Yes, our culture changed due to the cultural revolution of the 1960's. In the wake of that, some good things have occurred. Many not so good things have occurred. Media reflects the cultural change and is a result of those changes. It even reinforces those changes. The breakdown of family is one factor that contributes to many social ills today.

We agree on the importance of exhausting every resource to improve on what's happening here and that collectively we are using "the fingers in the ears" approach. And, I do not mean to imply the issue raised in your OP is unimportant. I am pointing out that we have yet to answer the one question that will most likely get to the fundamental issues as to why we are having so much gun violence in general and school shootings in particular. ...

Hey! Isn't his college team called the Rockets? :lol2: If they don't already have fireworks at their games you and Mrs. Fletch can fill a valuable role among parent volunteers at his new school. Just in case you are looking for something to do. I'm always thinking.

I would add to that list "Community Organizer" but the list is relatively short. And to be technical about it, Kim Davis wasn't a protester. She simply refused to do a task at her job that she found to be morally objectionable for which she could have been fired. She was willing to take that risk. A protest is a symbolic action meant to draw attention to another issue other than the action. Her action would be a protest if, let's say,...

You just did. TheGuru's reaction is why the owners came out with the "policy." This effects advertising dollars. The owners felt it necessary to address an action by the players that was causing their customers to watch less NFL. The controversy is threatening the product. ColonelPops, any owner that allows an employee to negatively effect his bottom line isn't much of a businessperson. Said another way: if an employee's protest...

I think this is the real question. My opinion is that we are more likely to find root causes if we compare the United States to itself. What is different now in the United States than in the 1950s when more people had guns but we had less gun violence. There were shooting clubs and shooting sports at the high school, yet no mass shootings at high schools. What has occurred over that time period that contributed to the increase in...

Of course. We had a bunch of things to vote on. Why? How is it different than voting in a library or a school or a Grange Hall? You could say the library or school is a government owned building but a Grange Hall isn't. What is it about a church building that contributed to the way you felt about it?

Florence Freedom is a great game experience. They do a lot of things to get the crowd involved and having a good time. There is a big emphasis on kids. I thought it was very enjoyable. I am not a big follower of the Reds so I don't have that coloring my opinion.

I know two of the victims. A boy and a girl who were sweethearts. They both made it out of the bus alive. She had burns and scars remain. Her voice is a bit gruff due to inhaling smoke or flames. They were later married and wound up in ministry. He, the boy, doesn't particularly care for when the anniversary of the event comes around. Sometimes they are contacted by news outlets for interviews. He really just wants to leave it in the...

Can't argue with you. Most of our vacations has been travelling to see family. We always felt a little guilty for moving away which didn't allow for much time for our kids to be with their grandparents. Last few years we are concentrating on making memories with our kids who are growing up and soon won't be taking vacations with us. So we try to find something where we can be active, enjoy the scenery, find some quiet, and each of our kids...

Putter's Sports Grill in Liberty Twp is one place that didn't get mentioned in this thread. The first time I have ever had wings was there. It is still my favorite, though its been sometime since I was in Putters. Their "hot" is fantastic. Wild Mike's is a close second. QS&L used to have all you can eat on Tuesdays. They don't any more. Me and three of my friends regularly met there on Tuesdays, actually at the various...

I will only speak to who to watch in NKY. And I will mention guys that won't be at the top of the list at their position in the state (though some may). But these all will be guys who will be fun to watch. Of course, this list isn't exhaustive for NKY, just my biased perspective. Mayer from Cov Cath on both sides of the ball. Casey McGuiness from Cov Cath Kyle England RB; Ryle If you like hard-nosed football and thumpers, then...

Find a guy that can play in the middle like Thurza did. Other team had to account for him when running a play. "How we gonna block Thurza?" He also brought toughness in the running game. I can hear the DC of their opponent talking to his players about stopping him when he runs, "Don't run away, square up, and keep low. No, don't run away, gang tackle."

He's following in the path to Monday Night Football of another retired Dallas player (albeit the ESPN cable version instead of ABC network version). Dandy Don Meredith, former Cowboy QB, was color analyst on the original MNF broadcast alongside Howard Cosell beginning in 1970. I fondly remember listening to him, Howard Cosell, and joined later by Frank Gifford. He was a lot of fun.

Sorry for hijacking the thread, esp. since its a thread about one H.S. player's offer. I just thought it interesting how many of the local players were getting offered by Union. It will make them fun to watch later, if several of those players accept the offer and play there. To answer the question, I am more certain about the Boone player, MLB/FB John Mark Shutt. Someone told me they saw a twitter post saying that Lloyd's Travon Mason...

I don't really know about that. It will be near Cooper H.S. and so those kids will probably go to Cooper, but not necessarily. Some kids who were at Camp Ernst, which is farther away from Boone than the new M.S., some how wound up at Boone H.S., so your guess is as good as mind.

This district is drawn weird. I don't get how a kid at RA Jones M.S. winds up at Ryle H.S. and not Boone H.S. Same happened with Jackson Saladin. I was real happy when he and my son played BCPWFL on the same team and thought about the two of them teaming up at Boone. Then his Mom said he would go to Ryle. I know it's legit, but "Dang it!" Oh well, "That's how the ball bounces." Or should I say, "That's how the line is drawn"?

Receiving core: Josh Gordon, Jarvis Landry, Corey Coleman, TE Njoku. They added Callaway in the draft. He is one of the most explosive players in the 2018 draft. RBs: Carlos Hyde, Duke Jonhson, Nick Chubb -- that's a heck of a backfield. QBs: Tyrod Taylor (very accurate, doesn't throw INTs, mobile, Baker Mayfield O-Line: The strength of the team last year. Lost Joe Thomas. He will be hard to replace. They picked up a very good...

Can someone provide us with some insight into the 2018 Cooper baseball team? A quick glance at KHSAA tells me they have 12 wins and 5 losses. Who are their top pitchers? Who are their top fielders? Top batters? etc. Is there any regularity to the batting order? If so, who usually bats lead-off and clean-up? Tell us something about the team and its chances in post season. Thanks.

I recall an article in the Enquirer years ago that said the same thing. A local orthopedic surgeon said they are seeing injuries in young people that they only used to see in athletes beyond high school. If memory serves me, I believe an example he gave was of Tommy John surgeries. His larger point was that the repeated use of the same muscles, joints, tendons, and ligaments, in the same way year-round wears them out. He said this wasn't a...
