, but Apollo will need a much better effort vs NewCath tomorrow.

Apollo defeated Lou Holy Cross 63-53. It was a very close game throughout. Seemed like Apollo couldn't buy an open bucket through the first 3 quarters. Holy Cross shot it extremely well from the outside and kept the game close. Hopewell continues to be a stud. He didn't play very well and still came away with 23 points.

1.Apollo Eagles(8-1) UP 1 Since losing to Catholic to start the season, the Eagles have won 8 straight games. They were 4-0 last week, as they knocked off Ohio County, OHS, Greenwood and Owensboro Catholic to win the Owensboro Invitational. It seems like everyone who steps on the floor for Apollo is contributing in a positive way. Zach Hopewell(17ppg) led the Eagles to the OIT title, picking up MVP honors for the tournament. Alex Gray...
