After seeing both Covington Catholic and Highlands in person earlier this year, I thought Covington Catholic would have no trouble getting the win. I expected Covington Catholic to have great success running the ball, and it sounds like that happened. I did not expect Covington Catholic to have trouble passing the ball. I did not expect Highlands to be able to run the ball on Covington Catholic's defense. This game should tell the Highlands...

It may seem strange to say considering the final score, but I thought Ludlow played well. They made Beechwood work hard on offense for their points. Ludlow's defense did a very good job against Beechwood's running game. The Beechwood points came very fast on some big plays by John Odom. It was a 7-0 game at the very end of the first quarter when Beechwood QB Cam Hergott took advantage of Ludlow's defense loading the box and hit TE Luke...

I am disappointed in these posts. I saw good sportsmanship on the field tonight. I don't believe the Ludlow players and coaches agree with your posts.

This post is a response to the last comment in the update thread made by BIGZIG. Beechwood leaves their starters on the field until it is a running clock. Do you think a team should remove their starting players in the first half if a game even before it is a running clock?

Is Dixie fielding a JV team? They might be doing the froshmore team only. Earlier in the year Beechwood's freshman team played Dixie and Dixie brought and played their sophomores in that game. Beechwod played freshmen only in that game. Someone said Dixie was having trouble fielding a freshmen only team and that is why they brought sophomores. I don't know if that is true. I am just relaying what I was told when I asked why Dixie was playing...

Big improvement for Beechwood. I believe Highlands beat Beechwood JV by a lopsided score (35-0?) in a game at the start of the year. Beechwood's line did a good job at the line of scrimmage. Beechwood wasn't able to pass the ball so they went to a running game. Have you ever seen 11 men in the box at midfield? This happened many times in the game. When Beechwood went to their power I, Highlands put 11 men in the box. The safeties were up...

Is Ryan injured? I did not see him play in the Beechwood game last night. I was looking forward to seeing him.

Great news. He was moving his legs around on the training table so I thought the back board was being precautionary. Prayers for a quick recovery.

A testimony to Beechwood's offensive line. I saw Simon Kenton against Highlands and against Beechwood. Highlands had a lot of trouble with Simon Kenton's defensive line. Simon Kenton's linemen had a lot of tackles and applied constant pressure to the Highlands quarterback. Beechwood neutralized Simon Kenton's defensive line, and Simon Kenton has a couple of really good defensive linemen - Courtney and Sajlovic.

Logan Castleman wasted no time making his presence known in this game. First offensive play of the game for Beechwood, Castleman touchdown run. Second offensive possession, first time Castleman gets a touch, touchdown run. The very next play, Castleman intercepts a pass and returns it for a touchdown. Three touches for Castleman, three touchdowns and Beechwood leads 21-0 four minutes into the game. Other big plays for Beechwood: - Tyler...

Beechwood JV looked very good today in this win. They were in control of the game from the start and methodically kept adding touchdowns. In the second half the Tigers used many of their freshmen and got big plays out of Keaton Durrett, Avery Courtney, Michael Hatfield and Parker Mason. Parker Mason is pound for pound the toughest player I have seen this year. He is not big but he is fearless. He had some great runs and an interception. Avery...

Since others are commenting on the officials I will comment and say I thought they were flag happy. That was the most penalties I can ever recall seeing in a Beechwood game. It seemed like they were looking for the smallest opportunity to throw a flag and called things very tight. I thought one of the worst calls of the night was the spot by the side judge on the Hergott fourth down run. He missed the spot by a full yard. It caused a turnover on...

Beechwood was using the fullback against Covington Catholic with success before Derry was injured. The Derry injury has impacted the power running game. They needed to get the new fullbacks up to speed and last night Corts and Donoho did a good job at fullback when Beechwood went to the I formation. You should see more of the running game from here on out. Beechwood does a good job adapting the offense to what their players are good at. They...

Very good point. Simon Kenton made the perfect onside kick. The ball took the high bounce over the front line, hit the ground and took another high bounce with Simon Kenton players in position to recover it. Castleman jumped and got a hand on the high bouncing ball and knocked it out of bounds. It was a very smart play by him.

Last year it took state champion Trinity to knock them out. They beat the "decent" team from Louisville the round before that - Simon Kenton 52 Ballard 12.

Logan Castleman was the man tonight. He had to rush for over 200 yards. He made a very good run on a pass reception for the first touchdown. He had a nice interception on a flea flicker play. He had some good punts. He did it all tonight.

Prediction. Simon Kenton will win the rest of their games and win their district. They are a very good defensive team. They have weapons on offense. Quarterback Farfsing and running back Sergent are elusive hard runners.

Beechwood went prevent defense with the 2 touchdown lead. The score came on an 18 yard slant pass by Farfsing to Kaiser (spelling?) with 1:08 to go.

Feast or famine for both offenses in the first half. There was either no gain on the play or a big gain on the play.

First and foremost, it is the players. You have to have talented players. If the talent is close to even, then coaching and execution become deciding factors and execution is probably more important. You can have the best coaching and game plan there is, but if the players make mistakes all night then coaching doesn't matter. Go Tigers!
