Find it hard to believe I just now saw it for the first time. Going through a stack of monthly magazines called The Kentucky Explorer...which features a zillion historical stories of the Commonwealth...reading all of the sports related ones...and saving bits and pieces for my files. Our station carried U.K. sports the whole time I was there; we interviewed him at our state tournament broadcasts several times (picture from the 1989 Sweet...

Shucks; knew the story at one time, but now don't even remember what book it was. There was more about the South Bend Central job and all that he learned there...about learning to deal with parents, society, school principals, etc. Dayton, KY probably wasn't a whole lot different from his home town of Martinsville, IN.

Always have. Sensitive sinuses and the ability to get a tremendous cold once or twice (or more) a year. And the fibers from tissues always seemed to cause more problems than they helped. Still put a clean hanky in my hip pocket every day.

No doubt there are several KHSAL guys who would be worthy of discussion. But accurate information about their careers and the competition is almost impossible to find. Bummer!

Well phooey; that didn't come out as clearly as I had hoped. Not sure how to clean it up. The script at the bottom of first picture said, "Dedicatory exercises, honoring Mr. Bridges, were held in the Highlands H.S Gym January 15 (1956.) Bottom of the second pic, "The basement recreation room is used for student activities during the day and by the teen-age canteen and other groups on weekends and for special evening programs."

Thought this might be of interest to Bluebirds fans. Found the pic in the February, 1956 edition of the KHSAA's publication "The Athlete."

I liked Lackey's comments after the game: "I wasn't trying to hit anybody, but I totally get the other side, too," Lackey said. "Tell Happy, my bad, apologize for that, have to buy him something nice for getting hit. But the game polices itself. Whether I intentionally did it or not, I get it on the other side. You've got to take care of your guys too." ("Happy" is rookie Ian Happ...the Cub who got plunked in retaliation in the bottom of...

I appreciate the following quote from Pastor Rick Warren: “Our culture has accepted two huge lies. The first is that if you disagree with someone’s lifestyle, you must fear or hate them. The second is that to love someone means you agree with everything they believe or do. Both are nonsense. You don’t have to compromise convictions to be compassionate.”

We always enjoyed sitting near Dale and Hardy Tribble at the Sweet 16. Always in a good mood; always glad to see ya; always enjoying the proceedings; and funny as all get out. God bless you my friend; thanks for great memories.

Julian Tackett posted this on Facebook this evening: Sitting in a restaurant by myself tonight, was thinking the poetry I heard most of the day listening to xm radio and the British announcers who have you thinking you are there on xm radio listening to the Open. The poetic waxing was wonderful. Then I came across a post that literally shook me, actually bring tears I didnt care who saw to my eyes. Longtime radio man, coach and true friend...

You might contact Kevin Patton. He has been the sports editor of the Henderson Gleaner for the last 20 years or so. The play-by-play man was Keith Farrell on WHRZ, Providence. He is now the public address voice for the Trojans teams. Jim Pickens has been writing sports for the Owensboro Inquirer dating back 30 years or so. He would likely be able to add information...at least regarding the game with Owensboro Catholic. Scott Brown...
