  1. Micro Fracture in his knee. May return in February at the earliest.
  2. I see Knox Central at 8, but a lot of this is based off of last year's 10-2 record (best in the school's history). They lost a great group of seniors who were part of the possibly the most successful class in the school's history. In that group included, of course, Jeffrey Canady who was a large part of their success rushing for over 2,000 yards among other things for the Panthers. This year, KC will have running back Jonathan Gist who rushed for over 1,500 yards in his own right. There are a lot of unknowns for this team going into the coming year, plus their schedule will be a bit more challenging. KC will be hard pressed to repeat that 10-2 mark, but third year coach Scotty Russell will have his guys ready to play. Aug 23, 13 Atherton Aug 30, 13 Southwestern (at Corbin) Sep 7, 13 Prestonsburg (at Clay county) Sep 13, 13 at Harlan County Sep 20, 13 Bell County Sep 27, 13 Whitley County Oct 4, 13 Clay County Oct 18, 13 Rockcastle County Oct 25, 13 at Russell County Nov 1, 13 at Corbin
  3. Here is a partial schedule that I found at khsaa.org. Aug 31, 13 North Laurel Sep 6, 13 Pike County Central Sep 13, 13 Wayne County Sep 27, 13 Harrison County Oct 11, 13 Campbellsville Oct 18, 13 Berea Oct 25, 13 Lynn Camp Nov 1, 13 Pineville Key Offensive standouts Skylar Griffith and Corey Shelton will be back on a team that lost a heartbreaker to Hazard in last year's 1A Regional Championship 7-0. A tougher schedule will help them as they get set for another playoff run. Some people locally think they could be primed for a State run, but they have to get past Hazard first.
  4. Coach Evans was rehired as coach for next season.
  5. Jake Allen is headed that way. That with McDaniel will make Clay on of the favorites next season. The Steve Black Show | Uncensored! Unbiased! Unpredictable!
  6. The school system has an interim Supt. who has apparently had all coaches re-appky for their positions. This situation still seems to be still up in the air down Knox Central way. Stay tuned..... The Steve Black Show | Uncensored! Unbiased! Unpredictable!
  7. I know the question here was about KC, but how does Bell Co. look for next year? The Steve Black Show | Uncensored! Unbiased! Unpredictable!
  8. KC will have to do a lot to match or improve on last year’s 10-2 season. 1. Replace a 2,000 yard rusher in Jeffrey Canady. They will need to rely on upcoming Sr. Jonathan Gist. Gist rushed for over 1,500 yards last season and will be the go to guy in the Panther Offense in 2013. 2. KC will need to find players to fill holes in the O line due to graduation. The O line was a big reason for the rushing success of the Panthers last season. 3. Find a QB. Devon Evans filled the position last year and played well, but he is gone now. A possible replacement could be incoming FR. Casey Diamond, but he is unproven yet at the high school level. 4. The schedule for 2013 is tougher than last season. Bowl games with Southwestern and Prestonsburg, road games with Corbin and Harlan Co. and Whitley Co. and Bell Co. and the schedule (not to mention their District with Russell Co., Clay Co, and Rockcastle Co.). KC will be hard pressed to match last year’s success, but with a solid coaching staff lead by 3rd year coach Scott Russell and some eager younger players ready to shine, they should be competitive in 2013. 9. I agree. 13th Region winners have been 1 and done in the state tourney as of late. The Steve Black Show | Uncensored! Unbiased! Unpredictable!
  10. Of course school is almost over and Summer is around the corner, but you know basketball season will be back before you know it. With kids playing in AAU Leagues and gearing up for Summer ball, I wanted to get your thoughts on the WAY TOO EARLY favorites to take the 13th Region in 2014. The includes both boys and girls teams. Can Clay County (boys) and Corbin (girls) make return trips to STATE, or will another school take their spot. What say you?????? The Steve Black Show | Uncensored! Unbiased! Unpredictable!
  11. With everyone coming back and still only 2 years removed from a 13th region title (2011), they should be one of the favorites going into next season. Next year's seniors got to experience a title run as freshmen, plus their coaching staff is strong. This will serve them well. Stay tuned on those rumblings Les mentioned. Developing story....... 12. It would be nice to have all schools appoint someone in charge of providing that information to KHSAA. Of the "three" sports (football, basketball and baseball), baseball is the worst at reporting scores. If you have a score, just call the number provided and report it yourself as was mentioned in earlier posts on this thread. One thing I would like to see is more stat reporting from schools. This includes all sports. Some schools are very good at reporting, while other schools never report stats. As a sports talk show host myself, I use KHSAA alot for my research, but it makes things difficult when stats are not posted. Have a great day! Steve Black Show
  13. South Laurel looks good in the 13th Region this year. Teams like Corbin, Harlan and Clay County will present a challenge. The Steve Black Show | Uncensored! Unbiased! Unpredictable!
