  1. Having been around awhile I have learned success could mean many different things to many different people. In my opinion I would think that success at a small school like Silver Grove would be to graduate players, teach kids how to respect themselves and others, and compete on nightly basis. I think last year was the first winning season the program has had since 2007 and their first district win in a couple of years. From the games I have watched the Big Trains have improved tremendously in the last couple of years. Matter of fact Mustang didn't the Trains hold the Mustangs without a basket for the first 3 minutes of the district game? Anyway everyone loves and underdog so I wish the Big Trains and other small public schools the best of luck.
  2. I have just found out that Silver Grove's Coach Aldridge has resigned his position as the Head Boys Basketball Coach and Athletic Director. They said that he has accepted a similar position at a school in FL. I wish him luck in his new venture. Who will the Bigtrains get? It looks like they have 4 of their starters back and a few others with varsity experience. Team looks to have a bunch of seniors returning with lots of experience. Is this a good job?
  3. It seems like there are some good job openings this season. Out of the list which one of these jobs will be the best including admin, parents, and players? Also out of these jobs which ones would be bad jobs?
  4. It is that time of the year again. It sounds like the job front is heating up quickly with the state tournament coming up next week. Just some things I have been hearing around the state. In regards to the Bracken Job I believe there will be some truth to Hinson wanting to take the job but has concerns do to Persinger being his friend. Other names that I have been hearing: Ryan Hamm (Mason County), Chris Stapelton (Mason County), with the dark horses being a coach that I can not name at this time from the 9th Region and B.J. Aldridge (Silver Grove). Will be very interesting to see what happens with this one. Also after talking to a friend from Daviess County sounds like they already have 75 plus applicants for the Apollo job. Candidates are pouring in from every where and rumor has it that another stud player is moving in to play with Eli Wright. From what's being said the North Oldham job is not getting much interest , I believe coaches do not want to put up with the parents. It sounds like things are heating up at Pendleton County with Keaton Belcher being the front runner but there have been around 30 plus applicants. I really enjoy being back in the best basketball state in the country!
  5. After reading some of the threads from here and another website I was curious to see what everyone's thoughts are. Being a follower of the 8th, 9th, and 10th Regions I would interested in what others would have to say about these Regions and the rest of the state. In the 8th I would have to vote for the Jump kid from Williamstown and the coy would be Coach Welch from Henry County. In the 9th I would have to vote for Brandon Hatton for poy and Coy would be Coach Dawn from NCC. Finally in the 10th I would have to vote for Brett Bach for poy and give a split decision for coy to Coach Brown from Robertson County and Coach Aldridge from Silver Grove. I have seen all of these young men and coaches in action and they all have done a fantastic job. Of course there are many players and coaches that are deserving of these honors. Interested in everyone's thoughts.
  6. Good morning everyone, hope that you and your families had a safe Memorial Day weekend. Heard some interesting news over the weekend. Interviews will be taking place on Tues., Wed., and Thurs. this week. They are going to interview 6 coaches for the position. Hope to have coach in place by June 1st. No names were given sorry, but if I hear more I will get back to you.
  7. This seems to be the biggest job that has opened up so far. This will be a tough act to follow considering what Coach Barr has done in his tenure and the loss of 5 college players. What kind of interest will there be for this position?
  8. Why are you bashing a young coach who was invited back to be the head coach at Nicholas but left because they cut his teaching job? I see your point about the record but sometimes you have to look at the big picture. The young mans teams improved every season that he was there, his kids graduated, and they reached a Regional for the first time in 13 years regardless of who they played they still made it. Also what coach wouldn't want to try for a job that has a chance at Region if the team stays together? The very few encounters that I have had with Mr. Reinhardt have been very cordial. I like watching him coach because he is intense and a throw back to my era of coaching. The kids love him and they play tough. I wish him the best of luck.
  9. I think the both of you made an excellent point. TAC you are absolutely 100% correct the young man should talk to the coach first face to face. Face to Face Commuication would be a skill that I would incorporate into my practice plans. Kids now days really are having a tough time commucationg with others in person. Also to Purplerpride2's point I have always gave the parents a voice. My rules concerning parents were that as long as it wasn't before a game, during a game, or after a game we could meet and talk. Also if there was going to be a meeting concerning a player the player needed to be present. We could talk about how the player could get better and possibly get more playing time. We did not discuss other players or my coaching. I also invited parents to practice as long as they were not disrupting it. Its amazing what happens when a parent sees their kid and realizes maybe he or she is not the best player.
  10. Being a former coach myself I would like to say thank you for all of your hard work and dedication. Whatever happened to the "yes sir and yes ma'am" mentality? Coaching is becoming tougher and tougher especially the way society is changing. When I first got involved in sports a long time ago parents and players respected their coach and their decisions no matter what. I am not saying this is the exact way it should be but I am saying that this is a dying tradition. It is now evolving into something that quite frankly is becoming scary especially with all the technology and social media. It not is only tough for the coaches but I imagine for the players as well. I couldn't imagine what it would be like to grow up into todays world. But this is why coaches are even more important to the kids they coach now. Coaching truly is a great opportunity to use the game you love to teach the game of life. I think people get so caught in winning and losing that they forget what sports really do for people. I am sure we all have that coach or mentor that we will always remember and be greatful for. They are probably the reason we chose the careers we chose and do the things that we do. So Coaches please remember that we are molding and helping to build a road map and moral compass for these young people we coach. Continue to teach, guide, and love these kids trying to make them the best they can be and prepare them for success in life. Parents I know you may not agree with the coaches decision all of the time but please remember they are doing what they feel is best for your son or daugther and the team. It is easy to get caught up in the web of my child should be playing more or to get on a website and blast other kids and the coaches. Maybe try talking with the coach and your child. I don't mean to be on a soap box but I noticed that there a lot of comments about coaches and what they should or should not do. Everyone is entitled to their opinions and I understand that. Its easy to complain and say "you should do this or do that and the team will be better" its human nature. But to all those coahces, teachers, mentors, and parents who are doing a great job and building a positive future for our youth thank you! Continue doing what you do.
  11. Just got off the phone with a buddy of mine from the 9th Region. He stated and I quote, "There are two candidates that have been taken to the Superintendent and they will decide by Friday." He wasn't able to give me names but he strongly suggested that one recently resigned from the 10th Region and other was a 9th Region coach who left his position in April. I wish both candidates the best of luck.
  12. If it is true what they are saying about Coach Reinhardt that truely is a shame for Nicholas County. The young man did a fine job, getting Nicholas back into the Regional for the first time in 10 years. If you happended to see the first half of the Nicholas County vs. MGC game you will see what they are going to miss. Good luck to Coach Reinhardt, I would imagine it will be tough for Nicholas to find a coach after this decision IMO.
  13. There seems to be some good upcoming younger coaches that are from NKY. I have not heard these young mens names mentioned much and I was curious of why not. I got to watch Nicholas County vs. Montgomery County in the Regional and thought that Coach Reinhardt did a great job of game planning and seemed like his players were well coached but just out gunned. His players listened and play hard. I did some research and saw that he went to Campbell County, NKU, and Georgetown. I thought he does a great job, has a great sense for X's & O's, and will make a fine coach one day. What can you tell me about him? I also got to watch a game between Robertson County and Silver Grove. It seemed that the kids from Silver Grove played hard and responsed well to Coach Aldridge (according to a parent he coached at Ryle, multiple colleges, and professionally in Iceland.) Again I heard this from a parent so don't quote me on this. I did however notice he seemed sharp, fiery, and passionate about the game and his players. He always was coaching and talking to his players. Neitherteam looked to be very talented so it was hard to tell but kids seemed to like him and the style of play. Who can tell me something about him? Also another young coach that caught my eye is Ross Hart (Beechwood Grad) from Holmes. After getting to watch them in a few games this season it always seemed that he was on top of his game. During timeouts he was doing a good job of getting the info the head coach needed. Also he always seemed to stay cool and really relate to the players. What is his story? I also got to watch Coach Blevins in action. He seemed like he was accute to his surroundings and his players. Seemed to very organized and ready when Coach Sullivan looked to him. What is his background? Finally another young coach that seemed to be on top of his game was Marlon Brey from Newport. He also seemed to relate well to the players and looked as if he was in tune with the game. I got to speak with Coach Snapp at the Regional Tournament and he had nothing but great things to say about Coach Brey. Who can tell me more about this young man? It seems like all these young men had something in common: work hard, players respond well to them, ethusiastic, and compassionate for their players and game. Now again this is just my opinion and I have only got to see some of these coaches no more than once. Having talked to people around NKY and it seems that most of the schools in the 9th Region like to go after local guys. Good luck to all of these young men and all the others who are coaches. Being a retired teacher and coach I know that it is tough sometimes but hang in there and keep building and guiding your players in the right direction.

  15. I am now hearing that Silver Grove is set to hire B.J. Aldridge as the head coach and Corey Pelle as the top assistant. This sounds like an interesting hire, I am interested to see what happens next. Does anyone have more info on this Aldridge fellow?
