  1. I can't quite remember the specifics, but I think the Jackets only scored two touchdowns. Their kicker was hitting 40+ yard field goals with ease. And they didn't have to go crazy on offense, because they shut Mayfield down completely. The Cards scored one garage time TD. That was it.
  2. U-G-L-Y. I'd love to see Mayfield start playing them again so we can even up that tally.
  3. I truly have no clue what to expect. Just hope the big red machine has one good showing left in them. I feel the same way about this game as I did with LCA and Beechwood. Flip a coin.
  4. I will simply echo what has already been said. Hendo is the only common opponent. OC wins by 20 at home, Mayfield wins by 14 on the road, to me that's a wash. I do give the edge to Mayfield on SOS. I think that is clear to anyone paying attention. However, OC has also beaten all their opponents decisively. There were no close calls. So that has to be taken into consideration. I have been very impressed with Mayfield's elevated play the last three weeks. I felt like they were sleep walking thru the back half of their schedule, and to see them crank it up the way they have gives me confidence that they can handle anything coming their way if they stay the course and keep playing with the same level of intensity. They certainly have more offensive balance than OC. And from what few highlights I've seen of the Aces, I feel like Mayfield will have an edge on the LOS. I don't know what to think of OC. Schedule is lacking, but again there were no close calls. And if I had to pick the most dangerous offensive weapon in high school football it would be a dual threat quarterback. Atwell looks the part. He has complementary pieces. They obviously play good team ball. And at this point, all it takes is one good game to seal the deal. Can they keep doing what they have done all season while playing the toughest opponent they have played yet? Going to be fun to see how this one plays out!
  5. I would think Mayfield's defensive gameplan would be similar to the Beechwood game. It appeared we platooned lineman to keep fresh rushers on the QB. We threw in quite a few A gap blitzes in there, and those worked great. I don't know what Atwell's 40 time is, but sounds like he is fast enough where his legs can get him out of trouble in an instant.
  6. I understand it was frustrating. You posted the picture. I wouldn't dive into the penalties. That's a rabbit hole not worth going down.
  7. Right there with you. Beechwood is a confident team and confident teams that pass as well as they do have to go for the kill shot.
  8. Nothing wrong with pointing out the refs missed a big one. The way that game went, it absolutely could've mattered.
  9. I'm the type of fan that is simply relieved after a game like that. Tense from start to finish. Mayfield owned the first half, Beechwood the second half. Great season Beechies. Final round for Mayfield, let's see if these guys can finish.
  10. I made about seven Mayfield games this season. I have only watched two Beechwood game online (CCH & Simon Kenton). I think these two teams match up really well. There are so many angles to analyze this game from where either team has the advantage and could come away with a win. Mayfield has had some tough tests in the last two rounds. Murray played their best game of the season two weeks ago against Mayfield. We saw what happened last week against LCA. I have questioned the toughness of this Cardinal team throughout the season. They haven't played the cleanest ball, and their only loss (PT) was a game where they had opportunities to grab the bull by the horns, and couldn't make it happen. Having said that, they are peaking at the right time. Starks is a home run waiting to happen. Cartwright is looking like a real field general with his decision making and confidence. Defense has really stepped it up in the playoffs. My one concern, is that a game like last weeks will be hard to replicate. Those battles can emotionally drain a team (even when they win), and leave the victor feeling overconfident. Are they gonna bring the same juice this week? They have all the pieces to get a ring, they just have to tie it together. We all know the Beechwood pedigree. This year is no different. They mirror Mayfield with their only loss being to an undefeated team. Their defense might not be as good as last year, and they might not run the ball very much. But they are REALLY good at what they do (passing) and will be coached up the same as Mayfield. Mayfield will have to find ways to make their QB uncomfortable. I feel like that will be the key to slowing them down. Again, I think both teams are built the same. Not very big but VERY skilled. GO MAYFIELD.
  11. Outside of Mayfield and PT, the far west is very weak. McCracken has moved down a tier, and even when they had those "good" teams in their early years they didn't make any significant playoff noise. Other than Graves Co's one title game appearance, they are average on an annual basis. Murray is middling. Hopkinsville/Christian Co fell of the map of competitiveness. Marshall Co hasn't been consistently good since the 90's. Calloway is in the same boat as Marshall. That's it. Two teams. And Mayfield and PT are stuck playing alot of these teams simply from a geographic and financial perspective. I watched CCH/Beechwood game online. CCH showed fortitude coming back from being down 21-0. Those QB runs in the second half, combined with Beechwood stalling on offense, helped them pull out the win. It was either team's game though. I watched Mayfield/PT game in person. PT has the reputation of letting their frustration get the better of them in close games with penalties. There were several pivotal plays in the second half to swing the momentum, and Mayfield had chances but couldn't take advantage. PT did exactly that and put a firm grip on all the big plays in the 4th quarter and took that game. I honestly think this game is a tossup. I give PT the higher ceiling, but I give CCH the higher floor. Both very good teams. I would say I will try and watch it on my phone, but I will have all my attention on the field at War Memorial.
  12. Mayfield matching physicality was my concern before the game too. They have lacked that at times this year. The way the first drive unfolded I thought it could be a long night. But they buckled down, and outside of the long touchdown run in the second half, they made Hensley earn everything he got. Boley didn't have many snaps where he could stand back there and be comfortable. Constant pressure. I didn't understand the LCA defense. They provided so much cushion on the outside Mayfield had lots of layup first downs in the passing game. The two big touchdown runs by Starks were great, but outside of those two runs and maybe two others, he was bottled up. If I had to pick an MVP, it would be Zane Cartwright. I have been critical of him over the last few years because of consistency. But this year, and particularly last nights game, he showed tremendous poise and leadership. His passes were on the money, he kept the chains moving, and protected the football well. I don't know if I've been to a more exciting game at War Memorial. And I've been to alot. On to next week and another juggernaut.
  13. This game is AS ADVERTISED. Wow. Slugfest. Mayfield receives kickoff to start second half.
  14. I can get behind the underrated part, but to say they'd beat CovCath handily is a stretch. Time will tell all. You might be right.
