  1. Maybe, maybe not because those same players who “may” have went to Holmes could’ve also went to HC had Johnson been at HC when they made that decision. Holmes had their chance and whiffed. I want Holmes to get back to being competitive, I just don’t think it will be with Coach Johnson.
  2. Ricardo is not going anywhere, I can assure you of that. Holmes brass had a chance to get him and flat out passed on him. When so many doubted, or simply passed over him for a multitude of reasons, Holy Cross stepped up and gave him a chance and found a diamond in th rough in my opinion. He had a successful first season and came within 5 points of making it to the regionals. He loses 1 senior from the team this year, I'd say he's in a pretty good spot for next season. I know Ricardo well and he was hurt being passed up by the Bulldogs previously and has moved on and building on the success at Holy Cross.
  3. Seems to be a repetitive problem. They had a chance to get another alum about 10 years ago and dropped the ball there too! It’s sad to see what the program has become. I hope they find the right coach to make the program relevant again.
  4. Maybe they will and maybe not. Remember that other teams will have “incoming” players as well. I’m sure CCH will have their annual newcomer(s) as well. Like I always say, no games are won on paper and just like last night, games have to be played…
  5. Jack Gohlke went Billy Hoyle on the Cats!! There defense what terrible again. Cal continues to chase all these freshmen and with the transfer portal and kids not chasing the NBA, like 80% of the UK roster, they are playing grown men. I've said that his teams are just too young for years and he can't develop them! Tonite it showed.......again!
  6. I tried to tell people that this was a 50/50 game and the score was going to be within 3 points. CC has been playing great basketball the last 12 games and it showed tonite. Playing team ball and solid defense got the job done. I just love Garyn Jacksons' game, 11pts, 6 boards, 4 assts and a steal. Absolutely no fear and just plays like an energizer bunny! Congrats to Coach Snapp and the Wildcats on a great season and with the entire team back next year they have a solid chance on getting right back there with a healthy Kinney who I hope heals up fully, but knowing what I know about hamstrings those need about 2-3 months to get remotely right. I know he's got a solid group of advisors around him but there is no way I would risk it playing AAU ball until it's fully healed. Wishing him the absolute best, great player. For now I am pulling for CC to keep it going!
  7. While your points are valid, I would believe when I saw it. I just don't see it happening in the 33rd but anything is possible and Conner is a respectable job.
  8. I'm calling it right now, NOT A CHANCE! Cooper is the only school in NKY that has a successful Girls, Boys and Football which is an attaction and while Holthaus is not the original coach like the other two major sports, he has built his program up as a power in the state and there's something to be said about being that person. Not to mention even though they lose a ton this year, they do have some young pieces that will make them a very solid girls team next year with some young guns coming in future years. The Cooper boys team will make another run next year as they have virtually the whole team back, will be a tough start whoever takes that job for whoever gets it.
  9. Something is telling me this is going to be a closer game than people expect. Newports schedule has surely been a tough one and they certainly have met the challenge. However, past records mean nothing come Sweet 16 time because you have to beat who's next. Campbell has been playing extremely well and sharing the ball effectively and something in my gut is telling me this could go either way. Garyn Jackson will come up big in this game IMO and he better not be underestimated because he will simply make the Wildcats pay. The young man just makes plays and his AAU circuit has certainly prepared him for this big stage. Newport is and should be favored but depth may play a factor if the game is called tight. I think it's a 2-4 point game either way.
  10. Unsure on this one but we were 1 point away from Scott and Cooper playing for the championship in 2017. That would have been special. This Campbell - Newport game is 50/50 IMO. There are not too many teams that are as hot as Campbell going into the tournament. They are sharing the ball extremely well and they are not caring about who the leading scorer is. I really like Garyn Jackson as someone who will play a "significant" role in this game. They young man just plays non-stop the entire game and simply makes plays. If Newport plays the way they have played mid-late season, they could come away with the win. Who knows what Kinney will bring to the table as, rightly so, Newport is keeping that close to the vest. If they can't score, as normal, against the zone and they shoot like they did against Ryle, they could very well lose. Glad to see at least one of them will be representing NKY in the quarter finals. Good luck to both squads.
  11. I will give you props on the score prediction. I had no idea Newport would hold the ball as much as they did but it was the smart thing to do and it paid off and achieved the objective so kudos to Coach Snapp, excellent coaching. As to your Buffalo Bills comment you couldn’t be more incorrect. In fact, I would state that both the Boys and Girls Basketball teams as well as the Football teams have overachieved. For a school that has only been in existence for 16 years there has been significant progress made and no other school that was started in 2008 has done more “collectively” than Cooper. The 2017 boys team shocked the State with that regional win, the girls team has now won the region 3 straight times including a trip to the final 4, the 2012 football team went to the State finals being just 5 years old, they’ve added 2 more regional titles since then and the 2023 team shocked the State again making it to the finals and that team was a year ahead of schedule. What Cooper has achieved is hard, really hard and I certainly wouldn’t put them in the Buffalo Bills category, that’s not even close and there are a ton schools that would love to have the Jags resume in that short of time span. I’ll close with my thoughts and prayers go out to Kinney as the injury looked significant and I am wishing the Wildcats and Coach Snapp nothing but success in the Sweet 16!! Time for all of NKY to rally around Newport or Campbell and it’s just a shame they have to play each other first game.
  12. Man I telling you. Sounds like a lot of people just want to complain about a really good basketball game about to take place. Folks had almost 48 hours to go to one of the schools and get an $8 ticket and if you want to complain about the $5 parking there are plenty of off site places to park if you don't mind walking a little and with the weather being above 60 degrees today what is there to complain about? 859 Radio is an for those who want to listen.
  13. Couldn't agree more! He works his tail off on his AAU team as well. He's an energizer bunny!
  14. I’ve said since January that once the Jags have a full roster I expect them to be a tough out and I’m sticking to that prediction. I expect Cooper will be at full strength and yes, that includes Rondon. Cooper has been locked in even more on defense since Andy Johnson’s return and he adds a punch on offense that they didn’t have while he was out for almost 3 months. Newport has Kinney who is just special and the advantage of size but I firmly believe that the Jags physicality of Pouncy and Combs can will neutralize that advantage as in their first meeting which was a 2 point game with just under 2 mins to go. Isaiah Johnson is that hidden weapon who’s just quietly comes up with a block or an offensive put back when you least expect it. Depth could play huge part in this game if there is foul trouble and Cooper”s rotation of 9-10 players could pay a huge role if that happens. This game has the makings another 9th Region classic…Get you popcorn ready!! Go Jags!!
