Yeah, my track coach believed in making the "Weight Men" from each school run a relay race after the official meet was over. We'd line up and run a 4x100 relay with 4 throwers from your team. I tried to make myself scarce at the end of the meets so he'd choose someone else to run.

Shout out to the "weight men" (an old school term used by my high school track coach. Did I mention I was in high school just after the first year of the modern Olympic games?). It really is heartbreaking for all the spring sport athletes and especially the seniors.

This is an impressive list of athletes. That's some God-given physical attributes and talent. If they can put that together with strong effort, character, and skilled guidance from their coaches the future is indeed bright for these young men.

My daughter is working at a grocery store. They decided to give their employees a $2 temporary raise because of the increased risk of contracting the Coronavirus. My son received the same for working at one of those big warehouse stores. His company called it "Hazard Pay". My daughter's company called it "Hero Pay." :ohbrother: She wants me to get her a cape.

    1. My daughter returned from Singapore five weeks early and made it beyond 14 days with no fever or other symptoms. 2. She flew from Singapore to Tokyo to Toronto to Cincinnati on Air Canada and arrived home one week before Canada shut down the border with the US. We made the right decision at the right time. 3. She was able to exchange her original ticket which routed her through South Korea 5 weeks later for the ticket that...

I'll bet that was a thrill for her mcpappa and mcmomma. You are right, Danny Boy has to be on any list of Irish songs. I remember listening to a Barbershop quartet do an arrangement of this song at a contest. When they hit the tag (usually the last measure or two of the song), the hair on my arm was standing up and goose bumps. So, amazingly beautiful and touching. Music can speak to our hearts like few other mediums. And the Irish...

This is why I said earlier in the thread that I thought the jump to NAIA would help TMU in recruiting the local area. They will be able to get some of the better athletes who would have looked elsewhere because they can get some money to play at an NAIA school or D2. While TMU always wound up with a bunch of local players, I think the caliber of player who stays near home will elevate a little because of the existence of scholarship money. I...

I agree with all of this except your likening the Mid-South to the SEC. I think that title belongs to the Mid-States Football Association. They boast the most NAIA champs over the past 10-15 years. Though, Lindsey Wilson did do very well this year, losing to the top MSFA team (Marian) in the playoffs by a score of 34-24. Then Marian lost in the championship game by 2 points.

I am not a Jazz expert by any means. I only occasionally listen to what I call "hardcore" Jazz. But I was once exposed to Joe Pass as the "greatest" Jazz guitarist and I am always amazed at his virtuosity. Here's a sample of Joe Pass playing with piano great Oscar Peterson. I don't know how it could get any better than this. They are such impeccable soloists, and yet they play together so magnificently, giving room for improvisation while...

Thanks for playing, mcpapa. And I love your entry. This is authentic Irish art. My two entries are Irish songs sung utilizing an American art form, so inathentic. For a few years, I participated in a benefit concert/Irish event held around St. Patty's Day at Xavier University. It's purpose was to raise money for a certain Catholic charity in Central or South America. The format was basically all things Irish art forms. This...

I found a great article on Tom Thacker from Covington. Quite an accomplished man during an era when a lot was against him. He's accomplished something no one else has done. He won championships in the NCAA, ABA, NBA, and the Continental League. Mr. Thacker earned his Bachelor's and Master's Degrees from UC and became UC's first African-American head coach (women's basketball in 1974-77). Then became a teacher in the Cincinnati school...

:lol2: Yep, Runnerup both season to the Cincinnati Bearcats. It doesn't hurt me to say it. Can someone tell me who were the top players for the Bearcats those seasons? The Big O was already in the NBA (in Cincinnati).
