  1. Hearsay, you have to let go those CAL-Bardstown games from years past. I see you.
  2. Outstanding win by Desales. Coach Scroggins deserves the game ball. He revitalized the program and brought an infusion of talent with him to Desales. Good luck next week.
  3. Fair point about Wright and Lefors. It is like saying Desales biggest loss from 2013/2014 seasons was No. 11/Quarterback and the rest of the Desales team was just a bunch of average Joes. Not true but people will think what they think. Desales has the much stronger D-line play this year. CAL will have to successfully pass to stay close. I suspect Coach Harold will run the ball 95% of the time unless and until CAL makes a stop. It is good to see Desales back in the game. As Lefors said years ago, unless we beat them it isn't a rivalry. Having lost 5 of the last 6 to CAL, it is time for Desales to make this a rivalry again. Good luck to both teams.
  4. Comment about CAL parents leaving game. I suspect it was the same grumbling that every parent does. Probably sounded a lot like the Boyle County parents when they looked up and saw Corbin 21-Boyle County 0 last year. Catching a beating never feels good. Boyle County is one heck of a team. Good Luck.
  5. Hard to tell about CAL and Desales. For about 4 years in the earlier part of the decade they split the series with Desales winning the important games in the playoffs. CAL has dominated the series in the last three years going 5-1 against the Colts. 2016 and 2017 saw close games. 2018 was not even really close. If Desales is to take back control then ColtPride is right. This is the year. Best of luck to all the teams in 3A.
  6. It was an amazing game. CAL and Mayfield were evenly matched. CAL was more methodical. Mayfield's plays came off mostly big scores. The game was honestly won by the CAL o-line versus the Mayfield d-line. The fact that Mayfield had the ball at their own 44 yard line with only 1:52 remaining in the game and a chance to tie it says it all about how close this game was. The CAL defense came up big and prevented Mayfield from getting a first down. Mayfield is a tradition rich program that ALWAYS finds its way to the final game with limited exceptions. I suspect both CAL and Mayfield are happy CAL is moving to 3A next year.
  7. All that matters for any team is being the best team in your class. Fun to speculate but generally impossible to prove who is the best in the state.
  8. No one takes pride in this matchup Mr. Seymour. It is similar to Trinity v J-town, Mayfield v. any team in the central time zone, St. X v. Fairdale. I could go on. From what I understand Shawnee is moving to 1-A next year and will no longer be in the same district with CAL and Desales, a much needed change. It is a heck lot more difficult to suit up for Shawnee than it is for the CAL, Desales, Trinity, Mayfield and the St. X's of the world. Hopefully, these young men can take something positive from their football experience into life.
  9. Congrats Mayfield. Great venue. Stands packed. Trucks/tailgaters lining one end-zone. Just a really fun atmosphere. And, what a game too. Close until the end. I lost track of the times players patted each other after hard hits and from my view displayed great sportsmanship. Good luck next week Mayfield. You earned it!
  10. Can’t comment on anything said by a coach. I was 20 rows up. If true it is impossible to defend. With regard to celebrating on an opponents field, I personally sat in the stands and watched DeSales celebrate on CAL’s field in 2012, 2013, and 2014. An argument can be made that DeSales taught CAL how to celebrate on an opponents field. Now this post may be met with responses that disagree and talk about how DeSales is the epitome of class and CAL is everything that is wrong in the world and I understand those emotions. We all see what we want to see whether it is through red or orange colored glasses. We think Our team is righteous and our opponents evil, our team plays for the name on the front not on the back of the jersey, our team just wants it more and our opponent doesn’t, our team is a band of brothers and our opponent just a bunch of individuals. The point is that if you look at the history of posts on this site you can always tell who lost the game by the tone. Negative posts almost never happen after wins. It is usually the pain of defeat that stirs the negative post emotions. Good luck to DeSales. Great coach, great program, great players, and yes, Great fans. No matter how much we may deny it the players of DeSales and CAL are a whole lot more alike than they are different. So are the fans. We as fans, me included, should do a better job leading by example.
  11. Good point. I suspect that all of us from Ashland to Mayfiled, Middlesboro to Owensboro, Louisville to Bowling Green, and all points in between need to remember it’s just a game. We can all do better in handling defeat with dignity and victory with graciousness.
  12. The scores suggest there is not much difference between the two quarterbacks. Desales will be strong no matter who is behind center. Good luck to both teams. No injuries. Happy fans. Good weather. And Great football.
