Whoa! Well best of luck to Lewis and hope he enjoys some time away.... one of the Top 25 jobs in KY just freed up. As for Lewis I am sure he will have plenty of people wanting him to return to the game and coach their program.

Nailed it Typically the only camps that get much stock put in them are Nike, Rivals, Under Armour, Army All-American, and NUC. NUC is a step below the others but still pretty reputable...but outside of those the odds are strong that it is nothing more than a money grab with very little chance of true collegiate exposure. FBU is good for younger kids not yet in High School. A good rule of thumb, as funny as it may be, is anything that...

Just saw where Birchfield and Hensley both were selected to compete in the NUC All-American Game Really nice honor! NUC isn't as prestigious as the Army All-American Underclassmen Combine, but it is pretty prestigious nonetheless. Great honor for these two Soph's to be selected.

Quality Schedule. I don't see any high end teams that you look and say "WOW! Boyle is going to be in trouble", but as mentioned there isn't a cakewalk in the lot. Ten teams who you have to show up and play and a handful of which that can beat you even when you bring it.

I want to pick fault at the schedule but I can't. If it were Male or Trinity playing that schedule, or another 6A powerhouse, it might be worth questioning. But this seems par for the course for how BG schedules and it has boded well to challenge themselves with a couple really hard games, three or four "solid but not great" teams that they are favored in and have to work but usually they win going away, and the rest games against weaker...

I am not sure about that.. Glasgow is a quality program but it's also a program with 0 State Titles. This is still a 5A school with a 5A population base. Not an easy job at all.. rural counties never are and Glasgow DOES hurt... Yet I would probably put these schools as being much tougher gigs right off the top of my head: Jenkins- Tiny District, low funding, much nicer county schools nearby with impeccable facilities Phelps-...

I think Boyle takes a significant step forward in 2017. They should be stout at the L.O.S. and have some high quality play makers littered across the roster. Reese Smith is a special talent and will be one of the top players in Class 3A this year as a Sophomore. To me the big key to Boyle's fortunes is how they protect the football and how well they tackle especially in the 2nd level. Last year it seemed those two things worked in...

KCD is going to be very solid... they have a lot to look forward to.. ...but this is going to be a Mike Yeagle era type of Beechwood team in 2017.

I would list Johnson Central as a significant favorite in 4A to open the season with the talent they return alongside the margin of which they dominated the class in 2016. Wayne County will be stout, I think you see Mercer County get better, John Hardin should be a little stronger. Franklin-Simpson was hit hard by graduation, South Warren is gone to 5A, and truth be told I really don't see any other 4A teams who can play at the level of...

That is the worst batch yet! With that said, that Fairview helmet is sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet I like the Fulton County color scheme... Wish they did baby blue facemasks though to match the jersey or at the very least white. Glasgow is the big loser of the group. It's one thing to steal the Tiger Paw when you are the Tigers or another variation of Cat... but when you are a dog...especially a creative dog such as The Scotties... I expect a...

It's a non-issue now it seems, but LED Sports Lighting is the future. My company just did all the lighting for the Braves' SunTrust Park including the LED sports lighters. It would blow your mind how awesome those are. Little to no glare whatsoever, no start-up or cool down time in case of blackout (on that subject they stay so cool anyway blackout is highly unlikely), and obviously energy savings as well. The price point to go LED...

Yup... from what I hear the staff is really high on him and he was one of those "first in" guys last year when Belfry clearly had the opponent out-manned or up big. I think you see Isaiah start playing meaningful minutes in the secondary this season. He is not a very big kid but he absolutely brings the wood on Defense. He reminds me of Curtis Childress that played around 99-01. That class also has the last of the Bentley brothers in Ben....

That is a very interesting question and a question that the Belfry "pundits" all seem to be curious about. Belfry has a superstar in the making in Sophomore Peyton Hensley. Hensley as a Freshman ran for 444 yards on 49 carries and added 5 TD's mainly in either varsity action against over matched foes or reserve action with a reserve line. Haywood used him as a FB last year and this kid is special. He's not the same mold though as Austin...

I remember they were also very strong back in the 80s and late 70's. Seems like a correlation with the "Second Cold War" era. Fort Knox also had some success too... may not be any correlation at all..but would be interesting to see.

This isn't meant to be political in any way, shape, or form. As a stats nerd I would be very interested to see how Fort Campbell's success has trended depending on the political party in control of the White House or in Congress. I wonder if there is a correlation? Obviously the more funding and more active the military is the more active the base will be.

Just my personal opinion here but I kind of think Floyd Central fumbled an opportunity for greatness. Pburg is historically down and has a lot of bickering over Coach Derossett and his future. Allen Central actually seeemd to be on an up-tick. Betsy Layne is not a very strong program and the school that has benefited the most from the Pburg issues has been Pikeville. With a new school, new facilities, a little bit of success coming in from...

I think you make solid critiques but the bolded I can't sign off on. I can not point blame at Hager for what happened at Sheldon Clark whatsoever. No County in Kentucky was decimated by the coal industry like Martin County. In addition, the previous Superintendent was shameful. Remember this is the same guy who fired Hager (and then had to rehire him) after Hager complained about raw sewage seeping in their locker room. Sheldon Clark High...

I like them third in their District this year behind a veteran Fleming County and an always solid Russell. I am going to say 7-3 regular season... Their First Round playoff game should be winnable as I don't expect Pike Central or Lawrence County to be at their very best.

I agree... but I also expect them to be nowhere near the level to be labeled as a contender in the East. Before Hilton was hired Bell County was closer to Casey County and Pike Central than they were Russell.... let alone Corbin and Belfry. I think you see foundation getting laid this year but I do not expect Bell to hang within 4 TD's of Corbin in their region. Here is their schedule: Aug 18, 17 Middlesboro Aug 25, 17 Letcher...

Long story short... 2017 for Belfry comes down to this: - Belfry has Championship Talent at the skill spots and the back 2/3 of their Defense. - Belfry has the individual game changers you want in Wellman, Varney, and Hunter. - On paper the only real threat that should be able to match-up from a talent and depth standpoint in the East is Corbin, otherwise I see Belfry being 3-4 TD's better than anyone else in their Semi-State outside of...

What does Belfry need to do to improve in 2017? Honestly I don't think they can. The past two Belfry teams were perhaps the two strongest teams to ever come out of EKY and took Belfry to new heights. Belfry ruled 3A with an iron fist and outscored their playoff foes effectively 5:1 over the past two seasons. Belfry... as in enrollment under 700 in rural Pike County, KY..just had five players sign to play Division 1 football, three of...

    1. Will Coach Weinrich right the ship in Fort Thomas? If you follow Kentucky High School Football whatsoever you would be lying if you didn't notice that Highlands hasn't exactly been vintage form since Dale Mueller retired. Apologists and detractors can point to numerous reasons or excuses, but the fact remains that 2017 will be the pivotal year for us to see if Highlands will return to form or be asked to make a change at the helm. ...
