  1. I agree that bunting with two outs is going against the grain.BUT... I took over a 16u team in early July last year that couldn't get a timely hit. In Columbus in the bottom of the 7th of two games I had a batter bunt with two outs, once with two strikes. Won both games by one run. One opposing coach called it the gutiest move he had ever seen. We were not the Bronx bombers, so I had them bunt. Wouldn't have done with one out and a runner on third though. Max preps has Ryle 7th in the state. Go raiders.
  2. No amount of passed balls could make up for this beat down. Good job Josh and the entire raider offense.
  3. It came up last night at a game.. MLB Rules says this: a) an error is an official at bat, but your on-base percentage goes up.
  4. Ryle beats cooper, and all other opponents this weekend. Just how many "experts" out there can't see that they have the best outfield in northern kentucky, definitely top three in the whole of greater Cincinnati . Overall defense is also best in northern kentucky. Offensively, they can play small ball and let their speed take care of business or they will just hit the crap out of the opponents pitcher. Like to see suchanek vs. Ryle, but I think Ryle wins due to team concept. I see Ryle possibly running the table in n.ky in the regular season. Maybe 1-2 losses out there if they drink their own kool aid
  5. Seen norton play since u13, nobody compares to his skills behind the plate and at the dish. Has great instincts for the game and is a real student of the game. Saw him beat out a runner from behind the plate backing up first. Kyle Kramer is next best due to his bat, love his bat. Great kid too !!! The rest are high school catchers, imo.
  6. Tuesday April 2, 2013 Mike Varner Southwest Ohio Correspondent Anderson Township Ohio - The Anderson Redskins opened up their 2013 season in search of another regional appearance against Campbell County, Kentucky ( 2-5 ) at home this evening. The Anderson Redskins lost fourteen seniors to graduation last year including pitchers Bela Perler ( NKU ) and Nick Mason ( Parkland ). This years roster includes six underclassman. This game saw each team battling back and forth through the first three innings with Anderson leading after three, 5-4. Anderson starting pitcher Conner Wheeldon pitched three innings allowing three earned runs on three hits. His fastball sat at 76-78 mph, his change at 71-73 mph , and his curve at 62-65 mph. Junior Zak Dunaway pitched 1 1/3 innings in relief and gave up 5 earned runs on four hits, while striking out two and walking two. Anderson 2015 pitcher Justin Hopkins pitched the final 2 2/3. Hopkins shows a lot of promise on the mound with a fastball that hit 75mph and an exceptional good out pitch, his 61-64 mph curve. Hopkins will be an interesting follow as he develops his arm strength. On the hitting side, Anderson’s junior 3rd baseman Cory Peterson went 2-3 with 3 RBIs and Junior pitcher / DH Jake Mason went 2-4 with 3RBIs. Senior 2nd baseman Sean Beebe went 3-4 with 2 runs scored showing some serious wheel on the base paths. Anderson scored four runs in the fourth for a total of nine runs off Campbell County Starter Tyler Walsh, many of which were unearned due to some serious miscues in the field. Walsh’s fastball showed some nice movement and sat at 77-80, touching 82 at times. Senior Pitcher Andrew Perrin ( 2013 ) came in in relief and finished the game earning the win. Perrin’s struck out 5, including the final three in the bottom of the 7th to preserve the 10-9 win. His out pitch was a very nice 62-64 mph curve that broke an easy 12/6. Campbell County’s hitting stars were senior outfielder Pau Griffis who went 3-4 with 2 RBOs and two runs scored. Sophomore shortstop Josh Reynolds went 2-3 with 2 runs scored and an RBI while displaying a nice glove at short. Anderson ( 0-1 ) plays host to the Loveland Tigers (3-0) tomorrow at Anderson, while travels to George Rogers Clark Friday.
  7. There are several players this year from around the region that warrant a look. On Ryle, juniors Clarkson, Forbes, and Downs will shine. All have blazing speed in the field and on the base paths. Clarkson has a cannon in center and can hit. Forbes is a hitting machine with great baseball instincts. Downs will work his way into the starting line up. Dixie's Nick King is a follow. King has a cannon in the filed and may surprise on the mound. Conner's # 11 Jared Williams will be fun to watch, both in the field and at the plate. Scott has a couple of boys that will play at the next level. Shortstop Reed Spata has nice infield actions at short and catcher Kyle Kramer is a hitting machine who hits to all fields showing power to right. St. Henry's Tony Lacorte may raise some heads on the mound with nice control of all his pitches. Across the river, Glen Este has The Burdick Brothers, Tyler and Peyton. Tyler will be among the top in every offensive category and Peyton is no slouch at the plate either and the boy can deal on the mound. Austin Istvan will hit for power and average. Turpin has very solid defensive players in Capetillo, Varner, and Sophomore shortstop Patrick Fletch. Varner, was fourth in fielding percentage in greater Cincinnati last year as a sophomore and looks good at the plate showing some power. Anderson's Jake Mason is following in his older brothers footsteps and promises to have a strong year on the mound consistently reaching the mid 80's with his fastball. Reading's Dave Vaske should continue where he left off from last year, both spring and summer. Vaske, a junior, won an easy 12-13 games on the mound throughout last year. Reading's sophomore Kyle Bowling hit oe 400 last year as a freshman and will continue that trend. Lasalle's Senior Pitcher won 4 games in the GCL last year and shows great command of three pitches in and around the strike zone.
  8. Josh Bellew started and went 4 for Ryle scattering 4-5 hits allowing no runs. While not overpowering, Bellew was able to locate his fastball very nicely, mixing in a decent breaking ball to keep Scott off Balance. Offensively, Ryle used it's team speed, some sharply hit balls by Raines, Baumann, Clarkson, Forbes and some pretty shoddy Scott Defense to put up 6 runs in the first four Innings. Tom Deters relieved Bellew giving up 3 runs in 1 1/3 innings before being relieved by Ethan Brennan who worked out of a one out bases loaded jam by striking out Scott Shortstop Reed Spata and inducing catcher Kyle Kramer into an inning ending force play. Scott Catcher Kyle Kramer is a definite follow in Northern Kentucky for his ability to spray hard liners all over the field. He went 3-3 before hitting a sharp two hopper to short to end the threat in the sixth. Scott Pitcher Brenden Wells took the loss pitching 3 plus innings allowing 6 runs, many of which were unearned. Blake Gay relieved Wells and kept Ryle off balance with a mid-70's fast ball and nice breaking ball. Gray also stroked a nice double to the gap in deep right center. In my opinion, Ryle High School, while only 2 games into the season, has what it takes to make a run at the regional title: Crazy team speed, excellent defense ( 1 error ), Will hit for high team average with 4-5 boys having serious gap to gap power potential. Pitching will dictate Ryle's overall Success.

  12. Seems to me that folks in this forum are taking their ill comments on a players abilities a little too far and are a little too short sighted in the their evaluations and overlook the scope of excellent regional players out there. Before you say " what does someone from Cincinnati know about Kentucky High School sports ?", I spent 15 years in Florence/Union putting two daughters through Ryle and seeing them off to UK.... I spent many a day watching G-Wags and Humph turn double plays and Vince hit the crap out of the ball while watching the boys of the class of 2014 play. What I can say , without equivocation , is that Cincinnati Baseball trumps anything in the greater cincinnati. With that said, Defensively, Ryle will be hands down the best team in NKy. Their outfield of Clarkson, Baumann, and Forbes will be one of the best in the city. Blazing speed, and strong arms will rule. Personally, I would forego the " underclassman have to wait their turn " and start downs and Forbes up the middle and T.Mason in left. As for Greater Cincinnati Infielders, Mahan & Proia at Moeller, Martin ( hurt, but still committed to KSU today ) & Mcvey at Mason, Davis from CHCA, Varner from Turpin, Minton & Walker from Milford, Richmond from Oak Hills,Beckner from Lebanon, Rieman & Nichting from Badin, Deleat & Elam from Lakota East are all ready to jump to the next Level. Clarkson ( Hey E ), Baumann, Plvan, and Forbes will make waves at the next level. MO and Klein ( coming back from injury ) from Boone will have break out years. NewCath, with its seniors, is the best east of the Licking and may have highest team BA at the end of the year. Don't sleep on the boys from Campbell County though. Suchanek, Shreiver, Ward, Cain are all major D1 players. Dunn and Verst will dominate when their spot in the rotation comes. Norton should learn French ((( Hello Toronto )))). See Ya after Graduation. Nick King , from Dixie, is and always has been an interesting follow. 91 % +/- of Ohio class of 2013 have committed to 36 % of Kentucky class of 2013. 2014 sampling is smaller to date but its 15% to 8% respectively. Can't wait for the season to start.
