That is the guy. Lots of talent but... He missed time with a broken leg. Then later he was riding a motorcycle in a parking lot and run it into a curb, flopping the bike and hurting his knee requiring surgery, missing more playing time. I always thought he was just unfortunate and stupid with injuries. Then there was a weird story about him alone in a van in a parking lot. I guess that was the forerunner to what we're hearing about...

Glad for Coach Wynn. I may get to see him in action if the scrimmage between Newport and Boone is still on for August 16, 7 pm, at Boone.

Good for him. I'm sure that is a relief to have the decision made. Now, he can concentrate on his senior season.

Stanley Niceley of Holmes H.S. received the Courage award at the NKY All-Star Football game. His life is a lesson in perseverance and placing value on education. He figured the way out of a poverty and a crime-ridden neighborhood is through education. He earned his academic scholarship to Univ. of Louisville where he plans to major in Business Mgmt and then go on to Dental school. I am sure his family, coaches, and teammates are very proud...

Beechwood has an impressive record. They seem to have talent year-after-year and coaching, well "the proof of the pudding is in the eating." What is the relative strength of their returning classes for this fall? Seniors Juniors Sophomores

I've read the accounts of Easy Company, watched Band of Brothers and found it very compelling. The opening scene of Saving Private Ryan was the most intense movie scene I have watched to that point. It has only been surpassed by a later scene in the same movie of the life and death struggle between a German soldier and a Jewish-American soldier. I was on the edge of my seat from the beginning of the movie through the end. The thought...

Contemplating my navel. It's an innie and echoes profusely when I speak in its general direction. This exercise has actually taught me something. I am not self-originating. I did not come into this world on my own. I am derived from another, actually two others. I am not self-sustaining. I depended on another for sustenance and life itself. First, my mother, then her milk, now the bounty of nature, for food, oxygen, clothing and...

OP: Winners and Losers? Truth is the loser right now. This has become a contest of wills and focus is off the original stated reason for the protest. TAC, The Eagles were "uninvited" to the White House because too few of the team were going to go. Many players refused to go as a protest against Trump's vocal opposition to players kneeling during the anthem. I personally oppose kneeling during the anthem. My opinion really is just my...

I really believe that (the bolded statement). I hoped it would happen in this case. But when he was rehired I thought it was too soon. He needed more time to prove to himself and to others that he had recovered.

Well, past behavior is the best predictor of future behavior. Schmitz was arrested today for DUI and resigns from Newport coaching job. This is sad but it was predictable.

The bolded statement aligns with what Fear is saying. It's the thing we don't talk much about. The correlation between fatherless homes and many social ills is staggering. What has happened to the family since the 60's is an epidemic but somehow in the national conversation on mass shootings and gun violence (and we could throw in poverty, gangs, drugs, and crime in general) this factor seems to be ignored, as if it is not a factor at all.

Nothing like we have seen since the 1960's. The breakdown of the family now is without comparison.

Yes, our culture changed due to the cultural revolution of the 1960's. In the wake of that, some good things have occurred. Many not so good things have occurred. Media reflects the cultural change and is a result of those changes. It even reinforces those changes. The breakdown of family is one factor that contributes to many social ills today.

We agree on the importance of exhausting every resource to improve on what's happening here and that collectively we are using "the fingers in the ears" approach. And, I do not mean to imply the issue raised in your OP is unimportant. I am pointing out that we have yet to answer the one question that will most likely get to the fundamental issues as to why we are having so much gun violence in general and school shootings in particular. ...

I would add to that list "Community Organizer" but the list is relatively short. And to be technical about it, Kim Davis wasn't a protester. She simply refused to do a task at her job that she found to be morally objectionable for which she could have been fired. She was willing to take that risk. A protest is a symbolic action meant to draw attention to another issue other than the action. Her action would be a protest if, let's say,...

You just did. TheGuru's reaction is why the owners came out with the "policy." This effects advertising dollars. The owners felt it necessary to address an action by the players that was causing their customers to watch less NFL. The controversy is threatening the product. ColonelPops, any owner that allows an employee to negatively effect his bottom line isn't much of a businessperson. Said another way: if an employee's protest...

I think this is the real question. My opinion is that we are more likely to find root causes if we compare the United States to itself. What is different now in the United States than in the 1950s when more people had guns but we had less gun violence. There were shooting clubs and shooting sports at the high school, yet no mass shootings at high schools. What has occurred over that time period that contributed to the increase in...

Of course. We had a bunch of things to vote on. Why? How is it different than voting in a library or a school or a Grange Hall? You could say the library or school is a government owned building but a Grange Hall isn't. What is it about a church building that contributed to the way you felt about it?
