  1. I never have a problem with cheering...taunting is different. Can we all just move on now. As has been shown in previous posts, the matter has been shown to be addressed. Why people on this board feel that they are due a detailed account of what a player's parents or coaches have said or done to address a situation is mystifying! Get over yourselves...you are not that important! It is a private matter between the parties involved. Even when presented with evidence that an issue is being addressed it isn't enough. I am done with posting anything on here. It has become too frustrating. A reasonable man has to recognize an unreasonable situation and move on. It's been good exchanging opinions and thoughts with some of you, but I am out.
  2. You and I are owed no explanation or details of any discipline that may have taken place. We are not his coach or parents. I do not condone either his behavior if it happened as described or the behavior of anyone taunting him and I assume that he regrets doing it. In the heat of a game, you do things sometimes that you regret especially when people are taunting you. You were neither there nor did you know of what is said to have happened until you read about it here and yet you are in an uproar over something that doesn't even impact you. You, as you mentioned, don't have a dog in this fight, but yet you insist on being in this middle of it and stirring it up. I don't think that anyone condones the behavior described, but we allow those involved in the matter to handle the matter. There has already been evidence presented that an apology was given to one party. What more do you need and why do you think that you deserve to be any part of this? The matter is obviously being addressed in some way, shape or form. I am sure that the person who posted that he apologized thought that he was helping to appease the masses thirst for a pound of flesh, but I guess that they didn't realize what a grudge someone who wasn't there, doesn't have a player on either team, or any affiliation with either school could carry. Get over it already. It is apparently being addressed and was addressed promptly.
  3. Looks like we are going to have to agree to disagree on this one. I certainly did not see what you allege to have seen at the game and I was watching every bit of the game. I truly doubt that this happened the way that you are saying it unfolded and the excuse making for fans taunting players baffles me.
  4. I was at the game. I saw players from SH trying to get the SH fans to be more vocal...CHEERING for them. In no way did they try to get them to taunt or do anything of that sort. Everyone sitting down in the lower bleachers was not from Cov Cath. You may not know it, but there is a PRIEST sitting with the SH student section and cheering along. At no point did I see a SH player taunting the Cov Cath fans. There is no argument that heckling a high school student/athlete is anything but unacceptable. I am not sure how you can be offended by the actions of one and not the other. While something may not be uncommon, it also does not make it correct. Just as I said that his reaction to their taunts was not correct, I don't excuse the taunting either whether it be from students or parents.
  5. I agree with you that this behavior is unacceptable, but do you also find fans riding a player and his performance acceptable? I want to make sure that I understand where the line is drawn. In my opinion, you are there to cheer for your team and not to harass players on the other team. The players are not being paid for this. The price of admission does not entitle you to verbally abuse the players. If you want to discuss sportsmanship and criticize a player for reacting to harassment from people on the sidelines, then shouldn't you also criticize those who are there only as observers and taunting the players as well? Where is the moral stand on this? By no means am I excusing the behavior if it did happen, but where is the outrage against the instigator? Go to the games and cheer for your team. Don't harass the opponent's players...show some class and sportsmanship. You demand it of the player, how about demanding it of the fans as well.
  6. Prediction of rain tomorrow could make things more interesting on a grass field. St. Henry has played the top teams in the state close in their meetings and their scheduled game with Dunbar was called off due to weather. I am hopeful, but realistic. Then again, I never thought that they would get this far. This team is not the same team that played the first ten games of the season. Hopefully the slips on the wet grass work in St. Henry's favor tomorrow. Go Cru!
  7. All-Regional Tournament team was as follows from what I have seen. I apologize if anyone is omitted or names misspelled. Chris O'Brien Cooper Dylan Crowe. Dixie Ryan Zurborg. Holy Cross Ben Seiter. Highlands Patrick Louis. NCC Seth Freppon. NCC Brett Mayberry. Boone Co Dane Thamann. Boone Co Patrick Ballow. CCH Parker Kenney. CCH Michael Wessels. CCH Logan Dehner. St Henry Nathan Meyers. St Henry Alex Green. St Henry Calvin Neltner. St Henry (tourney MVP) Congrats to all who were named. It was an outstanding tournament and probably would yield a different outcome every time, if they replayed the whole tournament over five times. So many good teams this year.
  8. There was little to no wind last night. Cru missed their share of opportunities as well. Let's not diminish the effort and hard work done by each team last night. It was a great game...someone had to win and someone had to lose. Each team gave it everything they had. Don't rub salt in the players wounds or try to make excuses for why your team should have won. The game was played and a result was achieved. Congrats to both teams on a great season.
  9. I don't think anyone got cheated tonight for entertainment. What a back and forth game. Looked like Cov Cath was going to walk away with it in the first half. St Henry boys could have felt beaten at multiple times in the game and just kept coming back. I am sure that Cov Cath will be back strong next year with a team that is even stronger. They played hard, but could not put it away. Congrats Cru on an incredible comeback and an amazing turnaround to their season. A month ago this would have seemed impossible.
  10. Excellent recap of a hard-fought game. Fortunately for St Henry it ended the way I predicted...blind squirrel. Old Grappler, you are gracious in defeat. The game could have gone either direction and was well-played. Boone County has been through a lot this year. They endured and thrived. Always sad to end a season. I have a lot of respect for the way they handled their rough game with Scott earlier in the season. They handled the situation very well and got control of the situation. Congrats on a great season and good luck in the future.
  11. I think that I am going with the same score from earlier in the year, 2-1 St. Henry. I know that Boone was missing some players from that game, but St. Henry wasn't exactly on top of their game at that point in the season either. The St. Henry defense has been playing better toward the end of the season and the offense is finding opportunities to score when they are patient and creative. Win or lose both teams have had good seasons in a Region that is almost impossible to pick a winner with so many even teams. We can only hope that next year is as hotly contested as this one.
  12. The problem was that the off the ball shenanigans had gone on the entire game and gone unnoticed even when right in front of the AR until the card was finally issued. if you watched this off the ball action, it was happening to constantly with the same player instigating the entire time. If this had been addressed earlier in the game, it would have been a better game. The player was clearly initiating contact and grabbing, pulling, elbowing and then flopping when there was any movement. Believe me, I understand that there were fouls on both sides and don't view either team as being a completely innocent party in the committing of fouls. If the game had been played straight up, I would understand that they were just trying hard and not necessarily trying to intentionally hurt or foul.
  13. On a lighter note, I can't believe that no one has mentioned the at least 10 point buck that ran along the fence 15 feet behind the benches during the game! It provided a nice distraction to the game. He didn't look too happy to have stumbled across a Soccer game.
  14. I don't think that there was a huge uproar over the play on the ball last night by HC. Granted there were plenty of fouls committed, but I've seen worse. The ref was letting them play and the players were pushing the limits to see what they could get away with. It was the antics away from the ball all night. It was completely unnecessary to create a wrestling match on the opposite side of the field. I will admit that it didn't seem to be the whole team engaging in this activity which leads me to believe that it could have been easily addressed. Good luck to the HC players next season and, again, that was a beautiful save last night by their keeper.
  15. You are correct that both teams committed fouls tonight, but it was apparent that there was at least one player on the team whose only goal was to grab, hold, elbow, and hit in the ribs the entire night. His goal was only to try to bait players into reacting, then flopping to get a card thrown. This is not Soccer. The fact that it took the referee and AR so long to realize what was going on the entire game is amazing! The fact that the coach did not correct it shows me that he either encouraged it or refused to acknowledge it. He can't be unaware of his team's reputation. Those teams end up having difficulty scheduling games in the future as no one wants to subject their players to this. Just play the game and if you lose playing the game the way it is supposed to be played, you can at least know that you played hard. On a positive note, that was a beautiful save by the HC keeper midway through the second half when he laid out to deflect a sure goal away.
