They probably figure 5 year olds aren't built like 6 year olds, but thats not always the case... I get what you're saying and I completely understand that line of thinking, rules are rules. However some kids are more advanced than others. Age isn't always the best guage when deciding whether someone is ready to try something new. Car seats for kids come to mind. It's not just an age thing but also a height and weight thing. Weird analogy I know.

This is one of the more interesting games for me this week. I'm curious if Owensboro comes out and throws the ball a little more than in recent years or if they just stick with the usual and dare their opponents to stop the run due to their size and defense. If the Red Devil's add another dimension to their game plan (passing the ball) they could be a team to keep a close eye on in 5A.

If Dan Dackich is on board, which he seemingly is after slobbering all over the Bahamas trip, he either see's something special with these cats or he spent the whole trip drunk. Either is possible..

Very interesting read. My take on it is that this kid really has his head on his shoulders and has learned from his father's mistakes, while still maintaining a close relationship with him. He obviously has a close(er) relationship with his mother who has had to play double duty with parenting while Dale was locked up. It's a really interesting story as well as one that a potentially bad situation could turn into a lifelong dream for the kid. ...

Greenup by whatever they want. In my opinion this will be one of the best seasons Greenup County has had in a long time. Unfortunately for the Musketeers, they're playing in the toughest district in the class.

I would be shocked if FD doesn't handle Wayne County pretty easily. 4A isn't very strong after a handful of teams while 6A is really solid throughout the top ten.

I feel the same as you. While the end result may not show who is the better team due to going "all out" may be for a limited period of time. I do believe that these two will run several series in a row with their best players on the field to see what they need to work on going forward.

That's what I was told, well 28-7, I was also told that Ashlands second string varsity players did have a score. I dont know which is correct but Spring Valley whipped Ashland in this scrimmage last season and both test ended up having really solid seasons, so I'll take it.

I really like this scrimmage for both teams as it should prep both for what looks to be another run at a state title. If all things are considered equal and this one is played like a regular football game I think it will be a really close scrimmage, with either team winning. A scrimmage is a scrimmage is a scrimmage, though! So who knows how it will play out as well as what the end result means for either team going forward. It should be a great...

The Apollo Eagles are coming off from a 7-4 season with a playoff loss to Greenwood in the first round. However these Eagles are looking to fly high in 2018 and build off from last seasons success. These two teams opened the 2017 season with Apollo cruising to a 50-22 win at home. What are your thoughts for this season's match between these two teams?

Last season was a great year for the Indians, posting their best record as well as playoff wins in well over a decade. It was the best Montgomery County team I can personally recall, though my memory isn't the best. This looks to be another promising season for the Indians with them likely rolling once again in this particular match up. What are your thoughts?

Last season the Red Devils cruised to a 41-19 win over the Maroons, then things fell apart for the Red Devils, losing four of their next five games. There are a lot of questions about the Red Devils this season but they have the tools to have a very good season, a win over a top 10 4A team would be a great start. Who wins and why? EDIT: Could I get a poll for this one as well please? Sorry mods.

The program at Anderson County has came a long way in recent years, finishing 8-4 last season with a close loss to 5A runner up Madison Southern in the playoffs. Could this be a sign of big things to come in the near future for the Bearcats? I'm leaning toward yes, but GRC is a tough opponent to open the season with.

South Oldham is coming off from back to back seasons that could be considered the best in school history. This season looks to be much of the same for the Dragons, however like last season the first two weeks will provide tough opponents right out of the gate. Last season CAL got the best of the Dragons posting a 28-14 win at home. However this season South Oldham is looking for revenge at home before traveling to Doss. Who wins this one and...

The Warriors are coming off from a 10-3 season that ended with a 23-18 loss to Harlan County. That loss was somewhat unexpected by most football fans in the state. Will Southwestern rebound early on this season, or is this group of Warriors a work in progress?

While the football gods haven't been too kind to the Bluebirds the last few seasons, Highlands is looking to regroup and settle into what could be a big turn around season in 2018. Last season Highlands started the season off right with a 42-22 win over Cooper, will they replicate that season?

For years the Purples were the cream of the crop in class 5A, however last season ended with a loss to rival South Warren. To make things worse, 6A Saint Xavier came in and plucked coach Wallace away from the Purples. Coach Spader, a defensive minded coach replaces Coach Wallace in what looks to be another exciting year for the Purples. Opening the season with a new coach vs 6A #9 Central Hardin will be no easy task, who do you think wins and...

The 5A defending champions are coming off from one of the best seasons in school history and are once again sitting atop the throne in class 5A. Last season the Colonels came charging out of the starting gate with an impressive 49-17 win over 6A Ryle. This season these two teams look a little more evenly matched, but will it be enough for the Raiders to take advantage of playing on their home field and walk away with a win in their home opener?

Dackich in general loathes anything Kentucky, so it is a bit odd to hear him slobbering over this team. I'll write it off as a one time deal this week due to the free drinks and the Bahamas experience.

We're on the same page and I completely agree with your assessment. As I mentioned skill players at Greenup seem to come in cycles. I really think Grizzle is building something in Greenup County but they really need to have a break out year this season. Losing to JC or Ashland isn't make or break for them, but their out of district games could have a lot of influence as far as the progression of the program goes. Russell on the other hand,...

Haha, we still are, I just call it how I see it. Personally I believe Greenup County will have their best season in quite some time as long as they can replace some linemen. In general, one thing Greenup County has always been able to replace are big bodies. It seems that the skill players come and go in cycles, but this year they're in a good cycle as far as skill players go. Fwiw, I hope both teams do really well, but I believe Greenup...

Ryan Bryant DE/TE for Ashland is a player that's under the radar and worth keeping an eye on. He's 6'5/270 and is garnering the interest of several D1 schools. I wouldn't be surprised to see him have a breakout year on either or both sides of the ball.
