  1. Is the Dayton vs NC game Wednesday or Thursday. Thought I heard finals were scheduled for Thursday
  2. Great Read as always Lawnboy! I wish JMU was still on here to say it in his own words, but if I remember right when Highlands was trying to be part of the discussion of the top teams in the 9th REGION he would always say something like "if you want to be the best you have to beat the best". It echoed for years when the Birds struggled against the Boone and Kenton County schools. It is a lot harder to kick in that door of being at the top of the discussion in the 9th REGION than it sounds! It will be interesting to see the schedules and see which teams are scheduling for a great banquet and which teams are scheduling to be tournament ready by the end of the season! IMO the 9th REGION is wide open.
  3. IMO, Spend the $250-$300 and get her the latest CF 8 or CF9 it is worth every penny! plan on buying one every couple years. Get a good hitting instructor there are a couple good ones out there. The confidence she will get when that ball jumps off a good bat is priceless. There are a lot of good tournaments around the 275 loop. River City, Rumpke, Great American was my favorite, expressway to name a few. If she isn't playing at one of those fields yet you should go watch a tournament sometime. Not only is it great to face good pitching but they see how other girls run the bases and how they play defense.
  4. I didn't catch any JV or Freshmen games last year maybe she pitched JV or Freshmen last year. I also heard there was a talented 6th grader that has been pitching in summer ball for a couple years and is pretty good. There were rumors at the regional tournament last year that a young lady who pitches might be coming to highlands. I guess that was just that a rumor or we would of heard about it by now. Really what needs to happen in Northern Kentucky is the freshmen teams need to become middle school teams. A true developmental league where they can get games in.
  5. Obviously pitching is the biggest question mark after watching these girls the other night it is going to be an excellent opportunity for whoever is in the circle. I guess in today's terms I was a helicopter dad so I have seen a few of these workouts over the years and this group is the fastest yet and the arm strength is crazy. Whoever takes over at first base better have a padded glove. I always check the softball thread looking for Fastpitch discussion. The site misses JMU31 he was great for getting threads started and get people going on the Fastpitch thread. Now that I know there are a few people reading I will start another thread.
  6. I have stopped by the birdcage a couple evenings and watched the offseason workouts. I was amazed! I counted 22 or 23 girls out there practicing! I was impressed by the group and how hard they were working! They looked faster than ever! It's never easy to replace great players to graduation especially players who had the experience these ladies had over the last 3 years winning the region and going to state 2 out of those 3 years! The good news is these girls saw how hard those girls worked and saw how much fun it is when the extra work pays off at the end of the season. I was expecting a rebuilding process. I figured they would be working on simple fundamentals and building for a couple years down the road, but from what I saw they looked like they have reloaded for this coming up season! They looked strong and the depth in the program is really showing. Between a solid JV program and a freshmen team and keeping the younger girls interested in the voluntary workouts during the offseason combined with having so many girls playing summer ball at a competitive level really makes a difference! I don't know who the next pitcher will be in the circle but one thing is for sure she will have a great defense with speed to burn behind her! From what I saw the lady birds will be fun to watch and they will be very competitive this year! We will have to see who emerges as the #1 pitcher but the future looks bright for the lady birds!
  7. How does KHSAA get away with the obvious difference between Boys Baseball and Girls Fastpitch end of season tournaments! Does title 9 rules not apply at the state level? I guess it's because school is out and so many move onto summer ball immediately where almost all tournaments are ran better than the KHSAA state tournament! It's like most feel high school ball is pre season for summer ball.
  8. Did anybody give McCracken a scare in the loser bracket? I know they mercy ruled Estill County and won a close one vs Highlands.
  9. I like the 2 and out format. If a good team gets upset (it happens which is why you play the game) it gives them an opportunity to battle back and have a second chance! Anybody who has ever played in two and out formats knows it's a long road out of the losers bracket and you have to beat the team who earned the right to sit there and watch TWICE! What a great run it was for them and it would of been a even better story if they would of won it all! Bottom line is the life lesson these young ladies will take from this experience will be with them long after we forgot about it! The shame of the story is these young ladies are playing on slow pitch softball fields where the outfielders are often making plays on dirt with temporary fencing behind them. Pitiful!!! Someone should remind KHSAA that we are in 2016 and the playing field for the state tournaments are not balanced. There are fast pitch complexes in Kentucky that could handle this tournament! If not Go to a format like college with super Regions played on college fields just stop the insanity of playing the tourney on make shift fields in Owensboro.

  11. They moved NCC vs Dayton game up and moved the Highlands vs Newport game until this evening at the birdcage with the championship to be played on Thursday NCC beat Dayton to advance to the championship game. It was a tight game until bottom of 6 when NCC tacked on 4 after what would of been an inning ending error. Dayton continues to impress and it will be exciting to see what they do next year.
  12. The purpose of my post was not to bash on any High School athlete(s) or take anything away from the organizers of this event!
