  1. No not a complaining parent. You see I am different from the parents I refer to in my post. Never went to the Superintendent or BOE or organized a group of parents together to cause problems for the administrator at Ryle. Instead I choose to allow my children to learn the intangible lessons from sports and the politics involved because unfortunately that is how it is going to be in the real world. In the end the administration's leadership or lack of is what affects the atmosphere in the school and the overall experiences of every student in the school. IMO, because of his lack of leadership my children have seen a side of athletics that they should have never seen. As far as an education due to the teachers in the school it could not be better. The new coaches are all great coaches and people and for the sake of the athletes involved I hope they get the support they deserve. They will as long as they keep the parents happy and out of Turner's office. That is my opinion and I base that on what I have witnessed, and my children have witnessed and experienced at Ryle.
  2. Sorry if you misunderstood me. In no way was I hinting the Volleyball Coach should not be at Ryle. She is a great coach and person, has won a lot of games, and most importantly at Ryle has not had a lot of parent issues. Would love for my child to play for her. Made the point to SS because in an earlier post he said Warner was fired because of his losing record the last 2 seasons. You do not fire one coach because of a losing record who was 12-2 won the Region a year before that and keep a coach that has never won a Regional Championship. At Ryle it comes down to who gets along best with the parents and has the less controversy, end of story. The 3 coaches who have remained have done that plus won enough games, IMO.
  3. Never said Dance was a team sport. So to be specific Ryle has lost 5 Head Coaches of Team Sports, 1-2 Dance Coaches, and at least 12 total coaches in the last year. As a Ryle parent who has had to sit in the stands and listen to parents scheme about writing letters, go to the BOE about getting coaches fired, and then see it happen I can speak from experience as to what goes on at Ryle. As a parent who teaches children to respect the coaches, adapt, to the situation, and be a good teammate whether you are playing or not, to see coaches fired because of the selfish personal wants of some is not sour grapes. This is an issue that the innocent should not have to suffer because of. This administration needs to look at what is best for all of the student-athletes and the message they are sending when they fire coaches over the complaints off the loudest, most influential, and obnoxious parents that will not go away. And some of the students do know what their parents are doing. One of my children would come home and tell me how players in class would brag about what their parents were doing to a certain coach and how they were trying to get the coach fired. If it is true that what went on that caused the Dance Teacher/Coach to leave Ryle falls right in line when some things happen at Ryle when there is controversy with students and parents.
  4. In Individual sports, every thing is objective so what can a parent complain about when it comes to playing time. You play #3 in doubles because in practice the #2 double team beat you, and you are ranked #1 because you beat everyone else in practice that simple. You run this event in track because your time is the best or your jump is the highest or farthest. In wrestling, you beat the other 103 wrestler so you are Varsity he is JV. In Golf pretty simple who has the lowest rounds. In team sports it comes down to lots of intangibles and subjective opinions of coaches as to who he believes should play. Never do all parents agree with how their child is being used within the team concept or how much he is playing. Now add in the difference in opinion in the X's and o's and strategy and you have complaining parents. Every school has them, yes. However, can not think of any school that has lost over 12 coaches and at least 6 Head Coaches in one year because of complaints from parents. There are 3 Head Team Sport Coaches that survived at Ryle after the last year, Baseball, Volleyball, and Boys Soccer and one of those served a suspension a couple of years ago due to a complaint from parents. Obviously, coaching at Ryle does not seem to be an easy thing to do and there seems to be a common denominator.
  5. Those are all coaches of individual sports!! Totally different dynamic coaching a team sport and a individual sport. Parents can not complain about playing time in an individual sport . PT and their child's place within the sport or event comes down to a time in track, score in golf, one on one competition in practice such as in wrestling and tennis. In a team sport, lots of intangibles and the subjective opinion of a coach. End result lots of parental opinions of where their child should be playing and how much they should be used on a team. Not to mention the X's and O's that everyone knows better. Time will tell how long these new TEAM sport coaches last at Ryle. If they are parent-friendly,are easy going , and are willing to listen to the parents then they might last if they like coaching like that.
  6. The many team coaches ? Actually there are only 3 team coaches left at Ryle after the past year: The baseball coach who has been there since the school has opened and has the AD as his assistant coach. The Volleyball Coach who has been there about 10 years and never won a Regional Championship, and the Boys Soccer Coach who has been very successful in his 9 years. However, I believe he was suspended a couple of years ago due to complaints brought forth by parents.
  7. Glad you are teaching your kids this. Because IMO the message that the students are getting with all the coaching changes due to parental complaints is when things don't go your way you and your parents have the power. Write letters, start a smear campaign against the coach, make accusations and eventually the coach will be fired or quit. Lesson these kids are unfortunately learning is that they do not have to respect authority, and you can get a teacher and coach fired because you do not like them or how they are playing you. Unfortunately, this is carrying over into the school and classrooms as well. One needs only to look at the disrespect that has been shown toward administrators, teachers etc. on social media over the past months.
  8. It is his first year and at Ryle and all are excited about a change just like when Mullins took over for Niemi . When the loses pile up with the thin talent pool Ryle has coming up the pattern will continue at Ryle. At Ryle it is never a lack of talent it is the coaching, or the coach is too hard, being mean to the players, there is a lack of interest, etc. Time will tell but my prediction is young McFarland will be no different than the many team sport coaches that have been run off or quit because of the "toxic atmosphere" at Ryle. I wish McFarland well because he is a great young coach and teacher but at Ryle that does not matter. Make the wrong people mad and the letter writing and meetings begin. It is soon a matter of what have you done for me lately and how well you give in to the parents.
  9. Wow underachieving again this year with a new coach! Is that the new coaches fault too? A weak schedule, 7-9 record, 5 seniors and all of that 'Ryle" talent!! Not to mention a coach that the " Clyde" wrote a recommendation for. Who do we blame now that Mullins is gone?
  10. Are you serious? Were you not on Warner's staff for some of those loses? Like talking numbers huh? How about losing over 12 coaches in one year. Guess all of those coaches had losing records and issues not caused by administration? In one year? All these bad people and coaches that Turner hired. Again, not a very indication of his leadership capabilities if he misjudged that many people when hiring them.

  12. IMO , all one needs to do is look at what has happened at Ryle in the last year within the athletic department to know that there is a problem at Ryle when it comes to leadership. Turner has lost the following Head Coaches this past year: 1. Head Football Coach, 2. Head Boys Basketball Coach, 3. Head Girls Basketball Coach, 4. Head Softball Coach, 5. Head Girls Soccer Coach, 6. 2 Head Dance Coaches. In addition, several assistant coaches were let go or left on their own. It is common knowledge that most of these coaches were let go or left because of parental complaints and a lack of support from Turner. From what I hear in ONE year 7 HEAD coaches and over 12 total coaches are gone. These coaches were all a part of making Ryle a very successful athletic program over the last 6-7 years. In addition, many student-athletes from these programs received scholarships and are still playing today at all levels of collegiate sports. At Ryle, from what I hear it is a common belief among not only the coaches but many teachers that he is controlled by the parents and they know when push comes to shove he will throw them under the bus. You can also look at the teacher turnover rate since he has been principal and there has been many teachers leave. The way he handled the hiring of the football coach is typical for him. Passing out surveys to players/parents asking them what kind of coach they would like to have is a process he has used before. At Ryle, coaches are evaluated by players and parents at the end of the season by surveys. Having parents on a selection committee i believe speaks volumes as to how much influence the parents have on this man. Coaches at Ryle will always be controlled by the parents while he is in charge so it will take a special type of coach to survive there. The fact that he showed Mike Woolf no loyalty who has been on his football staff for over 10 years and has one of the reputations as a great football coach should not surprise anyone. His track record of loyalty and support for his coaches speaks volumes. Hard to argue with that many coaches gone in less than a year . In programs ran by parents all suffer for the selfish wants of a few that have the principals ear. All schools have complaining parents always have, always will. At Ryle the principal allows them to complain and when he has had enough of it about a coach he takes the easy way out and gets rid of the coach. I really believe it is only going to get worse at this school because of what has happened the last year. Parents/players realize all they need to do is get a group together raise enough heck about a coach and he/she is gone.
