IMO, if a coach has a longterm perspective about his program vs. his immediate next career step, I think you mold quality players from the former high school "me" into the next level "we". It is a transition that takes a coach's conscious, focused time and effort. Brannen appears to have come up short with Williams and Faulkner and both of these guys are quality kids with warrior work ethics. Shortcoming - yes, but both could have been major...

Bellarmine unfortunately had their post season run cut short when they lost 6'7" big man C. Corbett with 7 games left in the season and a back injury to 6'8" All American Adam Eberhardt severly limited his mobility the last two months. Not excuses, just facts and limited depth in most college front lines. The 74-73 NCAA playoff loss to Findlay came on an incidental three shot foul on a desparation corner shot with 0.5 on the clock. Findlay...

Bellarmine finished a strong 29-3 season losing to Findlay in the NCAA II round of 16 by a score of 74-73. Bellarmine posted outstanding team offensive stats, averaging 78.8 ppg while shooting 53% FGs, 40.7% 3FGs, and 77.3% FTs. The program saw 10 players earning 17+ minutes per game, with All American Adam Eberhardt at a high of 28.8 minutes. Coach Davenport plays a high-paced structured offense with a heavy focus on pressure defense holding...

2016 Beechwood grad and star athlete Brett Slusher gets 3 catches, 50 yards for UK in yesterday's spring game. A playmaker extraordinare for the Tigers walked on for the Wildcats last fall (in what I suppose was a redshirt year). I strongly suspect before his career is over, he will be a productive offensive fan favorite. Good size, speed, great route runner, and very good hands. Cats need to get him on the field.

Now I hope Green doesn't bail out looking for less competition for PT. Great article in Herald this morning about how difficult it is/will be for Cal to ever develop experienced depth. Quite the opposite of the Villanova program and how Jay Wright recruits for the longterm and sells it to the players coming in.

Sure hope not. Experienced players that play hard and main goal is winning are possibly the difference that can bridge the margin between Elite 8 and Final 4. i.e. Darius Miller, Josh Harrelson and on and on.

Pretty thought out decision. The ? Of G League compensation seems to be clarified at $26K for him. He appears more focused on he thinks the level of competition and similar motivation of all players makes the optimum development environment for him. My gut reaction is we are going to see a lot of marginal one and dones opt for this route rather than coming back for 2nd year in college.

Will add the returning player has a leg up with years of experience in the system, college training and nourishment environments, and knowledge of what it takes to succeed at the D1 level. The term -"recruited over" sounds like an excuse in advance of results.

Got to admit that I'm getting a little fed up with Billy's inability to bunt or hit a groundball. Either of which give him a strong chance of getting on base and creating offense and defensive disruption. Great glove, arm, and speed. Striking out to walk ratio is an awful 3/1 career average, for a leadoff man. But Lonzo Ball must have the worst offensive shot in the history of NBA point guards. FG% 42%, 3pt% 31%, and FT% 42%. Great...

Every analysis shows that the full contibutions under 12 years of Democratic governors, and 4 years under a Republican governor under funded their share and then the recession hit with as much as a 30-40% loss in the stock market. When you have 70,000 active teachers paying in 12+% of their salary into the system while 50,000 retirees are drawing out roughly 75% of their highest years of earnings, it is blatantly obvious that the system is...

Taught for six years, had a master's degree and coached 2 varsity sports. Left education because I had no desire to go into administration and the salary I was earning ($8,300) meant my wife could not stay home with the kids, which is what we both wanted.

Memory tells me it was more like late 90's. Just rember the uproar which ignored the sustainability and mathematical absurdity and just heard the screams about how unfair it was to take this hard earned benefit away. It was to be the end of teaching as a career choice. The same political "sky is falling" sounds are being trumpeted by KEA leadership while giving a deaf ear to the realities of this broken system. The Ky taxpayers cannot be on...

You know we had a perceived great AD that delegated football and basketball programs to guys that put his career at risk. His decisions hung him, despite a strong track record in most areas. I wonder if the new sheriff in town is going to have a different mind set.

Yes, any everyone of them was irrationally portrayed as the end of the world for our teachers. I.E. teachers can no longer buy five years of credit to their retirements by simply paying into the system what they would have if they worked. The payback to this benefit was beyond absurd, but allowed by poorly informed and irrationally and politically motivated/self serving legislators. All at the expense of the poorly represented and uninformed...

And as a 72 year old former educator, I can tell you 90% of my friends retired before the age of 55 and draw nearly 100% of their pre-retirement take home pay in retirement, plus pay almost nothing for healthcare until medicare kicks in. Forgot to mention over 50% of them have continued in some type of 2nd job, because they are just too young to retire; but, the pension is just too good to pass up. No emotion. Just facts.

Sorry, but I am going to upset many of my teaching friends. The pension system in Ky has never been mathematically sustainable. This system was initiated by a legislature that was financially unsophisticated (keep that term in mind, we will revisit it) and not responsible to the taxpayers in managing over the years. The gaming that has gone by both participants and legislators authorizing and than mirroring tenfold in their own programs has...

Let's not forget, the "one and done" scenario came out of the NBA Players Association resistance to roster spots/salary dollars being absorbed by young guys, not ready but management willing to take a flyer on their future development. Limited dollars and spots being absorbed. Now that the G League has begun to flourish as a true development league, it appears logical that the unions resistance may become a little less selfish (if that is ever...

Maybe I don't have a full handle on the G League, but can someone tell me the benefits of a marginal one and done staying for a second year versus taking the risk of making a G League roster. Would one develop better in a premier college program versus the G League? As I understand, mimimum contract of $75,000 in G League versus the 2nd year college experience. Just asking, cause I am suspecting a lot of non-draftable level players heading...

Article in Herald about how our Sweet 16 is doing in relationship to surrounding states, and other states of comparable size, some single class and some multi-class. Sad thing is "misery loves company" as our decline compares favorably to all states mentioned. Hate it, and have to admit the NFS webcast allowed me to see every game from afar for $10 total and avoiding the horrendous costs of everything. But, and I loudly say BUT, I missed...
