  1. Bradley will be missed, he attended most all games and was a great supporter of the kids. His daughters name in Kristen though.
  2. Congratulation Lacey Mitchell! Quite an accomplishment for one so young!
  3. Merry Christmas !!!!! Hope everyone is having an excellent day!
  4. Lady Bears played a great game. They really go after the ball! Lady Devils started off great but between the pressure from the Lady Bears and their shooting was just too much. Didn't help having probably the worst officiates I've seen. They couldn't read or didn't look at the possession arrow and even when both bookkeepers told them they were wrong they just kept going. I thought if the books matched the ref's had to go with them? They seemed lost during the entire game. One would say 2 shots and the next thing you know we're taking the ball out. They'd call jump ball and then give free throws. It was sad. I know refs get a lot of grief but geez these guys were really bad. Lady Devils ended with 2 players fouled out and only 4 on the court. LOL It was definitely an exciting game even if it was a loss for the home team.
  5. I do understand about the concerns of injury and burn out, I really do. I also understand the scheduling of players, coaches and the gym. I mean no disrespect towards the coaches at all. Coach Mitchell has been great with the girls for years. He genuinely cares for them and it shows. The players respect him and it shows as well. As for the plays I won't argue that there are that many, but in watching the games, they don't run them. They have a tendency to run the same few, as in the Nicholas game. Once Nicholas players saw them repeating again and again they knew where to be and stole the ball several times from them, as well as intercepted passes. Before you point out the obvious I am aware that that happens in a game. But if you see it, and it's obvious then change it up. If the play worked, by all means throw it in again but not back to back repeatedly. I suppose it is my heart that gets me into trouble, I feel for the girls. They hear the comments, see the sparse showing in the stands and wish it was different. They knew it was going to be a rough season, as did the coaches. But they are still happy to be playing. I am also grateful to have the program and all those that support it and work to make it happen. There is no better than adversity. Every defeat, every heartbreak, every loss, contains its own seed, its own lesson on how to improve your performance the next time. Malcolm X
  6. Just an FYI. The Lady Devils, for all their lack of practice ( the entire week before the Pendleton game they had 1 hour of practice the day before and as a rule 2-(rarely)3 practices a week up until then) and their youth, they are doing great. They have managed to not have the running clock during their games. My thought is they need more practice time. Up to this year practice was every weekday there was not a game and on a weekend occasionally. In my opinion this is hurting them drastically. These girls just need time on the court as a team. They need more than 2-3 plays, and they need the shooting practice. The skill is there, it just needs honed. Most of the games they start off strong and then fade out. I hope that they keep their spirits up! These girls love the game and I just wish the program was working for them instead of against them. I hear so many negatives in the stands at the games and I just don't think people understand how well they do for the amount of interest is shown in the program now. Go Lady Devils!!! Keep at it! Bourbon County 38 - 75 (37) Villa Madonna 38 - 52 (14) Augusta 36 - 45 (9) St. Patrick 38 - 55 (17) Paris 44 - 57 (13) Pendleton County 48 - 77 (29) Nicholas County 50 - 77 (27) The KHSAA Board of Control has approved a running clock provision for basketball. The rule will require a running clock to be used in all levels of high school basketball if a point differential of 35 points or more is reached after halftime. The clock will be stopped only for a charged time-out, for injury/blood or disqualification, and immediately following the reporting of a foul if free throws are to be administered. The specifics on how officials are to administer this new rule will be addressed in the near future.
  7. So very proud of these girls! Way to go Kelsey!!! Michelle Smith also plays on the Midway Team with Kelsey.
  8. Bourbon County home 38 - 75 (L) Villa Madonna at Bracken County 38 - 52 (L) Augusta at Bracken County 36 - 45 (L) Very proud of our Ladies! I know Coach Mitchell has his reasons and I do understand them, but when these girls pressure the ball they get results. Staying in zone really hurts them as far as any shooter from the 3 point line. In all 3 games as soon as they start pressuring the ball, they gain. I think they are waiting too long to do it. On the flip side full court pressure does tire them out quicker. But I feel these girls can handle it. There are 3 quick girls out there, Mitchell, Fryman and Thomas, let them pressure, force turnovers and steal the ball, they're good at it. They created more opportunities last night by pressuring. Any thoughts?
  9. Final score 75 Bourbon - 38 Deming. The Lady Devils fought hard. Shot 57% from the foul line, struggled with turnovers in the first half and "running out of gas." Bourbon played a good game and hit several 3 pointers. Their depth, experience and size was just too much. The only thing I hated to see was the full court pressure in the fourth quarter when you are 30 points up. Lady Devils played hard through every quarter, very proud of them. Nice passing and teamwork on the floor. Next game is Bracken County Tip-Off Classic on Thursday against Villa Madonna.
  10. Bourbon does have a strong team returning this year. This is going to be a rough one. That's for sure. Let's just pray for no injuries, illness, or foul trouble. Good Luck Lady Devils.
  11. Devilman, I love your positive energy! These girls really need the support. They know it's going to be tough, but they just want to play. Deming has always been a small team, in numbers and size it seems. But they have heart and they love the game. That's what makes them fun to watch. They won't give up until the last buzzer.
  12. K. Smithers, Senior, L. Mitchell, Sophmore, eighth graders are M. Fryman, A. Thomas, B. Hubbard and B. Hessler.
  13. The girls WERE told there would be no program, and were given other options (for the 2 high school) but it had not been made "official". YES there will be a team this year, currently with 6 players. They are holding tryouts next week to rally a few more, perhaps some of the girls who played in the past will rejoin. Going to make for a rough season, but at least there will be a season. The program needs to stay intact. There are several talented young ladies that are coming up and it would be a shame to lose them to another school. Seems the parents and 2 High school girls convinced them to change their minds. Job well done and kudos for standing up for the future of the program!
  14. Okay.....Sad news and lots of questions. Deming has pulled the girls in today to tell them there will not be a girls team. District Champions and they don't get to defend that title. The reason is a shortage of players. There are 2 high school players and 4-5 8th graders. There may be a few of the 7th that would play but not sure about that. Anyway, if they have 6-7 players is there a rule I am not seeing that says they cannot play? I understand if something happened and they did not have enough to play, (ie: foul trouble, injury) they would have to forfeit, and I understand there is a fine for it if that were to happen. Is there a minimum number designated for a team to have in order to be able to play? Obviously you need enough to fill the court and have a substitute or two. But is there an actual number? Can exceptions be made for the smaller schools as far as fines? It's really sad for the girls who have worked hard, played well, and brought home the District title after 32 years to have to just walk away. I really feel for their Senior girl. :irked:
