  1. I guess coach still had a few tricks up her sleeve that she didn't teach the student....
  2. Great draw for Cooper.....should be a Cooper/NDA final
  3. As a referee at both the high school and club level, and a club coach, there are rules differences between the two. I commend you for wanting to know the rules instead of being that parent that just yells things from the stands, but really doesn't know what they are yelling for. From a competition stand point, club is much higher caliber ball. The pace of the game and the skills of the girls is just far above high school, even as low as the middle school ages. If you are looking to get your daughter onto a high school team, expose her to club as soon as possible, especially if she is in a public school system. They do not get exposed to volleyball as early as the private schools (not beating a dead horse here, I know this has been debated on this site for years). In playing club, they will develop at a much quicker pace fundamentally than if they just play at SOAS or a rec league.
  4. I will call out the Scott side..as a Scott alumni, I was very dissappointed in the way the parents acted. My wife, a Holy Cross alumni actually left and went to sit in the Holy Cross section because of they way they were acting. In no way is it appropriate to direct anything to the student section of the opposing school. Cheer for the team, yell at the refs, its all good....also, Scott was killing themselves with dumb mistakes, penalties, and turnovers...only after they stopped the dumb plays did they start to control the game.
  5. The KHSAA has released the state tourney bracket.... Region 1 vs Region 14 Region 9 vs Region 7 Region 15 vs Region 3 Region 5 vs Region 10 Region 13 vs Region 2 Region 10 vs Region 16 Region 6 vs Region 8 Region 12 vs Region 4 Some very interesting 1st round match-ups (NDA/Ryle/St. Henry (9) vs Assumption (7)) and (Mercy(6) vs Oldham Co/North Oldham/Simon Kenton (8) Scott/Campbell Co/Bishop Brossart (10) could make a nice run to the semi-finals to meet Mercy. Thoughts?
  6. Very well played match. I thought Dunbar would win this one, especially after finding out A Bush was not going to play. Ryle hung tough after a slow start. This will be a huge confidence builder for them.
  7. Ryle plays host to Lexington Dunbar tonight....Predictions?
  8. The Ryle/Tates Creek was a shocker to me.....and I was there. To me, it seemed like they both played very well, but Ryle did not block well, especially on the Bierman girl in the 1st game, hence Tates Creek takes game 1. Ryle comes out hot in the 2nd game and stuffs just about everything she hits in game 2, hence Ryle wins game 2. Game 3 was a toss up, both team played well and Takes Creek takes game 3 17-15. Side note, Ryle also losses their starting Libero to an injury (rumored to be a possible broken nose) in game 2.
  9. Having officiated this tournament the last several years, Ryle by far is the class of the field, especially with powerhouses Newport Central Catholic and Lou. Holy Cross not attending this year. With that being said, look for Ryle to win this, but don't be surprised to see Henry Clay, Lou. Eastern, and McCracken County in the running. Also, don't be suprised by dark horses Cooper or Dunbar.
  10. The Bluegrass State games have posted the Friday Pools for both Varsity and JV tournaments.... 2014 BGSG HSVB Pools | Bluegrass State Games
  11. I noticed that as well, but wasn't going to call anyone out on referree mechanics
  12. I have seen the video on Hudl..... 1) was there a lane violation....in my opinion, yes....there were several....probably could have been called a simeltaneous lane violation and then would have been a jump ball....ball would have been Scott's....however, probably not going to be called in that situation....as a previous poster said, lots of things to look for in this situation.... 2) did the ball hit the floor....no, hit the back of the rim and went up in the air, ball was tipped to the Cooper kid, who was outside the 3 point arc prior to the shot (probably the only kid who did not violate) ball was caught by this player and in one motion to the goal, layed in for the basket. 3) did the shot count.....yes....the time stamped video I have breaks down into .03/sec per frame....from the time the ball was tipped and until the ball was realeased by the player, was about in about .7 seconds....good call counting the goal.
  13. not to hi-jack the thread, but in the heat of the game, all players are going to question calls and not think "hey, I need to go find my speaking captain, so he can question this call." It's all part of maturely handling the situation.....I don't have any player on the floor asking me a legitimate question or asking me to watch for certain situations....but if any player then continues to complain or be disrespectful with "stare downs" or "theatrics", I am going to address those situations accordingly.
  14. As an official, each team does have designated "speaking captains" that are determined during the pre-game captains/coaches meeting. We as officials, do tell them that as representatives of their teams, they may address any questions/concerns to the officials, as long as it is done in a respectful manner. However, with that being said, we are not going to listen to constant complaining about calls/no calls or any disrespectful actions (taunting, foul language, etc).
