  1. Not sure on the rules on calling a PK with the handling call but the foul in overtime was horrible. Not to take anything away from Ryle it was a good back and forth game. It was 50/50 ball and the Ryle player went down and the St Henry player did not. Those 50/50 balls happened all night with no calls and the center decides the game with that one. Just my opinion. Games this important shouldn't be decided on a 50/50 call. If you going to make that call and give a PK it should be obvious. Didn't see it with that one.
  2. This always drives me crazy. Kids that have no intention on going to the high school but want to play as an 8th grader because they either are not good enough to make the team or the other school doesn't ask middle school kids. Then their freshman year they go to the other school. Don't use the one schools resources and money for a year and decide not to go. Those kids are paying tuition to the high school for that 8th grade year.
  3. Can anyone offer up some suggestions for a spring AAU boys 6th grade league? I know of SOAS and NBN but was looking for other options. Any help would be great.
  4. Do they use a ref service for their tournament or parents or other volunteers? We've played in a few that just get anyone to ref and they are usually horrible. At the Crusader Classic we use a ref service and most of the guys we get do most of the high school games in the area.
  5. I still think there were more than 6. I think is was closer to 10 than 6. The whole incident happened after the ball rolled around in front of the goal and a St. Henry player missed at clearing it and by that time I do believe there were more than just the back line and a couple Cooper players. Really doesn't matter. My point was that he wouldn't have just tapped into the goal so yes he could have had a thought to go down and try and get a penalty. To say that these players don't think that is crazy. I see that at U12 club ball. You see it at the professional level all the time and most kids emulate what they see anymore. In the end it was a good game. Congratulations to both teams.
  6. Sorry. From a non rule knowing person what would determine the direct vs indirect kicks?
  7. The problem is there were about 10 t0 15 players between him and the goal so it would have been hard but not impossible for him to score without someone getting to him. That's why i think he may have over exaggerated the fall. Here is a rules question. I have been to games where a ref will call a foul in the box and only reward a free kick not a PK. What is the difference in contact in those cases verses the ones that are given PK's. This is a serious question because when i see that I'm confused.
  8. In my opinion I thought he did separate himself then went down. I didn't feel he went down because of the contact. Felt like I was watching a BPL game.:lol2: It's only my option which really means nothing as far as the game goes. I'm sure others saw it differently. I'm by no means a ref or coach so others know more than I.
  9. On the Snow PK in first half both players were going for the ball and Snow took a couple steps away from the St. Henry player and took a really nice dive. I seen players get hit all game worse than that. From what i seen he was laid straight out above the ground like he was diving for a fly ball (just to give a visual). Where the players banging yes, but do i think it was worth a PK. Not in my eyes. Don't know anything about the center. I think it shouldn't have been called in ths case in the box.
  10. Just a question out to you soccer pros and coaches. I've been around soccer long enough to know what I'm watching but not a coach. What age should clubs start tactical training? My son is U12 and on one of the top 2 teams in his club at his age and it seems when we play Cincy clubs they are always good games and usually within 1 goal difference. It just seems like we are always chasing the ball and unorganized compared to these teams. I've been to some of the practices and they do a few foot skills and play small sided games most the time. He has been with the club since he was 7 and loved every minute of it but i thought by this point they would start working on these things. The other question is should the second team be taught anything less than the top team? We choose not to be on the top team because of money and time issues even though he has been ask multiple times to come up. I would think the teaching philosophy would be the same regardless if you are the top or low team in an age group.Maybe I'm way off but that's the way i thought it would be. Not complaining about the club at all just wondering.
  11. I agree. If you're getting good training playing non Pro or Academy then why would you. I was always told the training is the same but with Pro you get another practice day and another tournament and the paid coach. Sounds crazy at 10 years old. Like so many have said on here before people can do whatever they want and that is their prerogative. My sons non pro team has beaten many of those so called Academy teams. That is why i don't think the Pro teams will get much bigger than they are. Not all the best kids are jumping to the pro and academy teams. Just a side note I can't believe how much politics go on in the pro teams with still parents involved with the teams even though they have a paid head coach. Parents shouldn't be involved at all with the team when it comes to coaching or creating the teams.
  12. This is the truth. My son started playing rec soccer and played with school friends and it just happens his friends mom was I think a "C" licensed soccer coach. He was getting great training for $65 i think at the time rec fee. She was great. Unfortunately she was so busy she moved her son to club which left us with another parent that really didn't know soccer. After that we decided to move our son to club which has been good and I can't complain.
  13. When I coached we spent the first hour doing nothing but drills to help those fundamentals become natural to where you did them without thinking. The kids new when they came to practice they new what we were doing every day and didn't waste time. It took a few practice to get into it but I feel it worked great.
  14. I agree to a point. Each is his own. If you want your kid at the age of 8 or 9 do nothing but learn plays than you are correct time is an issue but if your goal is to teach basketball fundamentals then time isn't a issue because that is what you spend you most of your practice time on. My point was to the parent you need to decide to go to a team that cares about winning or learning at this age. There is no one answer that fits all. By no means am I knocking the AAU orgs just some have different goals.
