Had an extensive and somewhat surprising conversation with 9th Region ump last week about his strike zone. He emphatically said the important thing was "be consistent" for both pitchers the entire game, despite the situation. Sounds good until we discussed further the width of his strike zone. In high school ball, his is just inside batter's box line to batter's box line. If it touches white, it is a ball! Now I understand why umps can...

Look at Harrison Co. this year. After beating Nicholas Co. 38 consecutive times and winning 14 District Championships in a row, while defeating Nicholas twice this year by combined scores of 17-3, the Bluejackets defeat the Thorobreds 9-5 in Championship game and pound the ball all night. At least both teams move on. Survive and advance!

Harrison Co. loses first District Championship in 14 years. Nicholas Co. scores 4 in top of 9th on a monster grandslam homer (sorry don't know players) to left center at the Hilltop. NC loaded the bases on two grounball errors, and an intentional walk with no outs. Homer to leftcenter was a first pitch fastball.

Thanks, mcpapa. Went through Maxpreps link to Rieherds and found lots of teams with stats. Good stuff!

I must be stupid. On Bracken I find no stats posted and on EC the same. I am linking with Rieherds Scoreboard thru BGP.

Mcpapa, how do I link to this on other games? Awesome! When I go to Riherds, it just shows no stats.

Thought Morehead was not D1 in football. Thought they were in non-scholarship status.

16th Region mid-pack East Carter extends their record to 17-12 with 11 runs in top of 6th and 7th to comeback from a 5-3 deficit. Bracken, a mid-pack 10th Region team, drops to 16-11. Story of the game was the tiring of the Polar Bears starting pitcher as his pitch count reached close to the limit in top of 6th (walks, balks, and defensive miscues aided EC's offensive production). Wind was blowing out on the short fences aiding three homeruns...

Wow! In looking at the Morehead roster, the cupboard is beyond bare with returnees. This could be a real opportunity for AC to prove what he can do. Much better chance to see the floor than the NKU walk-on rumors. IMO looks like he did his homework well and MSU will give him best chance to see if D1 is the right fit.

Talked casually with two of the ADs, both said a special meeting with the Commissioner was never part of this routine spring meeting which happens annually to take care of normal spring sports considerations. Perhaps all the chirping on this thread might have been unfounded speculation?

I really like the status of this Polar Bear program. Coach Sizemore left this program with a full cupboard on both offense and defense. If the new Coach can create some semblance of a passing game to keep opponents from stacking the box, the Bears will have their best offense in program history. Just as critical will be their kicking game. Last year it was a weakness that created problems almost every game. If they can just be mediocre on...

Can you share your source for this conclusion? Could not find it myself.

Got to say, he is an old-style hard-nosed football player. Not super-quick, but able to run over and/or away from most A level defenders. Love to watch his 100% effort on every play, both sides of the ball.

Story of game was dominant pitching performance through 5 innings of Bourbon's Sr. Hunter Clemons, in his 1st start as a pitcher. He struck out 9 while allowing only a 5th inning single and 2 walks. Bourbon scored 2 in first assisted by some shaky fielding from Bracken. From that inning on Bracken's Brady Jones allowed a lot of contact but no run scoring damage. Bracken scored their lone run in 6th on a solo shot to left center by Tanner...

My ace, 40 years ago, was about 5'8" and weighed around 140. Fastball probably topped out in low 70's and the knuckle was his primary pitch (maybe 60% of his pitches). Best athlete on the team was our centerfielder that served as his designated catcher, simply because he was the only one that could catch him. It was a delight to watch him baffle batters from big time programs (Doug Flynn for one) pitch after pitch and then slip his fastball...
