  1. Beechwood literally threw it away. But Beechwood pitchers throttled the best the Admirals had to offer. No Danville HRs, and only one shot came close.
  2. Anybody know the backstory behind CBS broadcaster Jim Nantz's shoutout to the Beechwood Tigers and Coach Noel Rash during the national telecast of the Bengals-Dolphins game Thursday night? Quite a coup for the Tigers, and Rash.
  3. Purpose of the playoffs is to identify state champions from among the top regular-season teams. Including teams with losing regular season records in the playoffs does not contribute to that objective, and diminishes the significance of regular-season success.
  4. Very hard for underclassmen, no matter how talented, to keep their cool in postseason play. Beechwood's 2006 state runner-up team was almost all seniors, and they kept their cool throughout their entire postseason run.
  5. Beechwood fan here. Watched game last night from near CovCath bench and behind home plate. Four points: 1. CovCath bench was noisy and spirited at key points of the game (i.e., 3rd, 6th and 7th). Beechwood bench only sporadically into it. What was said was probably not of consequence. None of Beechwood players or fans in stands seemed bothered. It was just a high-pressure game involving two tough rivals. 2. Stringer could not make good pitches when he needed to, although defense didn't help. That was difference in the game. 3. Coach Krump was given great leeway by umps with extended visits to mound and conferences with umps. Beechwood coaches largely stayed in dugout. Probably helped disrupt flow of game. 4. Neither team played particularly well. CovCath runner who tried to score on passed ball in 6th could have cost his team the game if Beechwood had scored in 7th. Dropped foul fly balls were critical.
