Who can shoot technical free throws? Do they have to be on floor or can you bring a sub from off the bench to shoot? I seem to remember Derek Anderson coming off bench to shoot against Arizona and then going back to bench, just curious as to high school rules.

RCC, good points. I think if an 8th grader can play at the varsity level they probably should move up, Juliette can absolutely play at that level. I am not so sure about moving someone up that's not going to play varsity. Also, I wonder how it is going to effect the girls that are playing ms now, it's going to be a long and difficult year for them.

Ockerman middle lost 3 8th graders to the hs, they had 4 8th graders tryout but have picked up 7 girls who have never played. The 7th grade had 9 tryout and the 6th grade had 9 tryout. Not shambles but moving up players has hurt this program.

No easy answer I guess. Big schools in middle school league are not allowed to move up 6th to 7th or 7th to 8th.I think you should play for the school you go to, but no matter what you do, someone will not be happy I would think if I was a high school coach I would want a strong feeder program but if you take 8th graders to fill out your freshman team, you weaken your middle school teams I do think if an 8th grader can play with the varsity team she should probably do so but when my daughter was a freshman she played varsity and came home telling us some of the seniors were talking about having sex, drinking beer and smoking pot, you have other issues also

OK, so you move 8th graders up to play with the 5 freshman and now the 8th grade team only has 4 players. Now you've just transfreed the problem to the middle school.

I belI've freshman numbers being low is reason some of these middle schoolers are being moved up. Volleyball seems to be more popular also So what's the answer? Should high schools build up their numbers at the expense of the middle schools?

I don't think there is an officially I also policy in boone schools about 8th graders playing up, last year and this year Cooper girls have moved up 8th graders and they have not contributed to varsity. If there is a policy it's certainly not enforced.

Great discussion! I coach one of the boone schools 8th grade girls teams. We only had 4 girls show up to tryout. 3 of our 8th graders are playing on the hs teams. I think if a young lady can play varsity they should probably play up, but two of the girls that were moved up will probably not play varsity. I know freshman numbers are down but now our ms program is hurting. I wish boone would adopt a policy and stick to it.We picked up 4 more girls that have never played before. Going to be an interesting year! Hopefully I can make it fun for all of them
